Great review. I’ve owned my 118i in Australia for about 18 months now. It’s my 3rd BMW but first one I’ve owned from new. Love all the technology. Especially the wireless apple carplay. It’s great not to have to have to think about plugging in all the time. Just keep my phone in my handbag 😊 Mine has the head up display which is brilliant! Thanks again for the review.

The HK system glitch was a bummer to hear... I really love my music and that gives me a bad user experience. Fingers crossed for when mine comes in July.
If you have a 1 series on order, you should be fine. They fixed the problem with the unit awhile back. I’m still waiting for a replacement part 😔

BMW in snow, especially on summer tyres, are renowned for bad driving.I remember a tweet from a police officer who encountered a struggling mercedes in snow conditions saying “well they can’t all be BMWs”.
Regarding adaptive cruise control, really go test drive that option before you get it. The behavior of the car varies between brands. My 2019 Mazda behaved like a jerk when adaptive cc is on and I can’t switch the adaptive part off to set it to standard cc. I know mazda has that option now.
Last week i drove with a friend in his Hyundai ionic and the adaptive cc proved to be a much better driver. Less abrupt breaking an better control of throttle.
Yeah my previous car in the US (Acura TLX) had adaptive cruise and it was pretty good. Sometimes jerky. I just miss being able to set it in stop and go traffic and not do anything.
Great review!! Ordered in November 2021 and was told an April 2022 delivery but the build date itself has now been pushed back to June (with possible further disruption) so I’m looking at a minimum overall wait of 9 months

@@Kerleem thanks for your answear. I live in germany, ca. a 3h trip away from Amsterdam. I think i dont have too many questions because i am BMW driver for the Last 10 years - but i am definitely not a huge fanboy. At the moment i drive a 5 series G31 myself and i bought the 118i for my wife. I‘m sure she will have a lot of questions 😄 i really like your car because of all the tech stuff and the comfortable ride which you dont get in the m model, imho.
2 months wait was quite short. I had to wait 3 months: 2 months for car being produced and 1 month for delivery. Have the same black (Schwarz 2) and it's known as being one of the hardest paint to maintain. Unfortunately HK audio is not punchy anymore. It used to be in older generations but not in actual ones.
Next time you could check out BMW's "business pack" offerings. Normally not accessible for private ownership, but with some cooperation from the dealership you can order those. And those packs are loaded, since they are increasing the resell value of the car at the end of the lease. And other car manufacturers like Audi, Mercedes, etc. have similar pack offerings. And believe me, the competition in the business automotive segment is huge.
Yeah I’ve seen the “business edition” trims and they are nicely equipped! They didn’t have it for mine at the time.

Haven’t thought about my next car yet but I would love a wagon. I really like BMW and think a 3 series wagon would be great. Even better would be the upcoming M3 wagon but that’s way out of my reach 🤣

Nice presentation :) I have 118i too but without sunroof - after your film I wish I had it in my car..it looks very nice. My only problem with the car is long oil interval - first service after 34000 km. In my opinion oil change should be after max 25000 km. I have 30000km done.
YES! I was very surprised how long the oil interval is. Mine is saying 24000 km, which seems quite long to me.
If you are a low milage driver it is changed on it's two year service , because of covid and working from home our car only had 7k miles after two years but the oil was changed .
Can you not opt to have it changed once a year? At least with VAG cars you can. Where I live it's unrealistic to change oil every two years because of the harsh winters.

Can you describe the tire/road noise level? Can you compare it with your old cars via naming them as well?
Hard to describe because it also depends on the road surface conditions. My previous car in the us was an Acura TLX and that had All-season (similar to 4 season) tires which were a bit noisier. But again the road surfaces were different
the software update for subwoofer just lowers the max volume its able to put out so the amp can keep up, but a manufacturing variance means the one-for-all setting for it isnt enough. Basically the software for it doesnt match the hardware variance. This is either a bad quality control, that your unit was passed as QC approved even though its clearly outside the specs of even a patch they introduced for it, or it could have been solved by better software able to adapt to eah unit. Either way, someone didnt care enough.
Yeah I noticed the bass was set lower when I got it back. So I turned it back up 🤣

The HK Amp problem is fixed by a new amp there was a batch that were faulty. I had mine replaced under warranty!
I got mine on April. I like sunroofs but people convinced me against getting one for my car, because of possible future water leaks. How is your experience so far? I guess i should have gotten one, right?
No issues with leaks so far. I think that's quite an 'old school' way of thinking for sunroofs. They have gotten much more advanced over the past years and I've never heard of leaks in modern new cars. Now, in probably 5-10 years, it may start leaking, not sure about the long term. But it won't be my problem then.

How has your fuel economy (mpg) worked out?
It was petrol. I don’t have the car anymore so I can’t recall exactly but the fuel economy was quite good
Nice vid, was going to ask how much does a full tank cost for the bmw 118i and how much mileage does a full tank give you? Ofc I know it depends on the driving of the car but in general driving how much mileage does it gives roughly on a full tank?
Fuel is roughly €1.90/litre right now so it costs about €70-80 for a full tank. I usually fill up at half tank so I’m not sure the exact cost.
The estimated range is around 600km but that varies. I also have the “larger” fuel tank option in mine so it can be different for a base model 1 series
Full tank 40 litres/ 350 miles
On long trips that are relatively flat, I could drive 800km on eco mode, at 130km/h. It can be quite economical and nippy if you want

I've just bought a 118i in white 2020 model M sport and mine came with heated seats and electric folding mirrors as standard but the panoramic sunroof was an extra

Had a 118d msport e81 which I traded for this new f40 118i msport what a great error, the older one already had 12yo but was perfect for me, smaller it fitted like a glove, a smooth manual gear shift in perfect synchronization with my brain, while the new automatic you have to wait for its own brain do decide to change gears, a fraction of a second but it removes alot from the driving pleasure. Was rear wheel drive which makes a difference in the easiness of operating the steering wheel, but the new fwd steering is good and neutral they did a good job disguising understeer. In the end I traded a car I loved for something newer and gained absolutely nothing except a few better soft plastics and lighting in the cabin and prettier styling which in the end is completely irrelevant to me I preferred a bit of aluminum trim rather than colored lights in the interior like the old one had, everything silver is plastic now even in the steering wheel, the car feels lighter, the doors feel much lighter, the old one felt heavier and sturdier, and you hear the road more in the highway now. I miss my Droopy which was the name I gave it because of the way it looked, not pretty but wonderful to drive and reliable.

When was had a 1 series (2019, previous gen though) the paint was very thin and low quality. We bought it at 7 months old and it had a lot of stone chips all over the bumper already. Good car though

I don't have the car anymore, but I didn't have a rattling sound at low revs. keep in mind, if you have an automatic, it's a dual clutch transmission which has an automated clutch. Sometimes it can be jerky when getting going from a start

you are smart to lease it, I assume the repairs are done by the company not you. That 3-cylinder engine wont last 100k kilometers without large-bill repairs.

No F40 is a compromise when sharing a platform with mini. It does Not drive as good a bmw should. The front wheel bias is noticeable, especially winter time on proper winter roads packed ice. Very unsettle experience. Thumbs Down
