Uncut Gem is a good fragrance, but it feels like it gets lost among other similar creations that do this scent profile better than this does. I love the house of Frederic Malle, it is one of my favorite houses, and Uncut Gem is a good release overall. Congrats on 4k Ram!

Rambo is on a tear, baby! Great review as always! By the way I felt bad that I actually enjoyed that fragrance because of the obvious. To me it felt like there was a prominent green note which I found pleasant smelling.🔥🔥🔥

The reviews in this are all over the place. I’ve seen so many claiming this is deep and a winter scent but like you I see this as very sharp and fresh and almost exclusively a hot summer scent. So there are obviously darker facets that certain people pick on more

Very gd analysis Ram. I tried this last year. I remember really enjoying the opening but the dry down was very boring.
My thoughts exactly... if i could spray it on every hour like a cologne it wouldnt be bad 😆

Hey Rams,never having sniffed this one, and unless It comes as a freebie sample in a further purchase, I guess I never will 😢,but it sounds like I wouldn’t hate it ,probably kinda like it as a easy wear and not piss anyone off at work kinda thing ,that said at the price I have cheaper people pleasers to do that job . I’ve liked lots of Prin Lomros stuff, mostly from his other two lines. Ma Nishtana is top five of all time for me.
Agreed about the hassle of selling fragrances. It’s never the day to sit down and do it.

from what I saw on Fragrantica apparently there were some comparisons with Uncut Gem and the now discontinued Tom Ford for Man, any thoughts?

Absolutely no comparisons there mate... as far as musc ravageur goes the new stuff does perform but its way to sweet for my tastes personally
I'd love to see a comparism between vintage anateus and the modern formulation

I will agree to an extent with your impression, even though it's kinda rehashing a lot what's already been said and/or conjured about how/why/what this fragrance is/isn't. Buuuut you're saying you would rather wear Aventus showing us a 120ml bottle probably pre 2016 batch - I get that, the question for the average consumer would be pay retail for a new 100ml Aventus or get the 100ml Uncut Gem. I have the 10ml of Uncut to try it out and have been liking it as a "do-what-it's-supposed-to" type scent, but if I spray it on clothing the Ambrocenide almost makes me wanna hurl. This scent get's a lot of unwarranted hate because it's a Frederic Malle, and Malle is a subsection of fragcoms little baby. It's a good fragrance, personally I don't consider it a redundant release after having worn it a couple of times, there's nothing really like this on the market. It's a bit 90s, it's a bit green, it's a bit tart, it's a bit hairy-chest-musky, it's a bit sparkly. Anyway! Great content as always Ram, I had to ramble a bit too! Have a good one!

Hear me out this is the exact same DNA of Dior Homme 2020 and released it as Uncut Gems,
However after further self research the earliest perfume released with this DNA was by Tom Ford called "Tom Ford By Men" in 2007 imo, which truly is a reminder how visionary the perfumes of Tom Ford actually are, and also Costume National made something very similar in 2009 as "Costume National Homme".
I own Tom Ford for Men from 2007 and I dont find it similar to uncut gem but the style of the fragrance is similar if that makes sense... I would wear the OG Tom Ford for Men over Uncut Gem any day... just one 🐏 opinion 🙂

The citrus going to a woody synthetic musk base really reminded of something like Light Blue Intense(Alberto Tortillas), which i felt quite bad about 😆 because Roucel is after all a master of the modern musk! And i also dont believe Roucel wore something like this 😀
I only got ginger, citrus, bit of vetiver and woody musk. I wish it was more complex😑
Yeah apparently the rumor is many houses tried to buy this special cologne formula off of him before ... but who knows what is true and what is marketing now a days 🤷🏻♂️

To say any fragrance is useless to the community as a whole is silly. People have different preferences. It’s like if I said all fougeres smell exactly the same and there’s no need for there to be more than one or two and there should be more produced.
I also think it’s a bit of a disservice to do a full review of any fragrance from 1ml and not full wearings. I do appreciate you not bashing this like you said most of the community has done.

@@RamseytheRam I’ve just watched it and 100% agree with you as usual. They played the modern designer trick, putting all the work (and the raw materials) in the opening, which is extremely catchy and masterfully executed, while the whole composition falls apart in the drydown. Frankincense, labdanum, leather and vetiver are just faint traces lost in an ultra linear white musks and Ambrocenide overdose (they even “unapologetically” state it in the blurb). I have no problems with synthetics when they’re used to support other stuff, but there’s nothing left to support here (it’s just a drone, you totally nailed it). The marketing didn’t help at all. All those 50s references, Marlon Brando, leather jackets, motorcycles, everyone was expecting it to be a modernized old school masculine, which is very far from reality. Maybe Roucel got that theme right with the new Thameen (at least according to Persolaise), but not with this one
That image of a smoking frenchman in the lab mixing flammable compounds had me giggling! 😆 Definitely agree that a lot of the disappointment with this one came from expectation. And you know how much I LOVE woody ambers. 😂 The industry: get on the bandwagon! Me: Get your torches and pitchforks. 🔥👨🌾 Someone's in need of a serious ass-forkin'.
FM did a better job with the desert 💎 collection than uncut 💎 when it comes to amber woods imho

There should be an unwritten rule that reviewers should wear fragrances they review for a month beforehand. I’m skeptical of any reviews that rely on one or two wearings.
pretty ridiculous expectation for an expert/seasoned enthusiast. it’s not that difficult to critique and know if you like something or not.
I would agree with you for a full review... but I am calling this an early impression ... thats literally what it is, just my initial thoughts. If I end with a full bottle I can circle back and do a full review...but TBH I dont know how much my thoughts will change as this one as it is very simple
