How To Varnish A Large Acrylic Painting - 2

Follow along as I varnish a 48 x 48 acrylic painting of David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust. I'm using Liquitex Satin Varnish and a car washing sponge.

You can go back and put a different gloss over it and you should be fine.

Great painting Roy! Did you apply an isolation coat before varnishing?

Hey Roy . Good art , good tutorial --and definitely a good subject . I just thought I'd mention tho , that Your painting is of David Bowie as Aladdin Sane ---not Ziggy Stardust . It's a common Bowie mistake . Thought You may want to know . Cheers .

So, how come your varnish is not drying on you when you are applying it like that or get any cloudiness. Is that because your sponge is damp?

can i do this with a canvas with modeling paste on it? im worried itll clash with the gold leaf/ modeling paste

I asked a friend who uses gold leaf a lot and she says she doesn't varnish hers
