Matt thank you for sharing this information! I am so sorry your wife was injured but I thank God she is ok. God bless you and your family! Your painting is absolutely beautiful!
Hi Matt! :) Your paintings are beautiful, the realistic skin tones are an appreciated touch. Also, the purples and blues in the folds of the headcovers are so smooth & subtle, yet somehow vibrant. You got this blending with ACRYLIC?! I could only dream! Hopefully once I subscribe your talent will rub off on me haha
Thank you so much Mary! 😀 The glazing technique makes it possible to blend with acrylic, because I use a lot of translucent layers that incrementally shift the value and color. You’ll find a LOT of instruction on how to do it here in my channel…and more to come! God bless you and your art.
TImely tutorial on glazing, Matt. I am working on this large 36 x 60 painting and I am nervous about the varnishing of it. Thank you for your guidance and sharing.
I'm not sure. I really don't have a lot of experience with oils. The brushing technique is probably similar. But the kind of varnish you use would be different.
just to be clear, the varnish you are using is a medium like matte medium, right? I was confused since it looks like matte medium and applies the same way.
Fantastic job! I'm curious if varnishing can be done with mixed media. For example, if I use pastels with my acrylic will the varnish destroy or remove the pastel.
I wouldn’t recommend that. I used to sketch with pastel pencil and when I tried to seal in the sketch with acrylic medium it just about removed everything and smeared the rest! I would use a spray varnish instead for purely pastel work. For mixed media where you don’t plan to add any more paint, a spray varnish would work as well.

Happy to help, Emily!
Hope you're doing well! Got to admit every time I varnish a painting it scares me just a little lol. Glad you made the video!
Thank you, Matt! Do you package this big painting any different than your smaller ones?
Yes, I use a lot more packaging--cushioning material for one this size! I recorded the process and I hope to post a video of it soon.
Have you ever tried Gamvar? It can be used on oil and acrylic and it is removable.
Haven’t tried it. I like keeping everything acrylic.
Great info, thanks!
Is oil the same technique?

Matt used Matt Varnish (acrylic).
@@lindacampbell5226 Exactly. Unlike matt medium which dries flat, this varnish dries to a satin finish.

Thank you so much! I do use a spray varnish but it doesn't have a similar effect. Thank you immensely for your prompt reply and advice.😊
What is the gsm of your sheets?
I’m not sure what you mean by that? The weight of the canvas?
Means, what is the thickness of the your sheets?t@@fineartbymattphilleo
