Man, Jake E. Lee tends to get overlooked between Randy and Zakk...but man he was entertaining. Definitely a solid rhythm guy.

Not to knock Randy or Zakk, but in Jake’s prime he was certainly a better player in a technical sense by almost every conceivable metric. And this isn’t really a close call I promise haha.
On a compositional front Randy was certainly more skilled than either and one could Probably make the case that Zakk was a better writer. But Zakk had a lot more help. Zakk had Bob and Geezer coming back into the fold here and there... even some Lemmy collab and like way more producers in the pot.
Jake got fuckin screwed. He and Bob pretty much entirely wrote BATM while Ozzman was fucked out of his mind still grieving over Randy. I know Bob was helping for decent amounts of Ultimate Sin originally. But he got canned for a bit there. There was also a revolving door of drummers and Ozzy was even more fucked up than he was during the previous record haha. So it’s kinda a miracle he managed to make Ultimate Sin as killer as it is. It’s a shame it never got the same kind of rerelease attention like the others did.
Meanwhile, Randy had an Ozzy on his absolute A game, Bob writing bass and lyrics amazingly and just a totally solid band alllll around. Not to detract from his brilliance in Any way whatsoever. But he did have super ideal conditions.
These days however Zakk is actually a lot more or a monster than he used to be though for sure. He certainly could knock the shit out of Lee these days cause Zakk is probably better now than he’s ever been. But current Zakk vs. former Lee... 😳 That’s a tough call. I’d go with Lee just cause I like his style a lot more, but Zakk is totally a beast for sure.
Not that Anyone asked for this analysis 😂. I’m just nerding out. But I have Heard that Jake was in part fired because people were starting to wear Jake shirts more than Ozzy shirts and because of Ozzy’s drug dependence at the time he was getting an uncomfortable amount of creative control. I think they were really indebted to him and knew it. If they kept him it would have probably become more of a partnership and I don’t think Sharon was diggin that notion from a financial perspective.
It’s also worth noting Jake was only paid in advance for BATM and had to sign away his royalties up front. Of course that shit later got Huge. So he wised up for the second go around and that went double platinum too. But somethin Real fucked up is the 2003 remaster of BATM has a Multitude of Jake E Lee licks actually removed from the songs entirely and he is generally mixed lower too. Super fucked up. I can only speculate why it happened but the original recording is Vastly superior in every way.
And then they never did anything for Ultimate Sin and it’s been out of print for fucking ever. It’s like they wanted to pretend it didn’t happen. Weird shit.

I think it's one of the rare times I can understand (without subtitles) what he says (English is not my mother language). It would have been so nice to have more of "this Ozzy" over the years.

Yes The ultimate sin was my first Ozzy album, actually Tape. Loved it been a fan since I just always wished he would record with Jake E Lee again. but he never did.

Interesting to hear Ozzy say that he talks to Bill Ward even less.....Bill Ward was listed in the "special thanks" section of "The Ultimate Sin" CD Booklet and I always had the impression that they were super close

its funny how he is saying sabbath wouldnt reform cuz people want to remmber sabbath... butg the TRUTH is that at this time in the 80's and 90's , he didnt NEED to do that. his career was going great .......fast forward to 2010... ozzy aint selling records like he used to and other bands have reformed....now ALL OF A SUDDEN ... voila !!!
