FAQ:
0. WHY REVERTS DON'T SLOW YOU DOWN
TLDR - they do, i just ollie/boneless out before the speed penalty really hits
reverts in thps1+2 are really bad. they have permament speed penalty system, which means that every revert you make adds a speed penalty for the next revert in the same combo. these penalties stack up to 5 or 6 and then you hit the maximum speed penalty which, in theory, should always enitrely stop you. the penalties never go away, unless you end your combo (that's why i called it 'permament'). if you watched the video, then its needless to say that this maximum speed penalty just doesn't work.
this video is kind of a proof of concept that (as of now) reverts can be very easily exploited - all you need to do is to ollie/boneless right after a revert, before the speed penalty impacts you. given that i revert only after huge dropdown on this line, i always have a lot of speed after ollieing out. i really would want to say that its harder than it looks but honestly - its not.
dont get me wrong here - i think that speed penalty on reverts is an absolute must, but imo in this game its done in a really bad way. even if we assumed that the maximum speed penalty always stops you, and theres no way to ollie out of it to keep your speed, then >permament< speed penalty is just a bad concept on its own. it doesn't make gameplay any more interesting, but only limits player's movement - regardless if going for high scores, graffiti tags or just improving. imagine if you could only do 6 wallrides or wallplants in your combo and then they would become pretty much useless. sounds dumb, but this is exactly how i feel about reverts in this game.
for reference,
reverts in thug, thug2 and thaw had a very similiar system of speed penalty but with two major differences. speed penalty was not permament and would go away after 20 seconds per revert. if you made another revert in these 20 seconds, then the timer would bump by another 20 seconds and your speed penalty would also grow. second difference is that the maximum speed penalty actually worked. you would always get 100% speed penalty if you reverted too many times in short amount of time (that would be around 5 or 6 in these 20 seconds) and ollieing out just didnt help. this way the game would punish you if you tried to exploit reverts, but didn't limit your movement long term.

2. how do i wallride high?
hold ollie so you get more speed, start a wallride and jump off as quick as you can - this way you will get much higher into the air compared to if you jumped off after like 1 second. if you do a wallieplant (up up jump) instead of just jumping off you will get even more height. these are the key factors, although angle that you approach your wallrides matter too.

@@xxCRzz im sure that VV wants to listen to people's opinions on this game and they value our feedback. revert change seems unlikely as it probably doesnt bother 90% of the playerbase, but its my biggest problem with high scoring in thps1+2.

you can maintain your combo even if you stopped entirely by doing a manual a bit after youve already landed on the ground. its not that easy and its nowhere as good as spacewalk but it can save your combo sometimes
@@prevzzy the problem is the longer you Manuel and grind, the more sensitive your balance meter gets
Starting to get into PC gaming, i can see why people would excel at a single game. But i still got my ps2 collection, and even then i still havent 100% my childhood favorites, whether its memory card corruptions or whatever. most of that got rectified with a generation 1 ps3, but man, thats an insane combo.
Unbelievably based keyboard user. I've been using KB to play THPS since '04 and rarely do I ever see anyone use anything besides a gamepad. People think it's weird but I think it's one of the most comfortable ways to play.

@@gotseoul123 hey, tLT and eX are still very active to this day on THUG Pro. eX even released a team video a month ago to celebrate their 20th anniversary (ex Team - "eX 20"). I joined SiN during 1+2 era but some of the og guys also play from time to time. I pretty much only upload high score videos, but you can check out THPSVideos channel to see how improv gameplay and videos looks like nowadays. I'm sure you will recognize some names.

I was just about to bring up the revert penalty since it looked like it reset, but then I read your FAQ. Thanks for posting it, very informative.
I agree that a global revert limit sucks. Seems odd that all other mechanics and limits work with reasonable limitations except this. Wonder if it's just something carried over when some of the code was ported over or if it was intentionally enforced. Hopefully we can get somebody from VV with game mechanic knowledge (like andyTHPS) to comment on the matter.
'reasonable limitations' is such a key thing in this
literally every movement mechanic in this game has a REASONABLE limitations except for reverts - manual/lip/grind balance gets harder to hold the more time you spend on it (and a few other reasonable balance penalty things too), wallplants have a cooldown so you cant wallplant from wall to wall that are 1 meter away from each other, wallrides have a cooldown and you cant wallride if youre going too slow. all of these make gameplay more challenging but are not making any of these moves useless in any way.

i would say i am pretty good at these games. played them a ton when the originals launched, and sunk so many hours into the remasters. then just this week i got back into it. today for the first time i decided to check some high score runs and realized i am not pretty good at these games.

I never understood how combos work in this game. Most i ever got was like 100,000, on accident button mashing lol, but this is still impressive for me to see even though i dont understand whats going on.
Why aren’t your manual and grind balance meters going haywire? If I combo that long they skip form side to side in split second with loads of momentum.
Probably because he doesnt have the grinds go on for too long you can notice most of the grinds are either slight rail kisses.
Kevlared I watched his FAQ video, I’ve realised that grinding the same rail twice in a row has a massive penalty, so you need to constantly switch from grind to manual, to grind, to manual, to grind etc. The game should tell you this!
Its important to know i think he has all stats points but its just git gud. Got this game yesterday and its a little frustating to keep the flow have the right timing and dont do grinding or manual for to long but this is pretty hard but i thinl with time i will git gut just like in thps3 and thaw
