  • In this 24th episode, we are finishing the high ceiling in the grain bin. We have already framed it in episode 23, and now we are insulating it, wiring it for can lights, cutting out and installing corrugated metal panels, cutting and breaking our own metal ribs, and installing finish trim for ceiling. I am so glad to finally have this part of the project completed! Grain Bin Home, Grain Bin House, Silo House, Grain Bin Conversion, Grain Bin Remodel, Tiny House.

    Wow, impressive skills. Sincerely I hope that you intend on posting more as you complete this project to it's final end and ready for furniture move in. Your attention to detail is most impressive.

    There’s something satisfying about a project like this. I was gifted a property in my town that was boarded up that was in a fire, just a lost cause house. My dad and I spent an entire year remodeling it, carpentry is what we do. Everything turned out great and people can’t believe that we made this old junker modern. Currently looking for a farm place and might make a bin house like this. It’s interesting that when I found your build I was thinking “this guy is making this exactly how I would.” You have to have the mind and eye for this kind of work and you have it my friend. Keep it up! Looks awesome!

    Love this project!! Thanks for sharing detailed progress videos. I guess you're almost done construction and editing now. Thanks for details on doors and windows. Let's hope the caulk and tape keep the water out in the long term. No vapor barrier? I'm not an engineer but the 1.5inch thick laminated center hub looks a little underengineered although I guess its not structural. However top plate holding up the beams for the loft - that looks a bit sketchy. The entire weight of the loft is on the top plate - not directly over the studs. Not sure if you glued the 2 curved top plates. Some of the floor beams might be near the top plate join so only 3/4 inch holding up the beam! 🙀 I would have been tempted to make the top plate a lot thicker. Still a great project and love some many aspects of this project.. well done. Lucky Grandparents!

      Our anticipated completion... Ready to move in.. Is sometime in May. We will have the front porch still yet to build then, and all exterior landscaping... But otherwise completed.

    I want to build a silo house like that too but I live in west Texas and there ain't any silos for sale around here for a good price , and I'm not ready for that financially

    First thing I want to say is thank you for doing these videos. They are amazing and so helpful as I am going through the same build process. Regarding the insulation, will these grain bins not condensate and create any mold issues with regular insulation? I had a few estimates to spray foam mine and the cheapest so far is $7k so I would love to just do fiberglass batts but had this concern. Thanks for any advice

      Honestly... If in your budget.. Spray foam the whole thing. I had to compromise due to my budget... I hope i dont regret it. For condensation to occur.. It would require an opening or leak in the wall and insulation... For moisture to penetrate and flash on metal. So technically batt insulation should work... But you must get it tight.

      This is why i spray foamed all trouble or tight areas... And batt insulated wide open areas to the spray foamed areas..

    Thanks so much for these videos! Any chance you're willing to outline the costs of the projects? I'm planning on doing the same thing. I'm in Canada but would like to get a rough idea of what I'll need to budget.

      I have been asked to do a final cost breakdown video once project is completed... And i may do that. There are really alot of variables to consider though for each individual project and the area you are in... So my project may not directly correlate to everyones. Grain bin was existing for me, so i didnt have any cost for buying or disassembling, erecting and foundation costs.. And i put an addition on to mine.. Etc.

    Why you spray foam then insulated with batting over top ? Moisture thing ?

    • @blueroomoutdoormedia5630
      @blueroomoutdoormedia5630  วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Itdontmatter69 costs dictated... in a perfect world spray foam entire thing. I chose to partially spray foam all trouble areas.. like transitions and around openings.. then batt the rest.

    Can you give me an approximate cost of the corrugated metal panels and where you purchased them? I am FINALLY getting closer to getting our 18' grain bin on our farm moved down to turn into a she shed and really like the looks of the corrugated metal. Thanks!

      I purchased the corrugated metal panels at Lowes. Menards also sells them. They were aprox. $ 25 per panel. I also purchased rolls of galvanized sheet metal to cut and bend into the parting ribs.
