    Happiness doesn't have a monetary value. If ya'll are happy with the grain bin house, it doesn't matter how much it costs. I think it's a boss idea! Looking forward to seeing it evolve. 😅 Love ya'll ❤️ P.S. Thanks for mentioning Jerod

      @justthink5854 I would've started with a houseboat myself, but they aren't me, or you. It'll be different, and challenging, but that's what youth and creativity are for. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄

      @justthink5854 Some of us think outside the box. Storage containers, sheds, airplanes, houseboats, grain bins etc.. Taking your idea is conventional, I have an octagonal tiny house. A houseboat. A shed conversion. I like their idea. Your criticism of others is noted, but don't belittle ppl for being different. Happy New Year as well.

    Hey guys what you heard about putting boards together to make your 6x6 beams is correct nailing 2x6 boards together is stronger than a 6x6 because the grain in each board is independent of the other 2 so where one might be weak the other 2 will strengthen it,whereas a solid beam shares the same grain so if there’s a weak spot it runs the same a crossed the whole board, I have been in construction 40+ years and in my experience you did the superior thing by doing it like you did!

    The expense hasn’t ended yet.. put a subtotal on that list.. cause depending on what or how too. If u make the inside 2-3 stories, or just do the first floor, and wait until the other later as you go. The echo sound inside will need addressing too. And so building continues.. lots of good luck..

    Your deck is beautiful. The energy flow within a circular home is healthier than a square or rectangular build with so many blocking walls. Am excited to see what you will create in this space. TY for sharing your building journey. Happy Holidays and Best Wishes from San Antonio, TX.

    @BStein434 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The two foot square footings are great, I did not do any load calculations , however the supporting concrete should be below the frost line in your area. In other words your concrete columns are wrong side up. What will happen is the upper ground will freeze and pull the round portion up the amount of the frost heave. The preferred method is to build your box below the frost line and add a cardboard tube to extend it to your soil line or above. From what you have now after the first few winters check for level with the laser and adjust any low beams by shimming above the columns. You may find that the freezing may be stronger on the perimeter than the inside portion. From experience in Alaska where the frost level can be 8 feet down, the important thing is to have the square footage to support and let the structure "float" with the frost heave. Keep an eye on the foundation and adjust as necessary. Nice to see an ambitious couple.

    I understand the concept of the deck to raise it off the ground and give room for plumbing, but what happens 15 years from now when the deck weakens and the wood begins to rot? It will fall through. I think that a solid concrete pad for the building to sit on with a deck built around it would last longer. Just my opinion.

    Thanks for sharing that. I would have guessed the deck would be more given the lumber price circus we've had the last 3 years. Can't wait to see what you use for sealing up the deck floor and insulating the interior floor. Most of the construction I've seen has a basement or slab and the raised deck foundation only used for summer houses that are not used in winter. What might be cool is to have a semi-circle "birds nest" loft up in the peak above the second floor with a ski light. Ski lights have been leaking challenges, but these days there may be better sealants available.

    I just have to say it's cool of you guys to answer these questions. I personally have never asked because I think that's a personally thing and no ones business. I enjoy watching you guys but it always amazes me the people who are broken records with all the questions. You'll show the process as you get there. I truly think some of these people have nothing going on in their own lives and get way to wrapped up in creator's lives. I totally get those who are curious because they want to do something like that but they aren't the one's hounding you for answers. I'm excited for the build and getting to see it when it's finished. Really looking forward to you guys building your home. I built mine in 2008. Three tiny buildings, one for me, one for my son and the other the kitchen. All hooked together with surround decks. When I built them it cost me $25,000 for all three. Another $10,000 to finish out the insides. There is nothing more rewarding than building your own home and creating it your way. Everything is looking great and I am subscribed to your brother's channel and enjoy watching him with his home build. Oh, Happy Holidays you guys.

    Thank you I enjoyed the price break down and how you saved money by just a bit of forethought on both your parts. Once you have drawn your ideas on paper for you two floors, I suggest you get an architect to draw good structural plans to follow for your interior, those plans than can be sold to other people who follow your Idea or have it posted on your videos so people can see it, of living in a grain silo.

    • @RMMomma4Eva
      @RMMomma4Eva 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @justthink5854 They are going to spray foam the silo for insulation. And I think this was moreso a cool mode of doing something different for housing rather than just needing a house and being practical. They actually already own a traditional house, this is them doing something different and being innovative. They're not the first, there's lots of silos repurposed into houses around, you can find tours here on TH-cam. So honestly it's not gonna be that hard for them to build this out and get it quite spiffy as well. It is going to be stunning in the end.

    • @RMMomma4Eva
      @RMMomma4Eva 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @justthink5854 I actually like the silo idea and would love to do one. There are some awesome build outs that I've seen. So I think they're doing this because they want to and they want to embrace the challenge. But mostly to live the dream of a silo home. If you know you know, what it's like to be "weird" to think like they do and want to go against the grain to do something that different. If and when they get tired of living in it in the future, after they get it all 100% done, they can always build a stick built house on this same property, turn this into an AirBnB and continue building their empire and making a killing.

    I think you made the right choice by placing the Bin King structure on top of the deck. love what you guys are doing. Concrete would have been super expensive and with the way you guys are doing it, this makes the most sense. When my wife and I built our home, we did concrete and it is very hard to plan exactly where you want everything that early on n the project when we being like you are not professionals. 24 ft x 18 ft tall costs between $9k and $12k depending on condition according to my internet research. You seem like you got a sweet deal of $7k and included delivery and install. Deck is ok and sounds more level. Easy to get at plumbing. Please go over when sewer and water and electric will potentially be installed.

    Me again , A polished concrete slab that size in the UK would be 10K , so a good saving going the deck route. If the laser is a one off job ? then we tend to use a clear hose filled with water and datum each base shuttering ,rather than the timber top plate, and i suspect cutting your own brackets from a length of angle would have been stronger and better on costs? Will watch with great envy as you crack on with the fit out, Regards Paul and Marie .

    Hey Guys, cool project!!! I build cool stuff for people who can afford cool stuff. Vey fun project!!! Oh to be young again, but I have concerns with your foundation. You did a good job of getting past the freeze line. You also made the right choice adding rebar. The thing that concerns me is the small profile of the concrete posts that reach the frost line and the concrete squares you added at the top. The key idea with a foundation is to remove all organic matter while reaching past the freeze line. if you set those square pads on topsoil, the reason it is called topsoil is because it has organic matter in it and will rott away eventually. This means the better your soil is the less those squares of concrete matter. I suggest you keep a close eye on settling and keep the project as light as possible. If you wish to address this more, simply dig out under square slabs strategically and pour more concrete under each. Your best bet is to assess strategic load points that the grain bin will put the most stress on and do them one at a time. Perhaps 4 corners closest and then load points in the middle of those. Good luck and never surrender!!!!!

    Just an idea. What if you have a fireplace come old fashioned coal stove right smack bang in the middle.
    Build the kitchen around that downstairs.
    Have a spiral staircase wrapped around the kitchen to get to the second floor.
    With the shape of the building and roof you can use the one fireplace to heat up your water and the entire home with an outlet right at the pitch of the roof to help control the temperature inside.

    If I lived there, anytime my wife asked for something, I would say "It's in the corner"
