No way Scorpions is a hair metal band. They were rockin it when the hair dudes were still in grade school. Scorpions is straight up solid rock! Glad I got to see them live in the late 70's!

Scorpions were formed in Hanover, (West) Germany in 1965 as a 'beat rock combo' band (Because they loved 60's British rock of the times)... They transitioned into jazzy psychedelic 'space rock' music in the early 70's (emulating Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Pink Floyd...) when they debuted in 1972 w/ the album 'Lonesome crow'... Klaus Meine (vocals) and Rudolf Schenker (guitar) put a new line-up of Scorpions together in 1974 and released a string of hard rock albums but were only able to tour Europe by 1977. In 1978, Scorpions played Japan for the 1st time and were greeted like celebrities there... A proper management and American record label in 1979 finally brought Scorpions to N. America and they had a gold record that year w/ 'Lovedrive' ... as the line-up solidified w/ Matthias Jabs (lead guitar) joined Klaus, Rudolf, Francis Buccholz (bass) and Herman Rarebell (drums) In 1980, Scorpions scored their first platinum record 'Animal Magnetism' ... This was years before the 'hair band' trend became popular in America (Klaus Meine was balding by the 80's and had to wear a cap by 1990... Rudolf Schenker had shorter hair by 1982) and Scorpions were vital in making the "big 80's" arena hard rock sound... They also appealed to women because of their ballads (Songs like 'Holiday' ... 'Lady Starlight' ... "Still lovin' you"... ) For the record, Scorpions persisted in the 90's and beyond, even after their popularity declined as they were unfairly labeled an "80's rock band"... Klaus, Rudolf and Matthias have never broken up Scorpions and consistently toured and released new music, despite bassist Francis Buccholz and drummer Herman Rarebell leaving the band by 1996. Obviously, a new generation of fans discovered the Scorpions' catalog of music in the 2000's and by 2010, Scorpions were bigger than ever... even today.

Maiden has come out and said many time that Scorpions were a big influence for them. Bruce Dickinson has done a cover of The Zoo and there are videos of the band noodling around some of their songs
Do yourselves a favor and check out some '70s Scorpions with Uli Roth on guitar... "Burn the Sky", "Sails of Charon", "They Want A Million", "Catch Your Train", "Hellcat" just to name a few... Also, the "Lovedrive" album with Michael Schenker on guitar is AWESOME. 🤘
Thing that is compelling about scorpions Scorps is that their career has spent several different eras. I love W.A.S.P. so I've got lots of suggestions. Early WASP go with I Wanna Be Somebody, L.O.V.E Machine or Blind in Texas. From their middle career, when they got deep, check out The Headless Children or Thunderhead. There last album, as a full band known as WASP is The Crimson Idol. It's a concept album about the music industry and what it was doing to bands at the time. Chainsaw Charlie is a great song. The Idol is very moving. One more is K.F.D. the title song from the same album. Another one I have to mention, the band is still called WASP at this time but it's the singer's solo act really, is called Goodbye America. WASP more than any other band in the eighties suffered from the music censorship drive and were basically driven from the US in order to keep selling music. You guys should do a deep dive on the PMRC sometime. As part of that watch the Senate hearings on it and the speech by Dee Snider of Twisted Sister.
Hi guys! Love your channell! I know Hair Metal was a realy big thing but there was other genres of music with high hair. High hair was also a style especially in NYC, Long Island, NJ especially when going out clubbing (late 80's early 90's)!! Again thanks for a great show everytime!! 💜💜🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🖤🖤🖤🖤
I bought the Bush CD, Razorblade Suitcase, twice. I got it before it came out because I had the hookup at a music store. Months after I bought it the second time, I found the first CD I bought. Then I had two of one of my favorite CD’s. 👍🏼
Scorps were much more a German contemporary of Priest, and were well established and one of if not the biggest band in Europe before hair metal was a thing.
In Europe we called Scorpions, Dokken, Bon Jovi etc ... "hard rock", even older like Led Zeppelin, the Who, Deep Purple were in "hard rock" ; even if the style evolved and new sub genres came we didn't change to "metal" until around 1990 -95 where the genres (with the coming of extreme genres) were more defined

Hi guys, Scorpions date back to the early 70s, and I'd say they belong to that fuzzy area crossing over from hard rock to early heavy metal. They hail from Germany, and there's also more traditional verging on progressive stuff from them back in the day ( try Fly to the Rainbow or Polar Nights with Uli Jon Roth on guitar if you want to get a taste of that). Cheers!
One of the lines is “give her inches and feed her well” so yeah, about sex. I heard them in HS when I was learning German. I loved the hint of a German accent and occasional phrase. They kind of kicked off the hair metal era.
Scorpions kinda fit in all over. I saw them with Motley Crue in probably '99, and Crue was great, but Scorpions dominated that show. Scorpions could kinda play with anyone and entertain the crowd.
Hollywood, you good brother....I'd I had a rock hair I'd be wearing it right now! 😎🤟 I was high school in mid-80s & Smokey is right, there's a blurry line with hard rock/hair metal etc. but we jammed & rocked out to it all. I had everything from The Who, Boston, Skynyrd, Zeppelin,.38 Special to Van Halen, Scorpions, Metallica, Frampton, Ozzy, the Crüe & ZZ Top. Oh man, cruisin on Friday/Saturday nights up & down the strip...just head bangin!! 😝 (Next from the Scorpions, try "the Zoo" or "Big City Nights" off their World Wide Live album....FIRE!!!)
Yes, you put them on for no reason 😂 Scorpions weren’t a hair band. Dubrow, the lead singer, was loosing his hair ! RIP to him . Hey, tid bit, his brother is Terry Dubrow from Bravo’s Botched & Housewives. Polar opposites I’d say. I saw Scorpions in 83 @ The Seattle Center Coliseum. I think they were touring with Blue Oyster Cult. Can’t remember, I saw so many concerts as a teen growing up in Seattle ! Good Times ! Keep having fun boys ! It’s fun watching & reminiscing ! 🤗👍🙌🤙
I may love my metal like Fear Factory, Machine Head etc-but you can never beat some good old fashioned Rock. I have this song on all of my classic rock and metal playlists along with Aerosmith, Maiden, Judas Priest etc. It's just good old fashioned rock music you can rock out to-and in my case air guitar like a maniac to lol. Just makes me feel good and puts me in the mood for a good time.
There are so much heavier Scorpions tracks to check out. Another Piece Of Meat, Speedy's Coming, Sails Of Charon, He's A Woman She's A Man, Polar Nights, Love Drive, The Zoo and Blackout. Scorpions got more commercial from 1984 and onwards
GREAT reaction guys! Scorpions are closer to British heavy metal (so Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, UFO), then they are hair metal (eg. Poison, Motley Crue, Ratt, etc...) - it's German heavy metal!!😁 But the hair you don works either way - it was the style for ALL metal! If you actually check the lyrics, it's pretty obvious what it's about - getting it on (first lines: It's early morning, the sun comes out, last night was shaking and pretty loud. My cat is purring, it scratches my skin, so what is wrong with another sin? - I don't think it's about an actual cat! Second verse - the b!tch is hungry, she needs to tell, so give her inches and feed her well... need we go on?) Need more Scorpions!! Still Loving You (album version, from the same as Rock You...IMHO one of THE best power ballads of the 80's), The Sails Of Charon (late 70's Scorps), The Zoo, Big City Nights, Lovedrive, No One Like You... Keep rocking guys! Cheers.
Scorpions predated hair metal. I'd come home from my first corporate job in 1980, put my head between the speakers and listen to Love Drive. Heavier than this, I think you'd like it. If you haven't already done Wild Child by WASP, please do the video. It cuts the guitar part short but Blackie's get-up needs to be seen.
I've seen Pink Floyd, Carlos Santana, Metallica, Out Laws, The Eagles, Foreigner, Black Sabbath, Pantera, but the Scorpions were the best! They SLAYED Metallica and Dokken
Scorpions way better (and earlier) than the hair metal wave. More in the AC/DC, Thin Lizzy. Priest, Ozzy post 70's hard rock era. German's best rock band of the era. Guitar hero in Michael Schenker and Klaus Meine has an undeniable voice metalheads gave respect to even if they were a little on the pop side. It's amazing they had hits like this in English when they didn't even speak it. Some of Meine's accent comes through on songs and it's funny sometimes. No One Like You is my fave and Wind of Change is their obligatory metal ballad of the time. Similar in vibe to GnR November Rain.
You guys can were the wigs for all the 80's songs......everyone in the 80's had long hair, if you were a guy back then with short hair then you were looked at like a nerd or mama's boy...... all the cool Rockers had long hair!

My cat is purring, it scratches my skin, so what is wrong with another sin? - I don't think it's about an actual cat! Second verse - the b!tch is hungry, she needs to tell, so give her inches and feed her well... need we go on?)
Need more Scorpions!! Still Loving You (album version, from the same as Rock You...IMHO one of THE best power ballads of the 80's), The Sails Of Charon (late 70's Scorps), The Zoo, Big City Nights, Lovedrive, No One Like You... Keep rocking guys! Cheers.
Rudolf Schenker, rhythm guitarist, started this band. He is a hoot in person! Asked me twice to be his American wife. LOL
Thanks for doing another Scorpions song.
W.A.S.P. - I Wanna Be Somebody
bonus: Twisted Sister - Burn In Hell
Live in Greece.

Thanks for the Party,...no one recognizes you either. You look HEAVY.😂🥰🎆🎸🎸
Animal Magnetism!
Yes!
I've seen Pink Floyd, Carlos Santana, Metallica, Out Laws, The Eagles, Foreigner, Black Sabbath, Pantera, but the Scorpions were the best! They SLAYED Metallica and Dokken
You need to check out Fly to the Rainbow by Scorpions. It's from 74 and has major prog elements
Slash and Michael PS Hayes are in the building
The wigs are AWESOME!!! LOL Smokey, if your wig was about 6" shorter, you'd be Sammy Hagar! :o
You need to take a trip to “The Zoo” by the scorpions !!!
World Wide Live version is epic.
The Zoo is my favorite Scorpions tune
They've been around a lot longer than the 80's
Ace of space
Check out The Zoo. You'll love it. They definitely preceed hair metal. They formed in the late 60s and are still playing today.
Slaughter is a great hair metal band from the 80s. Also do some Steel Panther.
More Ween and Motorhead please! Very cool shirts
Actually guys the scorpions were formed in 1964 and there debut album was in 1972
You guys can were the wigs for all the 80's songs......everyone in the 80's had long hair, if you were a guy back then with short hair then you were looked at like a nerd or mama's boy...... all the cool Rockers had long hair!
Black out live in Moscow.
Boy, this is the wierdest Wayne's World sequel I've ever seen.
Check out "The Zoo", my favorite song by the Scorps. Live version.
