Wow, im from basel and I would never have expected a video of you about my club! Love how you explained this all without leaving out crucial informations like other channels would do. You explained the pain of us supporters well. We were once a team that dreamt of beeing regulars in the top 8 in the champions league, fighting established giants of european football and now we struggle to even qualify for the coference league. Thanks for making the video! would have wished to meet you :)
If you look at the regulars in the quarter finals of the Champions League, you must realise that the ambitions were a bit silly. How were you going buy or develop players to equal the best in Europe on a turnover of 100 million ?
@@hb1338 20 years ago there wasn't as much money. Premier League clubs got less than 1/10 the prize money they do now and Manchester City were regularly flirting with relegation. Sven was England manager.
This channel, its quite informative. Thank you for spreading knowledge among the fans of the beautiful sport, and keep enjoying your visits to the various football hotspots! Looking forward to more videos
Fulham had one of the greatest away days ever at that place. Needed to win to get out of the Europa League group. Met Roy Hodgson just ambling around the Christmas markets about five hours before kickoff. Took over the lovely Stockli pub in the city centre. Won 3-2 because Zamora and Gera dismantled them. Spent the night singing karaoke in a weird bar with a Federer-alike playing piano.
I remember that night. It was my first contact with British football fans and I experienced them as a very drunk but cheerful and friendly bunch. I've had a sympathy for the British approach to football ever since.
Fun Fact: There´s also a retirement home above the shopping center and they have their own lounge behind glass. My great-grandfather lived there and i could watch a FCB match for free when visiting him
Kudos for your whiteboard message, StuntPegg. Even a Norwegian like myself who lived in the UK "decades" before you were born can appreciate that. As always, your take on football, culture and history also combined) is delightful.
I watch like one football match a week. I've only become a fan of the sport and a supporter of a team like 6 years ago, so when I say this I absolutely mean this; This is by far, the greatest channel on youtube. Thank you kindly.

Nieve, your videos are so fresh and inventive. They shine way above other football channels. You deserve so much success and a bigger audience on ‘proper tele’! Stuntpegg for Prime Minister!!
Randomly took my dear Ma there last season for a night game against Bratislava and accidently ended up in the moody end 😅 Great videos & great persepctives. Forza Napoli sempre! 🏴🇮🇹
Nice place, I have a home in Baden-Baden, so Basel is just down the road. I friend of mine had a Monteverdi car (made in a suburb of Basel) and we would meet up in Basel.
We did Karnival in NW Germany / Dutch border at Royal Air Force Bruggen its very much a cultural folk, dance, party themed event - one to embrace but some masks and hats are very strange and scary at first. But that’s the Karnival! Great blog must be said Peg.
So awesome! St Jakob park is a cool venue, I’ve caught a few matches there and loved my time at every one! Now head up the road from Basel and come to the VfB Stuttgart home game next week!
Great video as usual Nieve really enjoying these deep dives your doing with different Football clubs and I do miss when FC Basel used to be in the Champions league and hope your well :)
You could do a video like this one for Valencia CF. Their situation is kinda... unique and weird. If you need any extra info I could help you out. Plus, there are a lot of people willing to spread the word to raise awareness about the club's current situation.
I remember the first time I watched one of your videos, Nieve. It was the Villa Birmingham match in 2019 that someone recommended on a forum. I think you picked up quite a few subscribers from that one, 4 and a bit years later it feels like we've watched you growing up. Love your work, keep it up. Hope your family are well.
It wasn't the Young Boys who took the title away from us. It was B. Burgener who first sold 6 regular players, then made further dreadful mistakes and thus sent FC Basel into misery. The same Burgener wasted millions (approx. 47) of Swiss francs of the club unnecessarily.
Love your videos. Your sense of humour is great and always makes me laugh, especially the reaction to the carnival outfits 😂 You should have picked up a carnival shirt while you were there.
It’s been a strange season for some of the ‘bigger’ teams in Europe this season. Basel, Ajax and Lyon have all had similar seasons, almost flirting with relegation before steadying the ship more recently and slowly climbing
Came across this channel like 2 days ago and just love it. The stories, the jokes, the format and your presentation are just incredible. Brilliant channel :)
Great video again, filled with history and humour, if you ever go to Switzerland again, may I suggest Montreux?, It’s not a football place, but it’s a music place (sod that, it’s a music pilgrimage), and a very quiet, calming place, also very touching tribute to Steve Wright at the back 👍.
I dont want to be too forward or personal since we dont even know each other well, but I must deeply compliment you on your ability to speak English despite growing up in England.
Also home to an annual international watch fair! Great video! And yes, there are some German originated words that have a slightly different meaning from what they sound like spoken!
FC Barcelona were formed in 1899 by Joan Gamper (who had played for FC Basel) and Frederick Whitty who had gone to school at Merchant Taylor's School, Crosby in Liverpool. Both Basel's soccer shirts and Merchant Taylor's rugby shirts were blue and maroon. They agreed that Barcelona's colours (Blaugrana) would mirror these kits. Nothing to do with the video, Nieve, I just love useless information.
Hi could you consider doing a video on the season of Servette FC (also Swiss league). They are doing an exceptional season. So far, 1 point behind the leader in the league, semi final of cup and round of 16 of conference league. With a team worth only 25 millions, they manage to eliminate Genk (100+ millions value), compete equally with Rangers (100+ value) and drew against AS Roma but they had also some problems with new players that cannot play due to administrative issues and it would be great to summaries it in a video.
Switzerland is all like that. Servette geneva stadium is connected to a shopping centre and the lets whack a soviet looking office block next to a wooden chalet aesthetic is everywhere too.
There have been a few international channels trying to make sense of our downfall in the past few weeks and months. This video is the most brilliant of the bunch. By far.

a lot of football stadions have a ton of unused space under the seating and such. that's where they built the shopping center in, basically tze bern stadion has a nightclub and some stores, too

Reto Baumgartner didn't replace Bernhard Burgener, David Degen did. @VictorLugosi are you from 1980? Geez.
Why do you have a better news presenter delivery than most professional news people? Refreshing. I really like your channel.
Probably because she's genuinely interested in the game and not a corporate "journalist".
She’s a natural and she’s passionate about this topic. Talented lady

Ah, the Kunstmuseum - it actually means art museum. Great video as always!
The kit FCB were wearing is a special Carnival kit too... they usually play in red and blue halves.
