    Thanks Sam, another great and informative video that helped a lot. My first GRD1 was perfect and seemingly new ! Second one, it sticks sometimes on adjust switch and hasn't been updated yet. But I think once my electronics spray gets here, that should fix it. I love the photos this camera puts out and it's a lot of fun as well. I also just got a GXR with a couple of lenses and a few more coming. I think I really love this camera as well. When I get the Leica M module I'll be able to use all my many vintage lenses with the right adapters. It's really a great camera and I really wonder what Ricoh was thinking when they discontinued it ? I hope they pull their heads out and get back to it soon ! LarryMac

      Hi Larry you’re all in! You got the best Ricoh gear!! Let me know if the electronic spray works out for your GRD.
      I got the GXR and M module too. Great setup and system! I think it was discontinued because the changing modules were too radical for most people to appreciate the brilliance of the system but I’m glad smart folks like you can appreciate it! Nice to read your comments!

    I can honestly say Sam I love this camera in B&W, It produces great images and far better than my XH1 for street work. I'll be honest I'm still struggling with taking pics at night time and not much info on settings. I'm just using higher ISO which I don't mind but is this camera supposed to just be used in flash mode for night work?

    • @cameralegend1033
      @cameralegend1033  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Impressive to hear how it compares to your XH1! As for the higher ISO shots it definitely has the limitations of being an older, small sensor camera. You will get a lot of noise at high ISOs and it's not always pretty noise. If you want those cool Terry Richardson style photos I suppose the flash would work! I have done that and you could get some fun shots.
      For night street shots, depending on how dark it is out there, I generally use ISO 800 or 1600 in bw mode, shoot wide open, and try to keep the shutter speed at 1/30 the lowest but a lot of times street lights in crowded areas will allow for higher shutter speeds. Keep experimenting and I think you'll come up with some combo you can work with. Have fun and thanks for your comments!

    Hello, my friend. How are you? Do you know if the Ricoh GX100 is comparable to the Ricoh GRD I? I understand that the GRD I has a fantastic black and white, with a very organic grain, similar to the film grain, and in addition, the contrast of black and white can be adjusted in the camera itself. Many digital cameras incorporated a noise reduction that, in my opinion, spoils the photos, however the GRD I seems not to apply this "softened". In general, all these veteran cameras have gone up a lot in price, and specifically the GRD I is very difficult to find in my country (Spain). Thank you very much for your help.

    • @cameralegend1033
      @cameralegend1033  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi my friend, I have used the GX100 and it's a great camera. However I felt the b&w files from the GX100 were different. I haven't used it in a while so from recollection I remember the GX100 files to look "harsher" or harder, more digital in some way.
      I can't fully explain it other than to say I was a little disappointed with the GX100 until I started shooting it in color and processing the images. After a little work they looked great! But it's a matter of personal preferences you may find you like it. The b&w files can look good too after a little work. I guess what I'm saying is the GRD original does b&w effortlessly out of the box whereas the GX100 did not give me those results out of camera, I had to work the images. Hope this helps.

    Original GRD1 doesn’t have the option to choose your distances for SNAP focus mode…..so every time I try using the Snap focus mode I’m never sure what distance(1m?, 2m?, 5m? Infinities?) is there solution to it? Firmware update would fix it? Or am I missing something?

    • @cameralegend1033
      @cameralegend1033  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think there was ever a firmware update unfortunately. If I'm not mistaken the distance on the original GRD Snap mode is 2.5 meters. However due to the small sensor many times I find images sufficiently sharp no matter what mode I'm using so that's a plus. But yeah it would have been nice if they had given this camera a firmware update on the Snap mode for more options.

  • @louisboothman436
    @louisboothman436 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey man, do you know where i can download the firmware files? On Ricoh's website you can only download an exe file for windows which i imagine should extract the files but it doesnt work? Recently sold my GRIII in favour of a GRD I !

    • @cameralegend1033
      @cameralegend1033  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That Ricoh link should have worked but maybe it's too old for Windows. My friend says it worked on his 2019 Mac. Might have to try it on a Mac or try a Chromebook if you can get access to one, maybe go to the Apple Store. Let me know if you get it going! Have fun with the GRD glad to read your comments!

      @cameralegend1033  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that! Knock on wood it hasn’t happened to any of mine but I imagine it could especially on cameras like these where the lenses come out when opened and retract when you turn it off. It’s actually a weak point in a lot of point and shoot cameras.
