You just solved a lot of my problems. Thank you.

I really like that paddle box, great idea. Actually the whole setup is sweet. Going to keep this as a reference for my kayak trailer build.

Thanks! The box was a good idea, but poor implementation. The positioning and size are good, but I'm sure you can design a better box. If built another one, I wouldn't make it out of plywood for sure.

If you don't mind saying, what are the measurements between the shelves?

@@Kayak7seas Diagrams are here. 26" between the top and middle shelf.

What is a rough estimate on material cost?

    • @KoreyAtterberry

@@claytonroland8684 The paddle box is just 1 sheet of marine grade plywood (wood is super expensive right now) and a couple of small hinges and 4 u-bolts. For racks, I spent about $225 in steel.

Ive been thinking about a similar design, but utilizing cotter pins to I could remove the pieces pretty quickly and easily, but I’m not sure about how noisy it will be going down the road.

Not a bad idea. Make some sleeves on the top rails to drop the uprights into. Maybe a shim to stop the rattle. Then you could just pull 5 pins and remove it. In practice, I just grab one of my kids and lift the hole thing off in one piece, but I don't take it off very often But it's not very heavy. If you don't put on the paddle box, maybe you could just fold the front upright down and remove the back one.

Hey Korey, by chance have you posted the dimensions and measurements for this project? Or maybe you have scanned a copy of your build plan with dimensions? I have a similar trailer that measures the same as yours- 5'×8'. Also, what was the wall thickness and size of your metal tubing?

Yep, in the video description is a link to my website. Let me know if you have further questions after reviewing

How stable is this without the Front bar that goes to the tongue?

Well, you if you don't have it, the whole system could lean forward or backward. I think it's easy insurance. You could maybe put gussets where it mounts to the trailer frame instead though.

I do not see that holding 12 Yaks, maybe 9 non-fishing Yaks tops . Most of your top fishing Yaks are 34 inch wide now

I don't have 12 boats, but if you go to my page, you can see 11 (8 rec boats, 1 touring, 1 tandem sit-on-top, 1 tandem canoe). You could easily fit 12 rec boats (4 bottom, 3+3 middle, 2 deck down on top) without any extra equipment. Add a stacker on top and 16 recreational kayaks should work. This wasn't designed for fishing kayaks, but the green tandem is the photos is 35" wide. I imagine you could fit maybe 5 fishing yaks lying flat. Details: www.atterberry.net/funstuff/kayak-trailer/
