I see so many videos of people putting on all these aftermarket performance parts. But I don’t see any engineering or technical stuff in most of these videos. Just because an intercooler is bigger or because the piping is bigger doesn’t automatically mean you have more performance. A larger intercooler could flow less than an OEM intercooler that is smaller. Lower boost temperature means lower boost pressure. The reason you need a bigger intercooler is because you are flowing more air because you put a bigger turbo on it or you tuned it to run higher pressure with the stock intercooler. I used to watch this channel a lot, but then I started seeing all these gimmick videos coming out of this white garage instead of people actually doing work like a technician.
low air temp means higher air density. this is basic knowledge, this is why hot air holds more moisture less dense and thus allowing water molecules to be suspended in air. the whole point of a bigger intercooler is to cool more volume of air, quicker. as the air comes out of the intercooler and through the end tanks the fact that it bottlenecks down to fit the outlet pipes diameter means the air speed increases. The very movement of air will make surrounding air follow as well as the sudden velocity change decreases pressure (vacuum) meaning the air gets sucked in, look up Bernoulli's principle, its not flow that is the problem it is turbulence, which is why Cameron mentions how the end tanks were CNCd to help the flow. ALSO the bigger intercooler will help with heat soak which can be a BIG problem on turbo charged engines such as this GR Corolla, Focus STs, Mazdaspeed3s, Golfs and any other car such as those. Lastly, engines are basically glorified air pumps, so the logical thing to increase efficiency of an air pump is allowing it to intake more air, and exhaust more air. So a bigger intercooler helps provide MORE cool air to the engine at any given time aiding in said air pumps efficiency
