As a grown assed man who has read comics since childhood, Mignola's Hellboy is my favorite comic series ever (after love & rockets and eightball. Whenever those come out, I'm fucking giddy) Still, he has given me genuine chills.
Hellboy is just an amazing beast. A true pop culture icon that deserves all the praise it garners. I'm preparing a massive dive into BPRD this Nov. I read all the first run, but have been letting Hell on Earth pile up for a moment like this. Such a well-fleshed out universe, totally worthy of rivaling anything from Marvel or DC.
I think B. P. R. D would be a good buddy cop show.

I love the fact that Hellboy Is more a Rocky fighter, like the Thing. Both are trained dudes in fighting but their victories are better after they recieved a good beating.

TheHoodyBadger I’m going to be honest- I have no idea what sopakktu means, but I’m assuming it’s referring to either the Kurt Russell & Dog portrait from The Thing- or the hari Kari blood splatter canvas along side it. Both are favorites of mine. I (Dave) made the hair kari one with melted crayons- and the Thing portrait was done by an online artist who’s name unfortunately escapes me.

Revisiting some videos for your guys’ anniversary you guys have been my favorite channel for a little over 2 years. You have great editing opinion taste and selection in comics. Even covering some great non superhero comics that people forget exist.

I disagree in many ways. The minamalistic style that makes up Hellboy in the later issues was perfect. It was detailed through what he didn't draw as much as he did. It's amazing and iconic in my opinion.

Of course Cam! Our favorite part of talking comics is hearing other people's opinions, especially when they might be different than our own. (For the record- Dave digs the Mignola style- it's piece of shit Troy that had an issue with it, but we'll let him slide on this one). Dave recently saw a Mignola exhibit in NYC where they showcased about 75 original pieces from the maestro himself and actually got to meet him. Really great time, and breathtaking to see the inked pieces up close, without any computer enhancement.
Imperius Rex - Just awesome. I hope he comes up to my neck of the woods for a convention or two after he resurrects Hellboy. In watching a few interviews by him I am really enjoy his perspective on the comic book genre and writing in general. Mignola has said many times that he doesn't consider himself a true 'writer' and has shown humility in regards to his art as well. I think this is fantastic and a great reflection on a master who is always looking to improve his craft even after years of recognition.
Definitely- especially when he talks about how he came up with Hellboy because he didn't want to draw cars, buildings, etc. All things he knows he isn't great at drawing so he just focused on his strengths and interests. Giant monsters and gothic atmosphere.
Just got the first omnibus! I did read the TPB for wake the devil back in 2007 and loved it.

DazBri thanks! Hellboy is a great gateway into the wonders of the Mike Mignolaverse. If you dig that, I recommend moving onto BPRD, which kicks off right after Hellboy leaves the team and continues the Plague of Frogs storyline that began in Hellboy Seed of Destruction and Conqueror Worm. I’m doing a BPRD marathon right now and it’s a fantastic read.
Now there will be a third movie, not as comical with a new director.
Yep- looking forward to it! I love Del Toro as a director, and as much as I enjoy his take on Hellboy, I'm excited for a darker, more comic-accurate version to hit film. The director did the horror flick "The Descent" and "Dog Soldiers," along with a ton of Game of Thrones episodes, so I think we're in good hands. And Sheriff "Stranger Things" cuts a striking image of Big Red. Here's hoping it delivers!

Neither of us are board gamers, but goddamn does that new Hellboy game look enticing. I really want it. Might make for a fun video if the two of us try to figure it out like a bunch of newbs.

I disagree with the dude in the white shirt. The later style, IS HELLBOY. Don't get me wrong i enjoy the super detailed art from the begining but they were still testing thr waters and looking for what they wanted to do with Hellboy. That minimalistic style is what truly set Hellboy apart from other comics. It's not laziness its style. I know mignola had a different artist draw for him later on, but even when he finished the story on hellboy in hell thay style was very important to the story telling. Like when he was in hell everything was very washed out but the fire and action shots were super saturated made it feel special. Just my 2 cents not hating or anything
