once again tech talk with dlow. explaining and teaching you how to remove and install wheels bearing on your harley davidson. like comment share subscribe
Good video on using wheel bearing removal and installation tool. To people who might be trying to do this at home I would like to give a few additional tips as I have a independent motorcycle shop and change wheel bearings frequently. When you are getting ready to remove the first bearing place wheel on its side so bearing you are going to remove is facing up. Spray some penetrating oil on outside diameter bearing race where it makes contact with rim let it sit for a few minutes so it has a chance of penetrating between outer bearing race and wheel hub. This will prevent galling of the rim bore when you remove the bearing, you can also apply a little heat. This way the bearing will come out easier. After you get the bearing out and clean the bore apply anti seize sparingly to the bore. This will prevent galvanization and make the removal of the bearing the next time easier. Hope this tip along with video on how to use the tool makes the job easier. Again nice video on tool usage.
@@DevilDog59 thank you for the information. This my first Harley, so I'm a rookie on knowing much about it. So far I've changed the starter and reworked the Bendix. I had to pull the clutch to do that. I've put new air shocks on it . I put a new key switch on the tank. I've done three 3 holes change's on the oil. I've put a new gas filter on it. It was a pain getting it back down into the tank. But I finally got it done. My uncle had an old Harley when I was young so I'm glad I paid attention on the stuff he did to his. He taught me lot just watching him. And handing him tools.
Great easy to follow video I bought that bearing tool and the All Balls bearings for both the front and rear wheels. I turn my own wrenches as much as possible.
I like the how to videos. And the last time I heard somebody say they don't need instructions. Was Tim Allen as Tim The Toolman Taylor on Home I Improvement talking to his youngest son. Saying real men don't need instructions. I think that's the truth about us.
Great video that shows me exactly what I want to know without all the fluff that others do. Question though: it is my understanding that when you pull a bearing, a new one MUST be installed but you used it again?
@@dannydlowbikertv that’s even better than what I did…bought new bearings from dealership and don’t remember where I put them or even if I left there with them as I had other parts I also bought all in a bag. Had to buy them again but got All Balls.
the abs bearing meant for one side only right? I just ordered two bearings but didn’t think of that…so one side the bearing doesn’t have to be abs magnet right?
I know you can't title it this way, swearing and all, but the title should end with "without all the bullshit." Great video because it's the average guy working on his bike, not some guy who has a fancy bearing press given to him from some sponsor- that we can't afford. Thanks. I'm gonna hit up amazon and buy one of those kits too.
The rear wheel on my 2020 RK has some end play at 36,000ish miles Not like side 2 side butt if you pull on the bottom of tire left 2 right it seems like some play is that normal with the stock enforcer mag ? Ps I have over 100,000 on my 95 RK yep I spin my wrenches. Thank you for your time from JR
@dannydlowbikertv I found the problem I hadn't yet put the full tork on rear 135' lbs now it's good . Swingarm bushings ok . Your point will be put in my memory. Thanks for your time from JR
Wats up Danny. Hey man I really dig your videos on working on your bike. This one exspecially because Iam about to change out my bearings soon. Perfect timing. And I’ve always looked at a real biker as one who works on his own bike. None of the bikers I grew up looking up to as role models took their bikes to dealership. They would rather have a beat down then let dealership work on their bike. For real I dig all your videos tho. Thanks bro
Thank you brother, I subscribed immediately. yes one of the best videos, I've ever seen! Thank you again .going to do a 2005 softail. I purchased the all b.... Bearings also👍👍. I was always curious when installing the bearing how far to go down into the hub? Ty
The middle spacer has to be the correct length for when you torque the axle nut it gives support to the inner races of the bearings and doesn't cause side load. It needs to be the proper diameter to meet up with the inner races only.
For those who don't know the bearing he's using is an abs bearing, you can tell by that little line going around the bearing, non abs won't have that. Also you can tell ur bike has abs if there's 2 lines going to the caliper, of there's only 1 you don't have abs
Great Video short and to the point with no 3 minute intro or 5 minute monologue about the history of bearings I have the same kit, the kit works even better when you lube the washers and threats with 90w less friction on moving parts. A 49$ remove and install kit will save you about 500 bucks of shop work. If you are attempting this on your own, try to have someone with you, because installing the tire, spacers and caliper all at the same time is a big pain in the arse if you've never done it before. Your first time will probably take you a few hours from start to riding again. Also if I may, Do your self a favor and mix synthetic Transmission fluid with acetone, 1/2 and 1/2 mix well and put it on your barring you are going to take off. The Acetone Dives the Tranny fluid between the barring and the hub. Tranny fluid and acetone works better than any penetrating product on the market, what you don't use save for rusted bolts on other projects but you have to mix it again because it separates quickly. I learned that from my Uncle who owned a Crop and dairy farm now I'm sharing it with you.
cut to the quick of it done in real time with the commentary and humor gotta love it. my hd dealer told me 450 plus. three hours labor at 150 or so not begrudging them hourly rate pretty standard maybe that included removing the wheel didnt ask.
Finally someone down to earth cheats and t-shirt guy with no bulshit! I just bought my first Harley 03 Softail Deuce and I've always done all my own wrenching on my crotch rockets it's my life my ass on that seat I want to know how it fucking works and how it goes together. With no bulshit 20-minute waste my time tell me how to fucking fix it so I can fix it thank you so much
@@dannydlowbikertv I too had to break down and open up the shop manual recently changed belt and pulleys and primary chain tensioner put it all back together and starter wouldn't engage properly looked at it for the rest of the day put it together and taking apart trying to figure out where I fucked up finally after looking to the shop manual I didn't have the lock plate tab lined up what's a slot in the Jack shaft once I did that problem gone but like you I'm a guy and I know what I'm doing too LOL
I agree with you. I’m sure we all watched the TH-cam channel Demons row our buddy Ghost there he got mad at me or said some sideways stuff to me in a comment section when I said you taking that Harley Davidson symbol off doesn’t stop it from being a Harley Davidson. If you’re really Harley Davison sell your Harley and buy a Indian.
Thank you for this video. Gonna tackle this on my 2021 low rider. I think some of those "woke" followers are just that. Like lemmings they see others do it and follow suit and they also don't know how to wrench.
Pick up my bearings today installer kit should be in tomorrow. And your video will be right in front of me LOL thanks for being straight to the point no bulshit. I'm a guy too and I hate fucking directions LOL

Normally you only install a new one. My bearing never was used, just put it in wrong so I flipped it. Nothing to worry about.

If you don't have a kit you can use an expanding masonry bolt to grab the inside of the bearing.
