  • Doug Schneiter presents his second demonstration on Basket Illusion to the Rocky Mountain Woodturners. Doug showcases the D-Way beading tool as a cutting approach rather than scraping. He has streamlined his beading technique and shows several jigs and fixtures that facilitate the process. He updates the brands of coloring pens available. He briefly shows the woodburning techniques that turn the beads into segments.
If you wish to take a class or purchase his specialized tools please contact him through his website: www.dougschneiterwoodturner.co...

Man I had this guy as a wood shop tearcher in high school (early 2000s) One of my favorite classes. He's a great teacher. Looks like youre still teaching and creating awesome work. Thanks for teaching people how to use their hands and create something awesome and be proud of it. If you remember me, I was a shit. Lol But I have a successful construction business. I appreciate the skills you passed along. Hope you're doing well Mr. Schneiter.

Another great demo on this process! I'm signed up for the workshop at Craft Supplies in July and I can't wait!

I think you could use a toaster or ni-chrome wire, curved, to do the cross-bowl burning to save a heck of a lot of time, and skip the pencil registry lines or convert that step to do 48 lines each side.

Great presentation. I am an artist and I use a lot of alcohol based brush tip markers. Copic are the best you can get for blending colors on paper and that sort of thing but you should check out Ohuhu brand markers. They are very good markers and cost much less than the ones you’re purchasing. A 36 copic marker set is $150. A 48 Ohuhu marker set is $35 and would work just as well as the others for what you use them for.

Is a mask necessary for different woods? If so, which woods would you wear a mask?

Where can I get one of those bowl gouge pistols for 60 degree?? Enjoyed the video, haven't tried basket illusion yet but it's definitely in the near future. ..

The different thicknesses of plastic laminate is in actuality the different grade of the plastic laminate material. The thickest laminate is the standard grade, the thinner one is named post form grade and bends easier than the standard grade and is used in the post form countertops (the ones with radius at the top of the splash and the juncture if the backsplash and the counter surface and the larger radius at the front edge of the countertop).

I am relatively new to bowl turning and have just recently gotten back into turning. You as well as others I have seen use tool handles that allow you to change out your tools and keep the same handle. Where might I find these at? I see some out there but I have no idea what I should be looking for. I have a cheap set of starter tools from almost 30 years ago and see advantages in upgrading. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also, I love the basket illusion bowls and plates! I'm working on getting the proper tools now for those items. After many years of woodworking, I now have the patience and desire to work on intricate items like this. I sure wish you were in the area to see in person and to gleen more information.

Very useful video. Thanks. For future reference, it would help if you could repeat audience questions. If you say, "Yes, but only on Thursdays," I have no idea what you're talking about unless I know the question. Also, if you mention names, especially brand names, some text on the screen would make it easier for us newbies to find them.

Great demo!!! Maybe edit some of the talking for TH-cam so people can find what they need to know faster.

Wouldn't it be easier to learn how to basket weave instead of making wood look like basket weave . Just a thought
