For those old enough to remember, this new JP foil board concept has the exact same concave outline at the tail as my 1980 HiFly 111. Completely different board and use of course but interesting to see the similarity. Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Thanks for sharing what is usually kept pretty secretive.
Interesting to see that new concepts are being developed. That is also what I do. And actually I have a better version of this. What I think is a bit of a shame is that you after 1 session you apparently draw definitive conclusions while there is much more to it. And not just a little but much more. I call my creation a midwind foil board and speed needle. (120 liters!) The entire video series is not finished yet, but it will be in the foreseeable future. Check out my channel video; Install a foil box DIY (In this case, in an speed needle / foilboard) At 7.46 min. (a very short action clip) On my channel you can find also way more DIY projects!
Hi Rob! Good to see you pushing the sport. I have seen your videos 😊. My conclusion is that obvious, because I know if I could race on this and kick ass or not. And with that one it was very obvious for me. One of the major reasons was the concave on the deck, which made it really, really hard to take and jibe. That will cost you a lot of time in a race... that's why I was able to draw a quick conclusion on wether it will go in production or not.
check it out that looks amazing, want one just so damn unique, Nico what is the width if that is around a 100 Formula and narrow and kickass short defo the future.. nice lookin board, i recon deep concaves under the hull
Hi Nico, refering ro the fin video comming, could you ask some about rhe ‘spinout slots’? Like, what is his opinion about these. How wide and how long should they be. How far from the front should they be. When to use and when absolutly not to use. I am really curious about the answers. 🤙🏻
Hi, well those are the long narrow openings in fins. Like 5 to 10 cm long and only 5 mm wide. Open from top of the fin at bottom board down the fin. It should make the air bubble, causing spinout, to ventilate away. I hope you understand what I mean.
2•c screw that! As a beginner learning on 40 year old gear, I love the look of the width of that board. I’ll pass on the foiling for now.....!? Thanks for sharing. 😎🏖🌴☀️🇦🇺
I did not like JP as we had major lamination problems on JPs. But It is good to see that a JP tester is actually turn the proto down for a better board, not just saying 'This board is Fantastic'. I can now see JP is actually working hard on developing their product.
Interesting board design! Would it help to attach a pad at the back of the board to step on just for the moment when you need the lift for the foil to get going? If the pad is thin enough, it may not interfere with the normal operation of the board while still increasing the length at the back of the board. If you still have the board and don't use it anywasy, you can just screw in a wooden block from the back side of the board xD...
Even Robby Nash said we will all be back on single fin pen tails in the future. This is all just a bad experiment that we won’t all look back on and laugh
I was always curious about two step takeoff hull shapes for both foiling boats and boards , in theory it should reduce drag during takeoff phase but it has big influence on pumping capabilities. If you guys are testing it then concept must have potential, I'm sure you will get it better on next iteration. The other way of looking is that your pumping technique is already too good :)
Great video ! It would be nice to do a windsurf video with foil in the alps ! I am sure that is a good idea to find a spot on the mountains. I will recommend Switzerland :)
5 years later foil racing took over. But 2024 finally Slalom X is great again and we can enjoy fins!. Foil is nice but not as exciting and wild as fins. And it's not as fun to watch.
Think the whole fouling issue is a bit of a non starter. Ok but will never catch on like the original style as it’s pretty one dimensional and looks quite boring except for light winds when I’d rather be doing something else. Each to their own though.
Thanks for your opinion, Gary. I heard many similar ones of people who didn't try it yet 🤙🤙 On the contrary of what you say, foiling actually adds another dimension.
I think you are too old. (just kidding, but the people at my club saying this kind of thing are old and bald and falling for foiling one after another.) You should try it, after 2 years of 99% of my sessions on the foil (I think over 250) I'd way rather take the foil in almost any conditions than a regular board for additional control and ease of use compared to the regular kit. Only when wind is above 30kts somewhere I switch to the small wavekit nowadays, but thats soon gonna change with a 3.0 and possibly 2.4 coming my way.
I think people are scared of foiling because the dynamics are so different and it first feels like walking on egg-shells. But would you have thought, after standing on a windsurfing board for the first time, that you'll be planing forth and back, riding waves etc.? Same goes for the foil... only you learn it much faster if you can already windsurf. It feels so stable nowadays, and makes the chop disappear. So, I agree... there are days that are suitable for slalom, but I prefer taking out the foil.
Brother........do you really need to use the F......word? You r part of a big and important company like Neil Pryde!!!!! Yeah you can be a great wsurfer but show some respect to general public!!!

It's a beast! Bottom shape was quite unique. Do you know what the different features were hoping to do?
Love to see the development and testing videos! thanks Nico!

Good to get out some old memories 👍👍
Bien, así es, tengo 56 y veo aplicarse los conceptos de las buenas épocas 🤙🏄♂️
Hello Nico! Did you tested any inflatable windsurf board ?
I'm watching this in Malaysia. Current temperature... 37c (11.30pm).
Here is 30C, Brazil
Here is 28C, Israel
Lucky. It’s like 0 c on the East coast of the us
Nico Hardcore!😂
Those no wind days when theres no wind at all the whole day, are one of the most extreme testing of patience and resilience lol. Its terrible lol

Congratulations. You are a 100% qualified weatherman for TV. Either it will be windy or not ..... Applause :-) its always "walk the dog" weather.
Haha, gotta make smart predictions. That way I can't be wrong...
Nice to see the Future of foiling - Not every day out on the water is insane
Yeah, but this one is actually not going in production 😁🤙
Haha, the ‘no windsurfing’ sign at you spot😂
That's only one part of the spot, because that area is for swimmers.
Any thoughts of sticking a 70cm fin on and see how it behaves as a straight windsurf board?
mhhh... just didn't think that would've made much sense. Still have one 70cm Kashy left 😁
Hi Nico. Which spot was this?

It’s actually 30°C out here right now. Thanks man!
Going out tomorrow and Sunday. 10C and rain 👍
This new concept board is gone but your concept with me, particularly about being fair and honest is already set...Tks...
Haha, cool Paulo! I'm glad...

Possibly that could help but then there are other issues aswell.
heey in holland its also cold how do you dry your sails
I don't in this weather 😄
If your sail gets dry you do not surf enough 😎😬
Super video Nico. It was very interesting to see. I love seeing new radical designs.
The board looked cool, too bad it didn't work out.
Thanks Øyvind!!

Hahaha! Hope it’ll get better soon.

looks like 49er for windsurfing sail :)
haha, kind of, but different idea behind it.
Well, it DID go into production :-)
Hi wann kommt das Video über Finnen?
Gotta say although I do not own any JP kit ,they are pushing in the R&D department.
Großartig! Star Trek comes to windsurfing business
Haha!
Well done, find it very interesting :-)

Still a very nice video! 🤙🏼

Nice to see new stuff. Foiling is the future...
That's what I think too... always great to see how far we can take things 😊

Didn't get this. A video of not sailing, when you did go sailing in the end? Fair enough.
Every video I click on TH-cam at the min seems to have a sausage dog in it. Weird
i think that foil is not the future of windsurfing, foil is nothing compared to wave and slalom sailing
Am with you in that but foil is the future of light wind instead of formola
I have to agree with @arad ben shlomo
