It was great to meet you on the slipway in Mellieha, I was impressed that you asked our advice on launching and what hazards to look out for in the bay. It just proves that no matter what level of sailor you are, it’s always prudent to talk to the local sailors before going out. Peter Micallef
You look amazing out there i wish i could windsurf and foil as good as you do ill get there sometime but it will take a whole lot of practice! Hope ill see some more of ur videos soon! And offcourse i would love the shirt ;)
Thank you Nico and Lars! This kind of videos are great as they show the reality of windsurfing in weather changing conditions. This place looks unbeleivable!
Thanks to you I have started windsurfing, I have gone 3 or 4 times now on a big 300L board and hope to one day be able to windsurf really well. your videos inspire me to become better. Thanks!
Big like form France !! Thank you for making people aware of the risks of thunderstorm. I have been caught in a thunderstorm once while sailing and it was the scariest day of my life !
Beautiful storm it was and horrifying at once. Derigging on the open sea is something we rarely practice. It could be a sub-topic of an upcoming video...
Nico, just discovered your channel and I'm loving it! Sailed dinghy boats my whole life since I was 7, (I'm 37 now), but new to windsurfing this past year. Do you have any advice for older new to windsurfing sailors? I am loving it, but I'm not 20 anymore and don't want to get hurt. Maybe a video about preventing injuries? Thanks so much and keep up the great content!
Yikes-- One time I was windsurfing at the Outer Banks (NC) and spotted a t-storm moving in from the ocean side. No problem, I thought. But I was surrounded by strikes both ocean and soundside, quite suddenly. Waited it out for 20-30 mins, sort of under my sail, then straight lined for shore as soon as possible. Not recommended.
Hi Nico, great Idea to go from Malta to Sicily. I just left Sicilia last Saturday. We have eben close to a good spot at the south-west-coast, called Torre die Gaffe. If you retry the crossing, maybe I can you some hints for good Arancini If you arrive there. Good luck. Jochen
Awesome! I think your videos hit a sweet spot between great windsurfing shots, travel reports, spot checks and entertainment. I assume you and your team had to put in massive amounts of work. Thanks!
incredibly good pictures, you definitely made the right decision intuitively. that shows true greatness! I would love to see more slalom fin shots again =)
One of my best memories was in Limfjorden (Denmark), totally overpowered because I was on a budget, and could hardly go up against the wind. It was totally extreme and I was having a blast up until a thunderstorm started right above me. I immediately went into the water and hid below my rig until it was over. I looked like the Michelin-man (suit full of water) when I got out of the water. This video really reminds me of that day.
Malta, the place were I really got the virus of windsurfing at the age of 12…….. Been there several times and it is such a nice country and also very good for windsurfing. I learned windsurfing there at the Melliehabay at the beach side. Looking forward to your next video!
Hi, nices Video. Also gleichmäßiger wind etc.
Been there when this kind of storm hits you and broke my head so glad you derigged so early, good call. Awesome video and nice to see that not everywhere you go is nice weather
I have watched the vid with my kids, my smallest daughter loves your colorful pink Gear, my son tries windsurfing with me soon (6 years). He loves sailing too 🎉 It is great to see your joy on the water ❤ very heavy with the bad weather and IT was great that you have first thought of your safety! Great man!
I've been watching your channel for 3 years and you were the main reason I didn't go to kitesurfing. Love your channel and I'm very excited for the opportunity to win(I Hope so) your shirt. Very good video like all your other videos
Nice Video and Story Nico. Gives a good insight on how beautiful Malta is. I just think that if they really wanted to do this crossing they just should have used a "Strand by" period and then just go when conditions are suitable. My friend Begalli did the crossing from Sicily to Malta, and he waited for several weeks to get the ideal conditions!! Anyway looks like you had a fun time!!
Another great place and another great video - Sailing in Le Defi would be great but may be too far to travel from New Zealand, but the Le Defi vest would be awesome ;-) You should visit New Zealand sometime!
Cmon man, now I have to add yet another small island to my bucket list. I just visited fuerte, planning to go to bonaire and now wrote down Malta. Take five with these bucket list spots, would you 😊
Went to Malta once many years ago. Never again and won't bore you with the details but it wasn't a nice place to visit. Looks like the rental cars haven't improved either. We had one of the worst thunderstorms ever experienced and it rained so hard all the boats in the harbour sank and birds drowned sitting in the tress. The ground was littered with them. Fantastic waterspout, too. Looks a lot more built up now in your video.
Hi Maxime!! Congratulations, you won the DEFI Shirt. Can you leave me your e-mail address here, so I can reach out? Otherwise send me a mail to TH-cam@nicoprien.de with a screenshot to proof this is your account.
Super video Nico, and what a beautiful place Malta is glad to call it home. Windsurfers are welcome anytime of course🤙. Would appreciate the shirt😉 cu soon
Wow Nico, that thunderstorm looked massif. Save choice to derig. I would definitely go there, the water looks nice. Hope for you that you're next trip has more of a happy ending.
dang, those shots at 10:00 are honestly addicting to watch. Like i just phase out in front of the screen 😂 still a good video, even if there was no racing.

Thank you very much for letting us take part at your experiences all the time! Always fun to watch 🙏🏼
Hii, I started windsurfing almost a year ago and I’m learning lots of things from you, thanks 👌
Brings back memories of sailing anytime there was wind even with the threat of thunderstorms. Thanks.
You look amazing out there i wish i could windsurf and foil as good as you do ill get there sometime but it will take a whole lot of practice! Hope ill see some more of ur videos soon!

You’ll get there man!
Thank you Nico and Lars! This kind of videos are great as they show the reality of windsurfing in weather changing conditions. This place looks unbeleivable!
Lovely place. Another interesting story, Nico. Great shots Lars. Beautiful stormy sky. Thanks 🤙
Thanks to you I have started windsurfing, I have gone 3 or 4 times now on a big 300L board and hope to one day be able to windsurf really well. your videos inspire me to become better. Thanks!
Nice man!! Keep on going 🙌

Nothing beats a windsurfing roadtrip. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Mine starts in 4 weeks; to the Columbia Gorge in Oregon😎
Gorge! On the bucket list.
Beautiful storm it was and horrifying at once. Derigging on the open sea is something we rarely practice. It could be a sub-topic of an upcoming video...

Great video. Sorry it didn't turn out the way you hoped. Just another reason to go back. Looks like Malta is quite the place to visit for a vacation.

I just want to say that the little pink detail on the underside of the JP foil board with the NP sails looks amazing.
Love watching your video's makes me relive my windsurfing days in the 80's

Terrifying!
Great adventure! The Neilpruts sail might have attracted the bad weather, who knows? Good to see everybody was fine!
Waiting for the wind at home , the video helps to not go that crazy after a week not on the water and having to study for school
I started my 45th season and never sailed in thunder and not going to do so. Safety first. Thank you for the videos.
Your videos are always so exciting to watch I Can't wait for the next one keep it up
Nature wins. Thanks for sharing the story, looks like a wonderful place to visit, windsurfing or not
As always, you provide us with a very entertaining video. thank you so much
24 minutes pure entertainment with a thrill
Great to watch the adventure. Initially, you seemed more scared of the car then of the thunderstorm 😬
You’re doing a good job for the sport and the community! All the best for the future adventures!
Super video and a great story! Thank you for your nice work.
I have been following you for a long time and I love your videos, you are the best 🤙🏄

Awesome Video again. Just wanna go to Malta windsurfing now 😅❤
Awesome! I think your videos hit a sweet spot between great windsurfing shots, travel reports, spot checks and entertainment. I assume you and your team had to put in massive amounts of work. Thanks!
Thanks Manuel!! Much appreciated :)
Spectacular as usual, Nico! The 2024 Neil Pryde and JP color schemes are fantastic.
nice video, I'll try to be there next edition
As always, another nice and good
video thanks Nico.
Everything under control like always! 🤯hope win the lycra , 7 is also my number on the water!
This was one hell of an adventure, just keep going forward!!!
Lovely places to sail. We always get 10 knot gusts to sail over here in Lincolnshire U.K. anything less is unusual.
incredibly good pictures, you definitely made the right decision intuitively. that shows true greatness!
I would love to see more slalom fin shots again =)
Interesting video!! Interesting spot!! Pitty did not work exactly as wanted with crossing to Sardinia !! Thanks
It can be really sketchy with thunderstorms out on the water, I have been in the same situation too and I really enjoyed this video like somany else!
Nice Video thx Nico and Lars

It would be very helpful to make a video on showing how to unrig on emergency situation
Hi Nico! It's Michael Wilson from Malta we met at Gillieru. Can't wait to see you again for part 2!
Was nice to meet you 🤟
Malta, the place were I really got the virus of windsurfing at the age of 12……..
Been there several times and it is such a nice country and also very good for windsurfing.
I learned windsurfing there at the Melliehabay at the beach side.
Looking forward to your next video!
If you get the chance Nico, you absolutely HAVE TO visit the Blue Grotto whilst you are in Malta - "beautiful" doesn't even BEGIN to describe it!!!
Wise decision to stop for safety reasons, you set the right example to all the windsurfers out there
Hi, nices Video. Also gleichmäßiger wind etc.
Thanks for you high qual and with huge effort producing Video, great cam views🤙🏼
That was really fun to watch. Interesting to see episode.
Awesome Video! I will be foiling sailing in Italy this summer!
Cool video and great views of Malta. The island looks pretty cool. Awesome action clips and great editing from Lars well done. I enjoyed it
Difícil y engorroso 😂 Good job and nice video!
Been there when this kind of storm hits you and broke my head so glad you derigged so early, good call. Awesome video and nice to see that not everywhere you go is nice weather
Netter Trip! Wäre mal eine Reise wert!
10:20 look at that smile. Thats what windsurfing is all about
Great to see you take on this challenge.
What kind of storage bar system do you use in your own van? Looks practical !
Lycra gang gang - - great video, sad to see the weather didn't cooperate for the race
There is a windsurf rental in Mellieha bay. Nice spot
I have watched the vid with my kids, my smallest daughter loves your colorful pink Gear, my son tries windsurfing with me soon (6 years). He loves sailing too 🎉
It is great to see your joy on the water ❤ very heavy with the bad weather and IT was great that you have first thought of your safety! Great man!
Awesome to hear Martin!!
I've been watching your channel for 3 years and you were the main reason I didn't go to kitesurfing.
Love your channel and I'm very excited for the opportunity to win(I Hope so) your shirt.
Very good video like all your other videos

Another great video👏 its always a joy when you upload. Thank you for sharing this experience🤩
Love to goto Malta one day to explore the Island and do some windsurfing, only hopefully with better weather.
🤙

I love the old town of Malta! I also have had many weather events while foiling. Nice choice (guter Idee) to call the race.
Great vid. Malta looks amazing. Bucket list for sure.
What a strong experience!! Both terrifying and beautiful
Great videos! Always almost like a short documentation. Sick footage and great editing!
Another great place and another great video - Sailing in Le Defi would be great but may be too far to travel from New Zealand, but the Le Defi vest would be awesome ;-)
You should visit New Zealand sometime!
Tremendo lugar !! Que lastima esas condiciones. Saludos desde Argentina.

Malte lokks Impressive and very beautiful!!
I just come back from Crete, nice island too for windsurfing
Went to Malta once many years ago. Never again and won't bore you with the details but it wasn't a nice place to visit. Looks like the rental cars haven't improved either.

Oh noo!!
Every time it rained we had to empty the rental car as it would fill up with water.
You are the best inspiration for me to be a bether windsurfer.
Great sharing and great give away. Do give the lycra to one of the young guns 👍🏄🏼♀️
Are you using a back or base harness?
Wieder ein super schönes, informatives Video 🎉❤
Die Aufnahmen von allerfeinster Qualität 👏😎👌
Perfekte Werbung für das schöne Hobby Windsurfen 😎🤙
Amazing, great quality as always👌
Amazing video and fantastic trip! 🤙
The thunderstorm looked crazy😱
This video makes you want to come and sail in Malta, thank you Nico !!
Hi Maxime!! Congratulations, you won the DEFI Shirt.
Can you leave me your e-mail address here, so I can reach out?
Otherwise send me a mail to TH-cam@nicoprien.de with a screenshot to proof this is your account.
When it rains, it usually sucks! The wind either drops dead or gets gusty and turns towards a real storm! 😅
Nice one Nico, thanks for the insight!🤙🏻
Very unlucky with the weather! Pity I wasn’t in Malta that weekend, would have love to drone film the event! Maybe next time!
Next time!
Pickup truck was the best part of the video 👍
Malta is lovely! Such dark sky is …. Bad luck and dangerus 😀😀
dang, those shots at 10:00 are honestly addicting to watch. Like i just phase out in front of the screen 😂
