Since it was one of my first anime back in middle school, it'll be pretty interesting to eventually rewatch it and see how much I recognize now that I'm much more familiar with the medium. I've also gained a much greater appreciation for kirara-kei and KyoAni's style since then.
The nostalgia hits back with this one hard, it's so nostalgic and equally acts as a time capsule and reminder of anime culture as a whole. Plus, there are still lots of stuff western fans don't catch due to the different mainstream medias here compared to the East, so it's endlessly rewatchable
Lucky Star is my go-to show for when I get sick and stay home from work. Nice bowl of soup, glass of orange juice, wrap myself up in a comforter and turn on Lucky Star. Even when I’m super miserable, it manages to make me feel better. I’ve seen this show more than a dozen times and I’ll watch it again sometime soon, I’m sure.
@@riamuikasamastreamarchive4438 Its got the same general vibe. I think its one of those animes that are best watched while you're in a warm blanket indoors and its pouring outside lol
Making Dates refrences is part of the point of being an Otaku, part of the Joker with Konota is the very concept of her being into so much stuff older then she is. That Lucky Star itself will be older then people in Japanese High School soon will be the perfect irony. I first watched it in 2016, BEFORE I watched Haruhi and loved it.
I was born in 2007 and I found out about this anime recently. Yesterday I watched the last episode and I must admit that I love this anime. I haven't had this much fun with any show in a very long time. Jokes and comedy are my type. And I'm very sad knowing that I've already watched the last episode. Lucky Star is one of the best anime I've ever watched, I'd even say one of the best things I've ever watched. I have already recommended it to many people. I can also say that this anime is also nostalgic for me. I played similar games on similar hardware to Kona. Maybe a little newer, but not that much. I feel nostalgic thinking about the early 2010s and late 2000s. Maybe I haven't been an anime freak since I was a child, but I'm catching up. I just freaking loved Lucky Star and Im going to rewatch it many times
if you want more lucky star content, there's always the manga and the games, especially lucky star ryouou gakuen outousai, which is quite literally 4 times the lenght of the anime
This is my definitive comfort watch, along with K-on. I’m glad people still remember and talk about this show as a testament to otaku culture. I’ve been going back and watching the episodes for the chill vibes and am amazed how much still rings true with anime fans today, just with different context. Thank you.
Finding Lucky star was probably one of the best things that's happened to me, may sound dramatic but literally. I found it just about a week after a big depressive episode had died down, and God when I found that it's like the light switch in my body just got flipped right on. One reason I was so depressed was because I didn't know who I was, I felt empty and all I knew was things I was into and how I think and wanna react to certain things. But when I found lucky star I found myself relating to Konata with quite a lot of stuff, if anything most. I feel like I finally realized who I was, because knowing who SHE is and finding that I see myself in her a lot, made me find, or at least get an idea of who I was/am. And the show overall is just so cute, funny and it makes me happy. I've rewatched it probably 8 times as of right now lmao. Even though I was born a few years *after* it's release, I just LOVE IT. I had been thinking this before I found it, but after finding it I couldn't help but wish I could've been a teenager in 2006-7 too lolol
Completely agree. I re-watched Lucky Star earlier this year after no having seen it in just about 10 years and I have to say it really holds up well as a kind-of "period piece" and satire. I watched it with some friends who are new to the hobby and they all loved it; its such a comfy and fun show.
I finished watching Lucky Star my first time today and it is a masterpiece. I don’t know any other anime’s from that age but some of the actions in the show were looking very unique. I just love how the show works every time I watched a 24 minute episode I needed a whole hour for it cause I jumped 10 seconds back so often. The credits are special too because the producer does funny things every time. I like how they speak about normal topics which gets mentioned later in the episode again, even if that is the reason for the first 3 episodes being a little bit boring. But the entertainment increases in the second half especially episode 15, 22, 23, 24 which had so much emotion in it. I have only one problem with the show and that is the last episode, I don’t like it that they only showed the last rehearsal and not the performance in front of all the people (explaining why would take too long).
As someone who watched Lucky Star as one of their first animes, I actually never got a lot of the references, but the show has stuck with me all this time for its tonal contrast and remains one of my favorite anime of all time. What do I mean by tonal contrast? The characters are vibrantly designed, and their theme song seems like something you'd expect of a magical girl anime. But asides from select scenes, most of the tone of the show feels more realistic in nature. Like these are conversations you could see yourself having with actual friends and real people.

Preach. I still watch "Ryu the Cave Boy" and "Silver Fang" and the like. If you enjoy it, you enjoy it.Period. Look at the past like possible buried treasure instead. Its fun. And though it may not be the first time ANYONE has seen it, ITS THE FIRST TIME YOU! HAVE SEEN IT! Speaking of which, this is now on my "to watch" list. After about 103 episodes of "Mysterious personal shopper" (chinese drama and guilty soapy pleasure), some ongoing thai and korean bl:s, "Smile to life"(chinese), some shows Avenue X tipped me of to,that is. But Im def gonna watch it. Do you like "Bofuri" and "Ascendance of a bookworm" ??
Nice to see your return is talking about this subject, my all time favorite 1:02 also Star and Azumangah were very popular YTP material when youtube was at its 1st peak In 2007/2008 1:50 the Saw 3 reference I lost my shit 😆
It's an interesting take, and one that I have to agree, while the anime references might be dated, it can also help newer people to get into them or to see the jokes as a whole instead of just references. And soemthing from 2007 can help some people to see who thing were back then. I do welcome lucky star being brought back, it will bring konata into the status symbol of the otaku as she always was, even if the series was frozen, though that stop is also claimed by tomoko from watamote. As for the haruhi part, it's not dead, but it's a shell of what it once was, i mean, sure, it does keep reminding about it, but it's not the hot thing it was once compared to other anime that do bring a lot of trending topics on twitter. good video btw THAT LAST LINE THO
I see Lucky Star as more of a time capsule of how the otaku community was like back in it's era that it has aired. so it is good to see for that and the comedy is still good.
I'm a relatively new anime fan. I don't get all the references, I don't think I even get most of them. But I still understand them. Seeing the shop owners go all above and beyond trying to mind-game Legendary Girl A into buying something is always entertaining, even when I can't name the specific media that it took inspiration from. Seeing them so casually talk about stuff that I've passively heard about through general cultural osmosis makes the show feel less like an Anime, and more like a window into the lives of some fellow Otaku. I was Lucky enough (badumtss) to watch this show right after Haruhi. Not sure why, but Gigguk's video on Moe really made me want to try out Anime watching as more than a once-in-a-while thing. I've seen only a handful of shows, and a few manga. A far cry from the dozens and dozens I've heard self-proclaimed "Casual Weebs" having watched. So seeing so many common references to something I'd only just got off watching makes it feel even more rewarding. I'm a huge fan. Even considering changing my Red Toon Link pfp to Konata. and I've kept this picture for over ten years now.
I will never understand people who say that Lucky Star aged poorly cuz it's still funny today. I didn't watch Lucky Star for the first time until this year and it still very much resonates with me now as someone who didn't experience) the show when it was at its peak popularity. Also, it should be noted that a lot of the references Konata makes early in the anime are called out for being obscure and ancient for 2007.
What I love about the show is that there is a ton of meme potential with this show. I've been making lucky star shit posts for the last four years and surprisingly the show still has an audience young and old. The anime references really made me enjoy the show... this show had JoJo references before "Is that a JoJo reference" became a meme.
They would be stupid not to make another season, especially with how Azumanga Diaoh is currently popular. Lucky Star will be popular next for sure. Also it’s not like they can’t, the girls could go to college and thats the end (?)
as someone who was born in 2008, I can safely say that the anime (to me at least) is still relatable despite it being made in the 2000s (Lucky star is my favorite anime so-)
I had never heard of Lucky Star until about a week ago, so I tried to watch it. I honestly didn't understand it. The show gave me serious whiplash. The way scenes drifted between disconnected mundane topics, it felt schizophrenic, and kinda gave me a headache. Perhaps this anime is a simulation of what it's like to be inside the head of a 14 year old ADHD iPad kid. I don't necessarily think the anime was bad, there's definitely something unique about it, I think I just didn't understand it. Having no nostalgia and watching it completely out of context, a confounding experience.
Nah, lucky star will always slap. You could release this anime NOW with no references changed and people would get most of the jokes/refrences. Pop team epic refences arguably more dated source material and is a great comedy series to
Lucky star is a timeless classic and it is always fun to rewatch it to see what I miss out on certain references

Lucky star isn't that fun the loud compress music on the show make it hard to watch.
No matter how old it gets, Lucky Star will always be delightful.

And times that are broken can often be one again

But I'm out of my head when you're not around
You're out of touch
I'm out of time (time)
But I'm out of my head when you're not around
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Reaching out for something to hold
Looking for a love where the climate is cold
Manic moves and drowsy dreams
Or living in the middle between the two extremes
Smoking guns hot to the touch
Would cool down if we didn't use them so much, yeah
We're soul alone
And soul really matters to me
Too much
