Edited to remove my being misinformed: I just wanted to say, it is clear that this team spends a lot of time editing and choosing clips for your videos, and your effort does not go unnoticed. Well done, all.
I also wanna add, that it's incredibly hard to talk 20 minutes of text without mispelling once ( I get it, it's not a one-take, but he's reading/talking rather fast, understandable and eloquent) Kudo's for that, really.
So, I loved how informative the video was, but what I want to comment on is the audio editing. The music choices were fantastic, and added a really nice base for you to speak over, while adding a subtle sense of time scales with careful choice of famous and well aged songs of the time (eurythmics sweet dreams was a perfect choice), or correlating effectively with the theme of what you're saying. Honestly the only reason I even started noticing was for one flaw that stuck out to me. And that was the sudden and abrupt shift into new order at 4.28. It was another great pick for a song, but the sudden shift in tempo (I think that's the correct term) stood out a bit too much. As I said, I'm glad it did, as I focused more on the audio editing after that, and was actually blown away at how thought out your picks were, and just how well executed the rest of it was. It really is a testament to just how far you've grown as a content creator, and just how much effort you put into your craft. I could possibly be the only comment out of the 3.5 thousand comments you've received so far to have noticed it, and I know you're almost certainly not going to read this. Just, on the very slim chance you do see this, know that all those little touches you make, they don't go unappreciated.
I think the same: Gigguk, your music editing is just fantastic. Almost every serious video you make (even one like the above, with nothing sad in it) leaves me in tears, because everything is complimented so well by the soundtrack.
There was a running joke for a while in the anime portion of my friend group where we would ask, "Why are all of Gigguk's videos actually made of gold?" I feel your comment helps answer that a bit. :p It's the clear passion and effort put into his videos that allows me to not mind how long it takes for a new video to come out. It also keeps his older videos rewatchable since even his old junk has better quality than most current content on other channels.
I hadn't watched (or even heard of) K-on until you mentioned it in this video. So I paused mid video, watched season 1, season 2, and the movie over the course of about a week and a half, and now I'm back. Just finished watching the movie like 5 minutes ago and I remembered that this video exists and that i haven't finished it. Now enlightened, I'll continue with the rest of this video.

+Tangle Wouldn't call that an evolution since these kind of characters are meant to be idealized. Or in other words better than the real thing. If it's like the real thing it loses it's value. This was a very interesting video, I wondered where the stereotypical "anime girl" came from. It probably isn't a good thing that this moe has infected basically all anime to the point that it is what it is most well known for. That being said, I am a bit conflicted since I do enjoy cute girls even though it makes me respect the medium less.

Fite me vruh, Moe is just a type of draw-style; art-style, that depicts the characters to have more young looking traits in comparison to the looks of a human baby: Round, squishy, soft, and bobbly, because genetically and biologically speaking, the younger and smoother it looks, the healthier to accomplish the act of reproduction for the survival of the species.

Someone that looks TOO childlike definitely isn't in any way signalling that they're healthier and biologically better at reproduction... That applies if you're comparing a 16 year old to a 40 year old, but it falls apart when you're comparing someone that looks 16 to someone that looks 8... So uhh... Bit of a stretch that this is the actual basis of it... Child-like features are the definition of cute though. And what does it mean for something to be cute? Well, it triggers protective, parental instincts. - this thing is cute, therefore it needs protection and looking after. Certainly messing with our instincts, but probably not the ones you're thinking of..
@@omarallama934 just search Kyoto Animation fire, basically last year the offices of Kyoto Animation where attacked by a man who started burning the facilities and the employees, several people, a lot of them recognized directors, animators and other important roles died and many more where injured. This caused a great damage not only for the victims but for the studio as a lot of material and talent was lost during the this tragedy. Luckly a fundraiser was set to help them and it was extremely succesful. Despite the tragedy they seem to be doing well but the damage will never be undone. I remeber when I woke up and saw this news, it was devastating, something that seemed out of a movie in the worst possible way and its probably the worst thibg that ever happened to the anime industry.

K-On was the first series in this genre where I said "Oh okay, I get it now.". That being said I don't care for the genre really, but there are some series here and there that pop up where I enjoy. Primarily series created by KoAni because the way they handle jokes, expressions, sound, and visual design.
yup, had a kind of similar moment there, so I know exactly what you're talking about. Saw K-on, and was suddenly like 'oh, I guess some people just enjoy trash'....
KyoAni knows what they're doing; they characters always look good, the animation is stunning, details like soundtrack are always well thought and the plots keep it simple and cohesive... meanwhile we have almost everybody else putting cute girls and expeting it do be enough to work with the audience.
I can't believe I actually cried rewatching this year and a half old video. Dammit. Dammit I love Kyoani. I miss them. I need them back, and I'll rewatch K-on and Dragon Maid countless times as I wait for them to return. Long live moe.

As an avid K-On fan, I think the appeal in the show really hinges on you falling into that moe pit and loving your new waifus. You get hooked on one and then you’re just obsessed with the dynamic. The music only cements this, as having a catchy song to listen to on repeat keeps you thinking of the best moments of the show and how amazing these precious girls are.
There's still a lot of amazing stuff out there. While most newer anime is god awful, there are 30 years of amazing content to search through, and many gems waiting to be found. You just need to know where to look

If moe is literally the only thing the show has to offer, I don't want any of it. If you can remove the moe and still have a good show, that stands on its own two legs, fine. Yes, this also applies to shows with casts full of cute guys, too. It sucks that there are so many shows these days that are exactly that.
Also, characters from shows that were never intended to be moe in the first place are always way more moe than characters from cute girls/guys doing cute things shows.
But if you remove them away from some of it those shows they do fall apart because that's an important part of the narrative. Sweetness and Lightning would be nothing without the sweetness as it tries to use its Moé to help it's naritive of father-daughter bonding.
It's all a matter of taste. For some moe is the ice cream, for others it's just the sprinkles. For yet others I suppose moe is like Marmite and has no place on their sundae. For me: I'll watch K-ON before I watch Beck (but they're both on my back log).

Yuwen T If by "inspired" you mean it's about something no sane person would think is a good idea and thus is technically more risky then yeah I guess. Shonen is almost always very concept driven, as opposed to Moe which is driven by cheep production and weirdos.
Not gonna lie, the advent of Moe - become more cutesy, more gimmicky, more whatever else fits in the description - is what kinda drove me away from anime for a while. Sure, at first it was just some cute fuzzy feeling characters in random shows, but over the years it become much... less subtle and more of a targeted action. I can understand cute girl shows. They aren't for me, but I can see why people might like them. The thing that started to annoy me, though, was the seeping into other genres as it became less subtle. In a primarily action-based show, the "moe moments" feel jarringly out of place for me and just feel like cheap fanservice. Along with the fact that my later school years I spent overwhelmed by work, this drove me out of anime completely. Now that I'm working and have much more free time, I'm slowly coming back. I watch much less shows than before and actually returned to my roots in shounen action shows, but I do watch. I just try to ignore the more obvious moe moments and/or turn to shows that don't ride on it completely.
Steins;Gate and Guren Lagann are my favorites from before my break. For Hero Aca, I read the manga and pretty much got back into anime when I heard it got an adaptation, so that's definitely high on the list. I also quite like Attack on Titan, but that's nowhere as high up as the rest of them.
That's one I never got around to. The topics mentioned in its plot summary scared me away when I was younger (even Steins;Gate was pretty hard stuff to swallow when I first watched it, despite the humor). That said, by now I grew a much thicker skin in that regard, so it'd probably be a good time to rewatch some of the shows I skipped back then.
BanG Dream has a similar theme or moral lesson to teach that the Love Live series covers. The only main difference I would say between BanG Dream and other popular idol animes is that BanG Dream tries to give multiple bands some representation, even though the plot or storyline is mainly focused on one main band. For example, S2 of BanG Dream that just finished airing. I will say getting to listen to multiple bands within a season is a bit more refreshing and enjoyable rather than hearing one group perform and sing for most of the season with the occasional rival group either collaborating (for example, Saint Snow and Aqours in S2 of LLS), or competing with the main group of an idol anime series. I kinda got tired of pop idol anime because the overall plot, character designs, and style of music kinda got bored for me after a while. Anyways, I would say give BanG Dream a try, but since the whole idol anime industry has such a big influence it is really hard for even an anime like BanG Dream in the modern day to not have some similarities to shows like the Love Live series, Idolmaster, and etc.
Not long ago,when I read Gobling Slayer latest translated volumes, I discovered something for myself: Sometimes,it's nice to have a company of only guys doing guy things in anime. After all romance that happened in the latest volume, the scene, where guys are in a bar drinking alcohol,joking and reminiscing about the past, was too refreshing.
I like cute characters but moe has infected anime culture to an annoying degree. You literally can't go anywhere in the fandom without finding people creepily obsessing over big eyed infantile anime girls. Even Steam is now filled with cancerous ecchi moe VN shit with a huge community backing it. Its like, wow. This is what anime is now huh? I always laughed at the idea of "growing out of anime" but now I understand. Anime truly is trash and so are we.
While 90% of new anime is pretty garbage, there are still good ones coming out. Koi ha Ameagari no You ni comes to mind as a really good anime that came out recently. But even if nothing good ever comes out again, there are like 30 years of anime to dig through, and tons of gems hidden if you know where to look. Don't give up!
So you mean, it was horrendous to one demographic of people, yet didn't really affect the rest of the world, and now air travel is more mainstream then ever before?? Then yes. Probably the same way. TBH I've been invested in anime for about 3 decades... The quality of animation/art/storytelling in anime is getting better and better. You get more pure trash shows yes, but at the same time, you get a lot more quality shows because of the in flux of money into the industry. In essence; the more dirt you shovel, the more diamonds you'll find.
Hello :) Discovered the channel recently and got caught up to anime scene quite a bit, so thanks for that. BUT! Your music editing and lineup is amazing. I can't express how well it's done. Does not help that it also matches my taste in music quite well. But I have to admit - the music stands out so hard that it made me watch more videos and get on board with the channel. Keep up the good work! And keep the great music flowing. And yes, this video specifically made me write the comment - it got me in the feels, man!
Gotta mention this. Your editing is the greatest. You have a huge variety of anime clips and with exclusion of examples, there are few clips that are from the same shows. Additionally your music is not only music that everyone knows, but it pulls you through the whole episode without disrupting thought. I think it’s a good choice especially for viewer retention!

So, I loved how informative the video was, but what I want to comment on is the audio editing. The music choices were fantastic, and added a really nice base for you to speak over, while adding a subtle sense of time scales with careful choice of famous and well aged songs of the time (eurythmics sweet dreams was a perfect choice), or correlating effectively with the theme of what you're saying. Honestly the only reason I even started noticing was for one flaw that stuck out to me. And that was the sudden and abrupt shift into new order at 4.28. It was another great pick for a song, but the sudden shift in tempo (I think that's the correct term) stood out a bit too much.
As I said, I'm glad it did, as I focused more on the audio editing after that, and was actually blown away at how thought out your picks were, and just how well executed the rest of it was. It really is a testament to just how far you've grown as a content creator, and just how much effort you put into your craft. I could possibly be the only comment out of the 3.5 thousand comments you've received so far to have noticed it, and I know you're almost certainly not going to read this. Just, on the very slim chance you do see this, know that all those little touches you make, they don't go unappreciated.

I think the same: Gigguk, your music editing is just fantastic. Almost every serious video you make (even one like the above, with nothing sad in it) leaves me in tears, because everything is complimented so well by the soundtrack.
There was a running joke for a while in the anime portion of my friend group where we would ask, "Why are all of Gigguk's videos actually made of gold?"

It's the clear passion and effort put into his videos that allows me to not mind how long it takes for a new video to come out. It also keeps his older videos rewatchable since even his old junk has better quality than most current content on other channels.

@@omarallama934 just search Kyoto Animation fire, basically last year the offices of Kyoto Animation where attacked by a man who started burning the facilities and the employees, several people, a lot of them recognized directors, animators and other important roles died and many more where injured. This caused a great damage not only for the victims but for the studio as a lot of material and talent was lost during the this tragedy. Luckly a fundraiser was set to help them and it was extremely succesful. Despite the tragedy they seem to be doing well but the damage will never be undone. I remeber when I woke up and saw this news, it was devastating, something that seemed out of a movie in the worst possible way and its probably the worst thibg that ever happened to the anime industry.
Why is it every time at the end of a video, you give me this nostalgic feeling. My heart just drops and I can’t help but smile!! It’s like the end of a magnificent journey, that you didn’t want to end. The power of Anime fused with your story telling is deadly... you could rule the world with that power!!

KyoAni knows what they're doing; they characters always look good, the animation is stunning, details like soundtrack are always well thought and the plots keep it simple and cohesive... meanwhile we have almost everybody else putting cute girls and expeting it do be enough to work with the audience.

If moe is literally the only thing the show has to offer, I don't want any of it. If you can remove the moe and still have a good show, that stands on its own two legs, fine. Yes, this also applies to shows with casts full of cute guys, too.
It sucks that there are so many shows these days that are exactly that.
I feel the same way about tournament arcs and cooking battles. Takes all kinds I suppose.
Also, characters from shows that were never intended to be moe in the first place are always way more moe than characters from cute girls/guys doing cute things shows.
But if you remove them away from some of it those shows they do fall apart because that's an important part of the narrative. Sweetness and Lightning would be nothing without the sweetness as it tries to use its Moé to help it's naritive of father-daughter bonding.
I grew up around moe lovers, but I never understood their commitment to it as a trope without substance.
It's all a matter of taste. For some moe is the ice cream, for others it's just the sprinkles. For yet others I suppose moe is like Marmite and has no place on their sundae. For me: I'll watch K-ON before I watch Beck (but they're both on my back log).

K-ON was probably more inspiring than most of the shonen anime out there, I decided to learn drums after watching that show and never regret doing so
Yuwen T If by "inspired" you mean it's about something no sane person would think is a good idea and thus is technically more risky then yeah I guess. Shonen is almost always very concept driven, as opposed to Moe which is driven by cheep production and weirdos.

Not gonna lie, the advent of Moe - become more cutesy, more gimmicky, more whatever else fits in the description - is what kinda drove me away from anime for a while. Sure, at first it was just some cute fuzzy feeling characters in random shows, but over the years it become much... less subtle and more of a targeted action. I can understand cute girl shows. They aren't for me, but I can see why people might like them. The thing that started to annoy me, though, was the seeping into other genres as it became less subtle. In a primarily action-based show, the "moe moments" feel jarringly out of place for me and just feel like cheap fanservice. Along with the fact that my later school years I spent overwhelmed by work, this drove me out of anime completely.
Now that I'm working and have much more free time, I'm slowly coming back. I watch much less shows than before and actually returned to my roots in shounen action shows, but I do watch. I just try to ignore the more obvious moe moments and/or turn to shows that don't ride on it completely.

Steins;Gate and Guren Lagann are my favorites from before my break. For Hero Aca, I read the manga and pretty much got back into anime when I heard it got an adaptation, so that's definitely high on the list. I also quite like Attack on Titan, but that's nowhere as high up as the rest of them.

That's one I never got around to. The topics mentioned in its plot summary scared me away when I was younger (even Steins;Gate was pretty hard stuff to swallow when I first watched it, despite the humor). That said, by now I grew a much thicker skin in that regard, so it'd probably be a good time to rewatch some of the shows I skipped back then.
I watched k-on cause it was about music. we need more shows about music, that aren't about pop idols
Hey, BanG Dream exists.
(Sidenote: I haven't watched that show; I just knew this from the top of my head.)
BanG Dream has a similar theme or moral lesson to teach that the Love Live series covers. The only main difference I would say between BanG Dream and other popular idol animes is that BanG Dream tries to give multiple bands some representation, even though the plot or storyline is mainly focused on one main band. For example, S2 of BanG Dream that just finished airing. I will say getting to listen to multiple bands within a season is a bit more refreshing and enjoyable rather than hearing one group perform and sing for most of the season with the occasional rival group either collaborating (for example, Saint Snow and Aqours in S2 of LLS), or competing with the main group of an idol anime series.
I kinda got tired of pop idol anime because the overall plot, character designs, and style of music kinda got bored for me after a while.
Anyways, I would say give BanG Dream a try, but since the whole idol anime industry has such a big influence it is really hard for even an anime like BanG Dream in the modern day to not have some similarities to shows like the Love Live series, Idolmaster, and etc.
K-ON! is definitely my favorite show. I'm getting a Yui Hirasawa tattoo on my right arm next week.

Not long ago,when I read Gobling Slayer latest translated volumes, I discovered something for myself: Sometimes,it's nice to have a company of only guys doing guy things in anime. After all romance that happened in the latest volume, the scene, where guys are in a bar drinking alcohol,joking and reminiscing about the past, was too refreshing.

I notice a trend when an anime about guys doing guy things sells well, there's always another anime but with the gender swapped.
I like cute characters but moe has infected anime culture to an annoying degree. You literally can't go anywhere in the fandom without finding people creepily obsessing over big eyed infantile anime girls. Even Steam is now filled with cancerous ecchi moe VN shit with a huge community backing it. Its like, wow. This is what anime is now huh? I always laughed at the idea of "growing out of anime" but now I understand. Anime truly is trash and so are we.

While 90% of new anime is pretty garbage, there are still good ones coming out. Koi ha Ameagari no You ni comes to mind as a really good anime that came out recently. But even if nothing good ever comes out again, there are like 30 years of anime to dig through, and tons of gems hidden if you know where to look. Don't give up!

TBH I've been invested in anime for about 3 decades... The quality of animation/art/storytelling in anime is getting better and better. You get more pure trash shows yes, but at the same time, you get a lot more quality shows because of the in flux of money into the industry. In essence; the more dirt you shovel, the more diamonds you'll find.

BUT!
Your music editing and lineup is amazing. I can't express how well it's done. Does not help that it also matches my taste in music quite well. But I have to admit - the music stands out so hard that it made me watch more videos and get on board with the channel.

Gotta mention this. Your editing is the greatest. You have a huge variety of anime clips and with exclusion of examples, there are few clips that are from the same shows. Additionally your music is not only music that everyone knows, but it pulls you through the whole episode without disrupting thought. I think it’s a good choice especially for viewer retention!
