He got nearly a hundred years old, and made music untill few years before his demise. Moreover, I recognised more than one hit, that has been covered by other artist later, and so obtained longevity, at least. This goes f.ex. for “Michelle” that has gained second chance by the Beatles.
I am 66 years old and will turn 67 during the summer. I love these 1 hit wonders and grew up listening to them on the radio. These songs may have been 1 hit wonders, but they are Classics. I loved Sunny, Just One Look, Do You Love Me, Love Is Blue, San Francisc(Flowers In Their Hair), In the Year of 2525, Monster Mash, Boy From New York City, Na Na Na Na, kiss him good bye. All these 1 hit wonders are amazing.
Growing up in the Metro Detroit area we had WKNR (Keener 13) and CKLW in Windsor, Ontario pumping out all those one hit wonders on the AM airwaves. Mom bought my first 45, 'Keep on Dancing' by the Gentrys, then 'Oh Pretty Woman' by Roy Orbison and I started filling my little carry case box of 45's which I still have to this day. 😊

These are Icon one hit wonders that will live on 4ever--was 12 years old when I heard these songs and still remember them and sing to them at 76...keep on rockin and rollin!!
It's crazy how many of these are actually 1hit wonders, and are still playing now. Rather it be in movies set in that era, or in commercials, for the past 40years. Not all 1hw are completely forgotten. I'm shocked at how many I knew, and I didn't exist yet in that decade.😱

I was OBSESSED with “Oldies” (now the oldies station plays music from when I was born and it freaks me out, but that’s another story). I used to hear all of these songs and I loved them so much. I was born in 1970, but there is something about music from the 60’s that speaks to my soul. I always said my favorite music decades were the 60’s and 80’s. I had so many of these gems on 45 and I played the hell out of them growing up. Oldies radio was always my go to along with newer music. Love this stuff. This was a great list and I enjoyed it. Always impressed with these "one hit wonders" -- to have one massive hit is an amazing achievement! That said, I'll never understand why Spiral Staircase didn't have more chart toppers. "More Today than Yesterday" is such an incredible song and performance.
I remember almost all of them, and am pleased that some are still on air. In fact, I've played many of them and in at least one case played several times at gigs in the band of one of them.

Born in the mid-50s, I grew up with these (& a *lot* more like them) in the 60s & 70s. What a wonderful time to be young! I'm in my mid/late 60s now but still listen to this era's music- it'll never grow old.

Monster Mash was No 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1962. In the UK the BBC banned it as "too morbid". But it was re-released in the UK in 1973 and reached No 3 on the charts (this time not banned). So it was a one hit wonder in the 60s - and the 70s!
Due to the growing popularity of streaming "Halloween-related" songs around October 31, "Monster Mash" hit the Billboard Hot 100 again in October 2021 @ #37 and also made the Canadian and UK charts. Looking forward to it coming back in October 2022! 🎃
Barry McGuire became a born again Christian and is still popular in Christian circles. He continued to write beautiful, amazing music. His communion song is the best communion song ever, in my opinion. He's a great comedian too. I wrote an email to him some years back and he took the time to reply. He's a real gem. Oh yes, his album, Bull frogs and butterflies is still a favourite children's collection of songs in Sunday schools and parochial schools throughout the anglophone world.
David McWilliams had at least 2 other big hits with " the Stranger" and " Can I get there by Candle Light" Part of the Lemon Pipers had a world wide smash hit as Ram Jam with " Black Betty:

My Spanish is rusty. But roughly translated I think this says that some of these songs have become (han vuelto = have turned 🤔) classics as cover versions performed by other groups/singers. Beautiful (literally, hermoso = handsome) video. Edit: looked it up and "han vuelto" = they have returned. So essentially the sentiment is that the songs have been rejuvenated and kept alive through the efforts of artists other than the original performers. There's nothing wrong with a good cover version, imho.

Back in the late 90s I tried telling a coworker that the version of I Think We're Alone Now that was playing on the radio was a cover. And when I tried telling her that it was originally Tommy James & the Shondells she couldn't wait to cut me off and rudely, almost angrily stated "I don't care!" It's disgusting. Throughout all my kids' lives whenever there was an opportunity to introduce a particular song to my kids in a way that I could relate to something they were already interested in I didn't let those teachable moments go to waste. There have been a number of times when they recognized the song or the artist but didn't realize what was significant about it. For example, my oldest daughter couldn't pin any memories of anything to Captain and Tenille until I played the song Do That To Me One More Time, or when my oldest son didn't care about the Bee Gees until I told him that they were responsible for the song More Than A Woman in the movie Short Circuit. Or the time I played For The Longest Time and he, already being a Billy Joel fan, realized that he didn't hate doo wop as much as he thought he did. And just within the last year he took the initiative to send me a link to a recording of Strange Fruit. If it doesn't melt your heart to know that a 20 something in this day and age would give two shits about Billie Holiday you might want to check to make sure that you're even human. It's the greatest feeling in the world when you can actually get them to take a minute to care. It's the best, and maybe the only, way to keep the music alive. Edit: Sorry for the long rant. Edit 2: Accidentally wrote Crimson and Clover instead of I Think We're Alone Now. Please don't hate me too much. 😳😉

I was a teen in the 60's, and wow these bring back some great memories. John Fred and the playboys were from Baton Rouge, and I got to watch them perform a lot.
Wonderful memories. Some of these songs were covered by others, many by British sixties beat bands and others by seventies and eighties British acts, and others too. A good song is forever. 🎶😄
Including Little Eva, whose "Locomotion" became a hit all over again a decade later for Grand Funk Railroad. Also a decade later the woman she babysat for, Carole King, would become a superstar in her own right, thus joining the likes if Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson and John Denver among those who stepped out into the spotlight after major success as songwriters for other acts.
The good thing about this video,I remember most of them. Plus you had shows,like Hullabaloo, Shingdig,American Bandstand, Midnight Special, Ed Sullivan and AM radio. I am glad my parents like music, sometimes we would watch those shows together. Anybody remember Ted Mack Amateur Hour? I listen to music from AtoZ period.,no matter what genre. I love gifted singers, musicians, song writers and the people who knew talent. This was a good one.

The Brooklyn Bridge’s lead singer, Johnny Maestro, had lots of hits with the Crests. Barry McGuire went on to be quite successful in contemporary Christian music.
This takes me way back in time and it's amazing how I remember the lyrics of these songs. They take me back to a simpler time in life, singing these with my sister.

Many of these were really big hits in their day. Please do a part two some day, there are still plenty more. Two of them I never heard, but that was probably a regional thing.
Fun Facts: Bobby Hebb toured with the Beatles in 1966 and at that time "Sunny" was ranked higher than any Beetles' song at the time. The Gentry's had a vocalist by the name Jimmy Hart who later made had some fame in the WWF (WWE now) wrestling as a manager for the likes of Hulk Hogan among others. "Stay" by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs is the shortest length song to reach #1 on Billboard.
I was listening and remember most of these until "Ringo". And that sparked a memory of me with a transistor radio under a blanket in the middle of the night listening to the radio when this song came on and I was mesmerized. I had to look up the song. 1964. I was 9. Thanks for the memory.
I never thought I'd ever hear Barefootin' ever again. I was a kid in the 1980s when my dad used to listen to this stuff on the radio and record onto his cassettes. I was too young to be clear on lyrics and artists. I didn't even know he was saying Barefootin'. I thought he was saying something else. Thank you so much for posting this.
I was born in the late 40's. A lot of these songs I still listen to today thru the internet. A lot better than the crap I hear today. Most of these songs you can actually understand what the words are.
I remember listening to most of these song with my sisters stolen transistor radio under my pillow so no one could hear. Waking up at 2am hearing songs like Rhythm of the Rain, Love Love Me Do, come On Down To My Boat, My Guy, and so many others.

Can't believe Scott McKenzie was a one hit wonder. He should have had way more hits with that voice. I love 60's songs, even though I wasn't born till the end of the 60's. It was by far the best decade for pop music. In fact, I have way more 60's songs in my collection then any other decade since. Quite a few there I've not heard before. A few I liked and never knew who the artist was. Then there's ones I've loved all my life, like San Francisco, in the year 2525, monster mash, grocer Jack, and fire. Grocer Jack always makes me emotional. It always reminds me of my lovely childhood in the 70's, when everything was nice and the world was a lovely place to be in, unlike today's world when everyone is bitching on what others are doing, often for no reason and too many brain dead politicians want to change things for the worst and the world is in a mess financially and morally.

Barry McGuire became a born again Christian and is still popular in Christian circles. He continued to write beautiful, amazing music. His communion song is the best communion song ever, in my opinion. He's a great comedian too. I wrote an email to him some years back and he took the time to reply. He's a real gem. Oh yes, his album, Bull frogs and butterflies is still a favourite children's collection of songs in Sunday schools and parochial schools throughout the anglophone world.

Oh my goodness. I do remember some of these one hit wonders growing up during the 1960s!! Other hits I've completely forgotten about. I love your channel!! It brings back so many memories!! I myself have a huge collection of music I've purchased over the years and in the process of digitalizing it.

My Spanish is rusty. But roughly translated I think this says that some of these songs have become (han vuelto = have turned 🤔) classics as cover versions performed by other groups/singers. Beautiful (literally, hermoso = handsome) video.
Edit: looked it up and "han vuelto" = they have returned. So essentially the sentiment is that the songs have been rejuvenated and kept alive through the efforts of artists other than the original performers. There's nothing wrong with a good cover version, imho.

@@Chechula1000 Unfortunately true. And it's due largely to indifference in my experience. Back in the late 90s I tried telling a coworker that the version of I Think We're Alone Now that was playing on the radio was a cover. And when I tried telling her that it was originally Tommy James & the Shondells she couldn't wait to cut me off and rudely, almost angrily stated "I don't care!" It's disgusting.
Throughout all my kids' lives whenever there was an opportunity to introduce a particular song to my kids in a way that I could relate to something they were already interested in I didn't let those teachable moments go to waste. There have been a number of times when they recognized the song or the artist but didn't realize what was significant about it. For example, my oldest daughter couldn't pin any memories of anything to Captain and Tenille until I played the song Do That To Me One More Time, or when my oldest son didn't care about the Bee Gees until I told him that they were responsible for the song More Than A Woman in the movie Short Circuit. Or the time I played For The Longest Time and he, already being a Billy Joel fan, realized that he didn't hate doo wop as much as he thought he did. And just within the last year he took the initiative to send me a link to a recording of Strange Fruit. If it doesn't melt your heart to know that a 20 something in this day and age would give two shits about Billie Holiday you might want to check to make sure that you're even human. It's the greatest feeling in the world when you can actually get them to take a minute to care. It's the best, and maybe the only, way to keep the music alive.

I was a teen in the 60's, and wow these bring back some great memories. John Fred and the playboys were from Baton Rouge, and I got to watch them perform a lot.
Wonderful memories. Some of these songs were covered by others, many by British sixties beat bands and others by seventies and eighties British acts, and others too. A good song is forever. 🎶😄
Including Little Eva, whose "Locomotion" became a hit all over again a decade later for Grand Funk Railroad. Also a decade later the woman she babysat for, Carole King, would become a superstar in her own right, thus joining the likes if Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson and John Denver among those who stepped out into the spotlight after major success as songwriters for other acts.
The good thing about this video,I remember most of them. Plus you had shows,like Hullabaloo, Shingdig,American Bandstand, Midnight Special, Ed Sullivan and AM radio. I am glad my parents like music, sometimes we would watch those shows together. Anybody remember Ted Mack Amateur Hour? I listen to music from AtoZ period.,no matter what genre. I love gifted singers, musicians, song writers and the people who knew talent. This was a good one.

The Brooklyn Bridge’s lead singer, Johnny Maestro, had lots of hits with the Crests. Barry McGuire went on to be quite successful in contemporary Christian music.

Remember Ketty Lester was in the 70s "Blaxploitation" movie "Blacula" where the late actor William Marshall played the screen's first "Black" vampire and he bit her, I was about 13 when it came out..
Many of these were really big hits in their day. Please do a part two some day, there are still plenty more. Two of them I never heard, but that was probably a regional thing.

I was listening and remember most of these until "Ringo". And that sparked a memory of me with a transistor radio under a blanket in the middle of the night listening to the radio when this song came on and I was mesmerized. I had to look up the song. 1964. I was 9. Thanks for the memory.

I never thought I'd ever hear Barefootin' ever again. I was a kid in the 1980s when my dad used to listen to this stuff on the radio and record onto his cassettes. I was too young to be clear on lyrics and artists. I didn't even know he was saying Barefootin'. I thought he was saying something else. Thank you so much for posting this.
Oh man. In the first of the 60's lived with restricted radio in the PI. Moved to northern va in 66 and found WMOD 98.7. They played all these.

I was born in the late 40's. A lot of these songs I still listen to today thru the internet. A lot better than the crap I hear today. Most of these songs you can actually understand what the words are.
I remember listening to most of these song with my sisters stolen transistor radio under my pillow so no one could hear. Waking up at 2am hearing songs like Rhythm of the Rain, Love Love Me Do, come On Down To My Boat, My Guy, and so many others.
Dang, I remember hearing most all of these over the years. I was a kid in the 60's and a teenager in the 70's. I didnt know they were one hit wonders tho? Many of them were good songs.
Can't believe Scott McKenzie was a one hit wonder. He should have had way more hits with that voice. I love 60's songs, even though I wasn't born till the end of the 60's. It was by far the best decade for pop music. In fact, I have way more 60's songs in my collection then any other decade since. Quite a few there I've not heard before. A few I liked and never knew who the artist was. Then there's ones I've loved all my life, like San Francisco, in the year 2525, monster mash, grocer Jack, and fire. Grocer Jack always makes me emotional. It always reminds me of my lovely childhood in the 70's, when everything was nice and the world was a lovely place to be in, unlike today's world when everyone is bitching on what others are doing, often for no reason and too many brain dead politicians want to change things for the worst and the world is in a mess financially and morally.
