I am constantly AMAZED at the number of young people who are discovering the music of the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's for the first time, their reactions are PRICELESS. There are MANY, MANY, MANY young people out there that actually prefer this music than the music they grew up on and the numbers seem to be growing daily, it is mind boggling. I remember seeing one young couple (Probably in their 30's) and the husband said to his wife (Paraphrasing) baby where was this music when we were growing up I feel cheated because this music is AWESOME, I think we were born too late, and the wife says I agree 100% baby. You hear sentiments like this from young people over and over and over and over, it's GREAT. I was born in the 50's grew up in the 60's and 70's and from all of us that grew up on this INCREDIBLE music to the younger folks, as they say in the Time-Life music commercials, thanks and enjoy the music.
Born 1966 and to only have a cheap battery powered AM transistor radio to listen to these songs was probably the greatest feeling back then. I can still smell the smell the raido had. Born in the 60s lived through 70s ,80s,90s and into 2000s. I'd have to say the 70s were the best years.

@@tats7859 I don't understand what you're saying...did you have a really expensive raido. Hell...mine didn't have an antenna, took a 9 volt battery and it always fell apart not to mention I was never lucky enough to have an ear pice....so ..I really don't know what it is you got lost for.
@billyreddington2469 transistor radios came with the little ear pieces... if you got it in a box, maybe your parents bought yours on a street corner??? Also they all had the little 9 volt battery.
I remember that Cher song. I used to watch the Sonny and Cher show every week with my mom. I was 7. She was pregnant with my sister but she gave me a bath, put me in my pj's and we would walk down to the neighborhood carry out to get snacks. We would talk and I would question her about being pregnant. It was just me and mom. I cherished that time with her.

I miss the early 70’s- I’m almost 65 now and I got to enjoy the 60’s music, from my older siblings, so I got the best of both generations! The music will never be like it was back then- it was so filled with human emotions. Songs today are mostly dead- like the food we eat now. Sorry just my humble opinion. ☺️❤️

The 1970s were the greatest decade for music, the was the peak of many genres like soul, funk, reggae, pop, rock and disco (which I know had a lot of heat but I loved it). Music was a major part of our lives then. REAL music. The vinyl you held in you hand and cherished and pampered. We shared music and records and had STACKS of them to releive our teenage angst or to show off . No internet, real people spun real records at parties. I was born in 1999, and I can undoubtedly say that there’s a huge, almost inexplicable difference between popular music from the 70s and the popular music of recent years. Not only in terms of craftsmanship and musical composition, but I think it all boils down to class. Music today completely lacks class. You don’t even have to listen to it to know that; all you have to do is read the lyrics. All these artists from the 70s seemed to have such a way with words, and artists these days can’t seem to go ten seconds without throwing in explicit words or making something hyper-sexualized... and as I’ve witnessed; it has very toxic effects that direct how the audience choose to live their lives; what exactly they prioritize in life... I’m afraid to say I feel I was born much too late. I can only wish for music to truly be good again.

Today's reality is especially sad and troubling for all of us who grew up and came of age in a world that was much, much different from ANYTHING we could have envisioned back then. The artists who graced us with their musical brilliance through the 1960's and 70's are mostly gone or in their golden years, and can never, ever be replaced. Sadly, we live in an "upside down" society, where things that were once viewed as abnormal, wrong, or unaccepted, are, today, considered completely normal and embraced by a culture and generation who will never understand otherwise. Tenderness, respect for oneself and partner, dating, going steady and courting have been repaced by a media-driven culture of "gangsta-wanna be's", "pimps" and "whores", and the lifestyle that accompanies that culture; one that today's young people have fully embraced. It isn't surprising, then, that teens and young adults are losing their lives to gun violence and taking their lives in record numbers, along with dealing with depression and anxiety isses that we, of a certain age, could have never imagined back then. Our music reflected our lives...we were happy, socially engaged and "in love" (not "gittin' it") and we were just fine!

Ì was born in 1961 these tunes are all classics. To me the 1970,s was my favourite music decade. Classic songs and great artists. The stars of the 70,s put modern artists to shame.
I can't speak for some of these foreign songs that topped the charts in other countries in the '70's... But, I was just really starting to get into pop music (on my transistor radio) about 1970 as I turned 11 years old. OMG!!! The songs and music of the 70's was truly the greatest music EVER produced!!! Even 50 years later...OMG!!! the memories I have of my teens in the 70's with free wheeling, carefree days with my friends and all this phenomenal music!!! I am so grateful that I grew up in that era to hear all this great music as it came out here in the U.S.A.!!!!
I really began to appreciate just what fine musicians they were, a couple of years ago. My late sister was a big fan of T-Rex so she despised them, but I sent her some stuff and she admitted that they were more than just a "glam rock band". Mick Tucker was a fabulous drummer, Andy Scott a gifted guitarist, and Steve Priest a brilliant bassist and their vocal contributions made Sweet stand out. Steve led the way in this, but they had a wonderful capacity for sending themselves up, and who wants to watch a glum faced band who don't seem to be enjoying what they're doing? "Just a glam rock band", yet they're STILL remembered with fondness, and inspired countless HM bands. Desolation Boulevard was a great piece of work.
I grew up in the seventies and there was a lot of great music back then, but listening to this #1 list i know why i stopped listening to Hit Radio at the age of 12.

I was 14/15/16 in 1972-'73 and thought I'd know all of these songs, but no! A big percentage were not played in the U.S. I've made notes of the ones I like, and want to hear them in their entirety on TH-cam. Love that era and it's nice to discover "new" music from it.
I, too, was 15/16 back in '72 and '73, and don't remember some of these songs ever being released in the US. Sad, because they are really good and could have been hits here.

I'd put 1986 as the fade-out year for music. Loved the New Wave at its peak between 1982-'85, the GREAT music the Eagles put out as solo artists and so much more. 1987 & later when rap & hip hop started the ghettoization of America, that was it. Look where we are now. Awful. I was in high school (9th-12th grades) late '71 to mid-'75 and really liked the music of that era. My younger sister was in the class of '79. Yes there was some overlap, and yes we were both in high school in the 70's only, but my section and hers were VERY different in most ways. When I see these expensive softcover books on the 70's now (in the stores) it's mainly all the Charlie's Angels, Star Wars, Jaws, post-Watergate period. The class of '75 is the only one that's both pre and post Watergate. I only thought of that fact recently. One of my favorite groups ever (The Cars), came out in her section. But yeah, Grand Funk, Guess Who, 3 Dog Night were long gone in her section of the decade.

I've been into fitness and running for most of my adult life (starting with the whole aerobics craze if 1983) and don't smoke and rarely drink, and, as such, I hesitate to share my age with those I don't know, as most people think I'm in my 30's. The only downside is the lack of "point of reference" when interacting with younger colleagues and friends. Music is the really the only topic on which we most disagree.

Aber was ab den 90er Jahren als Musik geboten wird rollt uns begnadeten doch nur noch die Fußnägel hoch 😢😢😢.

I was born in 1999, and I can undoubtedly say that there’s a huge, almost inexplicable difference between popular music from the 70s and the popular music of recent years. Not only in terms of craftsmanship and musical composition, but I think it all boils down to class. Music today completely lacks class. You don’t even have to listen to it to know that; all you have to do is read the lyrics. All these artists from the 70s seemed to have such a way with words, and artists these days can’t seem to go ten seconds without throwing in explicit words or making something hyper-sexualized... and as I’ve witnessed; it has very toxic effects that direct how the audience choose to live their lives; what exactly they prioritize in life... I’m afraid to say I feel I was born much too late. I can only wish for music to truly be good again.

Today's reality is especially sad and troubling for all of us who grew up and came of age in a world that was much, much different from ANYTHING we could have envisioned back then. The artists who graced us with their musical brilliance through the 1960's and 70's are mostly gone or in their golden years, and can never, ever be replaced. Sadly, we live in an "upside down" society, where things that were once viewed as abnormal, wrong, or unaccepted, are, today, considered completely normal and embraced by a culture and generation who will never understand otherwise. Tenderness, respect for oneself and partner, dating, going steady and courting have been repaced by a media-driven culture of "gangsta-wanna be's", "pimps" and "whores", and the lifestyle that accompanies that culture; one that today's young people have fully embraced. It isn't surprising, then, that teens and young adults are losing their lives to gun violence and taking their lives in record numbers, along with dealing with depression and anxiety isses that we, of a certain age, could have never imagined back then. Our music reflected our lives...we were happy, socially engaged and "in love" (not "gittin' it") and we were just fine!
For a person your age you have a very admirable look on the subject of good music and our culture and the decline of our values in life. Thanks for sharing.

Born in '68, but I know almost all of these! So many great classics! Sweet were huge when I was a kid. Loved them then, still love them now!
I really began to appreciate just what fine musicians they were, a couple of years ago. My late sister was a big fan of T-Rex so she despised them, but I sent her some stuff and she admitted that they were more than just a "glam rock band". Mick Tucker was a fabulous drummer, Andy Scott a gifted guitarist, and Steve Priest a brilliant bassist and their vocal contributions made Sweet stand out. Steve led the way in this, but they had a wonderful capacity for sending themselves up, and who wants to watch a glum faced band who don't seem to be enjoying what they're doing? "Just a glam rock band", yet they're STILL remembered with fondness, and inspired countless HM bands. Desolation Boulevard was a great piece of work.
I grew up in the seventies and there was a lot of great music back then, but listening to this #1 list i know why i stopped listening to Hit Radio at the age of 12.

I grew up listening to music either by radio or by 8-track tape like The Moody Blues, Wings etc.
I wrote at least 6 of those songs out of the 130. What creeps I had to approach when I was a kid! Never got citied or paid a dime!
I was 14/15/16 in 1972-'73 and thought I'd know all of these songs, but no! A big percentage were not played in the U.S. I've made notes of the ones I like, and want to hear them in their entirety on TH-cam. Love that era and it's nice to discover "new" music from it.
I, too, was 15/16 back in '72 and '73, and don't remember some of these songs ever being released in the US. Sad, because they are really good and could have been hits here.

I'd put 1986 as the fade-out year for music. Loved the New Wave at its peak between 1982-'85, the GREAT music the Eagles put out as solo artists and so much more. 1987 & later when rap & hip hop started the ghettoization of America, that was it. Look where we are now. Awful.
I was in high school (9th-12th grades) late '71 to mid-'75 and really liked the music of that era. My younger sister was in the class of '79. Yes there was some overlap, and yes we were both in high school in the 70's only, but my section and hers were VERY different in most ways. When I see these expensive softcover books on the 70's now (in the stores) it's mainly all the Charlie's Angels, Star Wars, Jaws, post-Watergate period. The class of '75 is the only one that's both pre and post Watergate. I only thought of that fact recently. One of my favorite groups ever (The Cars), came out in her section. But yeah, Grand Funk, Guess Who, 3 Dog Night were long gone in her section of the decade.
@@robmcgowan4034 I'd like to keep a positive perspective as "the best is yet to come" and "age is just a number". I've been into fitness and running for most of my adult life (starting with the whole aerobics craze if 1983) and don't smoke and rarely drink, and, as such, I hesitate to share my age with those I don't know, as most people think I'm in my 30's. The only downside is the lack of "point of reference" when interacting with younger colleagues and friends. Music is the really the only topic on which we most disagree.
About a third of these are on my karaoke playlist. What great years for music.
