The Spyderco Damascus and Titanium Delica Pocketknife: The Full Nick Shabazz Review

  • The Spyderco Damascus and Titanium Delica is, well, a Delica with Damascus Steel and Titanium. The price is higher, the steel is fancier, and the handle is simpler, thinner, and a bit more beefy. But most importantly, just like the regular Delica, it's absolutely good-to-go for EDC.
    Although it's not perfect, if you the Delica, love the Damascus, and you're willing to put in some money, this is a great choice.

    i really wish they offered a delica with these Ti scales and a regular premium steel blade. that would be a big time winner IMO

    I found this Delica works well for public use - it looks fancy compared to the regular Delica, and not very "knifey". Plus, it's thinner in the handle and a tad shorter (by 0.1") which makes it more pocketable.

    • @HaesslichG
      @HaesslichG 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, the laminated VG10 Damascus isn't prone to being polished unlike the Damasteel in the Cody Eustler there - that blade can be polished, unlike this one.

    Hello Nick, I hope you haven't forgotten about me from your early days.
    I am currently designing an axe, and i wanted your opinion on non-conventional blade shapes, avoiding the "murdery" aspect of things. But blades that don't look entirely useful, but excel at specific tasks.
    Thank you for continuing the videos, you are talented and we wish you all the best.

    Nice video and review. I like Damascus blade, but its look like etching on the surface. I saw Devin Thomas and other Japanese damascus knives. I use yellow handle spyderco pacific salt HI blade. I do fishing in saltwater and fresh water and keep with me, although I have swedish EKA fishblade, which I like a lot for fishing. Like good damascus , but too expensive which I like from Japanse knife makers

  • @williammowery8911
    @williammowery8911 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree that that the damascus here is ugly, but the VG-10 core being exposed more as the bevel joins up is better for long term use. All the cutting edge is is VG-10, while other Damascus steels will have both steels used in the pattern continue all the way to the bevel, which depending on what the other steel used is, can greatly hinder the knives cutting performance, as you have two different steels that vary in molecular makeup, and on cheap examples, hardness.

  • @slidetek
    @slidetek 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, the damascus on this blade is closer to damasucks. Not one of the things I love about that steel. I agree, just a plain (or ano) Ti handle with like a great steel would be something I'd appreciate a lot more. Between the 2, I'd get the plain one and upgrade the scales - and have money left over for beer and pizza.

    Would the normal vg10 delica look like this when it it acid etched or would it have a different pattern?

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a special metal composed of two different steels, which each etch differently. Google "Damascus Steel" and you'll find lots more info :)

    • @MightyRude
      @MightyRude 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick Shabazz
      That was fast
      Vg10 is usually folded in some kind of zinc alloy
      You just need to acid etch the blade to get the pattern to show (but I don't know if the pattern will look like this or more like the japanese kitchen knives)
      The second blade you showed is a fully forged folded steel (it can be milled out of a bar or block or actually forged as a blade)
      I've seen a YT video about a guy who gets cheap forged blades from Sweden for about $30 he then acid etches the blades himself and sells them for about $150(final price depends on the pattern)

    Hi Nick.. have you ever tried or heard about EnZo knives? their Birk 75 in ffg s30v model is currently my best edc! fit&finish on par with any spyderco. I tried many budget or expensive knives but this little fella from Finland and assembled in Taichung Taiwan is great deal. @4:45. You do this a lot with the Delica. You can't very well start a dramatic statement such as, "As I've said many a time. If I had to carry one knife for the rest of my life..." Then deflate it with a qualified, "probably". It's like climbing up on the bar in a crowded sports bar and declaring, "Attention! I'm gonna say it right now! Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time! Probably."
