    Concerning Chris Kyle, the movie helped sell his legend more. The specific long range shot that was the climax of the movie wasn’t performed by Kyle himself, it was a different sniper. He did make a shot at a similar range, but it was just a random guy with an RPG, not an infamous enemy sniper

      If you read his book you realize the movie got alot off. The guy even claimed that he killed dozens of looters during hurricane Katrina, but there's no evidence to back up that claim. And why exactly would you lie about killing your own people over stealing toilet paper and wet electronics.

    Funny thing about that flanking maneuver at 30:00... Heavenly is in the ARTY off to the left, out of sight; he can't shoot back at ALL because that tank is too close. He's actually calling Badger and the others desperately for help as he tries to back his paper-armor Arty outta the area. We got Badger's view, and from there, you can see the opponent has had to abandon targetting Heavenly because now he's flanked by Badger and I think Stretchy(?). Badger is our view, but Stretchy is off to the RIGHT. So the opponent is trying to turn his turret to at least hit one of them, having to sacrifice getting Heavenly entirely, and taking a big risk that, while he targets Badger, Stretchy's gonna get him. Or if he chooses Stretchy, Badger'll be firing from the other side.
    And of course, it's Badger that gets him, even while the guy is beading up or reloading to fire back.

    Type 1 diabetic here, everything that you’ve said about type one and type two diabetes is 100% spot on. Things have definitely gotten easier with the use of continuous glucose monitors and insulin delivery pods. I used to have to prick my finger to draw a bit of blood to check my blood glucose then do calculations myself to give myself an insulin shot every time I ate. But yeah I can’t go without the insulin for long or I may cause permanent damage to my kidneys. Great video as always and I find those diabetes jokes from Badger hilarious!

      Also: Type 2 can get "better" by fixing your lifestyle. You're not cured, per say, but it can go to remission where the symptoms go away. This is usually only possible if you tackle your bad lifestyle very quickly after diagnosis and maintain a healthier lifestyle for longer.

As a result the German army preformed extremely well early in the war before the onset of trench warfare. I was USAF AMMO or what my Sister Services called Ordinance. I deployed to Iraq spent 8 months there. I was there when Binladen was killed. We had dropped 2 bombs that whole time. My second deployment to UAE . I spent six months there, helped build 2700ish bombs that were dropped and helped kill over 6k or 7k ISIS members. I got the paperwork right behind me on a shelf. With my SSgt Rank and coins. My Dress Blues still hang in my closet clean, pressed and ribbons/medals correct. I don't lie about it. I loved every second of what I did. I'm super proud to have gotten to build 250lb to 4000lb bombs, missiles, and all manner of explosives and components. Training with Heavy Equipment and around pretty much every airframe that has been within service to the USAF since 2008. I was medically discharged in 2018. I bulged 3 spinal discs. That will shorten an ongoing career. Really fast let me tell you. I made it to 10 years.

    Short barrels are for lobbing shells short distances in the infantry support role. Kinda like a mortar but not exactly. The idea of tanks in the infantry support role was originally thought of in ww1 buy the British but arguably perfected by the Germans in the start of ww2. Panzer IIIs had long barrels for killing tanks and panzer IVs had short barrels for lobbing smoke and HE to cover the other tanks. Meanwhile the StuG III assault guns supported the infantry in the same way with their short barrels, buy killing machinegun nests while the infantry protected it from the enemy infantry.
    So short barrels may not have the velocity, but in the right circumstances, they are preferable.

    Longer barrel length will - generally - be more accurate due primarily to longer sight radii (the distance between the rear sight and the front). You can test this fairly easily with an AR-15 with an optic, a decent set of iron sights and a couple good-quality upper receivers… 16”-20” vs a pistol-length 10”-14”; all else being equal, you lose (in 5.56mm) 50-75 fps per inch and gain a shitload of muzzle blast, though.

    • @DragonHeart53
      @DragonHeart53 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly, I was just going to mention that. The flanges for the rifling are intended to cut into bullets themselves so a sufficiently high quality rifling should impart all the spin the bullet needs regardless of the actual length of the barrel. And as you mentioned, greater length between the front and rear sight will impart greater general accuracy from the part of the shooter. Velocity is the factor in short barrels, so the only true accuracy problem is more bullet drop with the lower velocity.

    My uncle had went into a closet in the spare bedroom, the string from the closet light touched his baldhead.
    So, in a panic he flung both arms up waved wildly and broke the lightbulb.

    You make a really valid point about inflating your accomplishments in the military. You often see it from weird people to. Like you say people who HAVE genuinely amazing high speed shit on their record, but feel like it's not enough. I am open about my time in Iraq mostly being with HQ as a clerk. I did see some "action" as a driver, but I never even fired my weapon at anyone or anything. I got shot at some. I had times where I thought I would die from IEDs or just driving through narrow streets in villages and you couldn't see around the corner. I don't need to say like "I killed 12 Al Qaeda operatives to deliver the mail to troops at Camp Anaconda!" I did do part of that sentence... I mostly delivered mail and made sure people got paid. I did a lot of other stuff I am really proud of helping soldiers stay in touch at home and helping feed their families. Most stuff in the military that is actually worth remembering is not killing "bad guys" it is helping other soldiers and even the locals, not getting head shots on insurgents...

    HAH! yeah, maybe today Tank Rounds have all these safety features, but these aren't Modern Tank rounds you're dealing with here. these are mostly interwar and WW2 tech you're dealing with, where most explosives could be set off by igniting them or shooting them, and your Propellant of choice was gonna be something akin to Cordite. and as for tank rounds, forget it, your basic HE round is basically a steel cylinder, with an impact detonator behind a Ballistics cap, which is in no way a structurally sound component. In other words, you're one round dropped on it's head away from turning yourself from a person, into puree.

    Thing about Dave Canterbury is I’m not entirely sure it was him that claimed he was special forces or if the network polished his resume and threw him under the bus when it was found out. I’m sure someone else knows better but I’ve heard mixed reports, and he doesn’t seem like the type, looking at his videos and what people have said about him, to lie about something so egregious.

    As a Navy Veteran, Chris Kyle and the SEAL that aggrandize themselve drive us insane. I am from Nuclear Navy, which has a lot of cross pollination from the Submarine(since all of the Sub officers and over half crew are Nucs) and there is only one thing we consistently agree. We don't fucking talk about secrets or operations. Ever. Even decades after the fact we don't talk about anything. The SEAL communities behavior is extremely unprofessional, and very aggrivating. Especially when much of what Chris Kyle claimed was not remotely true. The most glaring is that he claimed to punch out Jesse Ventura, when as it turned out they never met at all. Also the consus is that Boomers were Born from 1946 to 1964.

    Speaking as a very early Gen X (or, as the pun goes, a 'late boomer') boomers are indeed weird because of the unique space they occupy in history.
    If you plot the timeframes through history, you find that there are generational changeovers, particularly in government offices and other major administrative powers (such as business management) every 20-25 years due to the natural decline of age.
    Most of these authoritative powers are held by a generation from the age of about 35 to about 65, because of the seniority and experience expected to handle such roles. Following this math, with the first baby boomer birth year of 1946 this means that boomers started affecting business practices and lawmaking in 1980 and should've begun to drop off around 2000... but they continue to exert influence for an entire *second* generation's timeframe from 2000 to 2020 and further.
    This is an unprecedented level of influence not reflective of any other period in world history. The world has drastically changed in the past 30 years, but policy-making authority for government, business, and other cornerstones of society are still full of people who a generation out of date. As Paul so aptly pointed out, their formative experiences are nothing like those of the young people born in just the last 25 years, let alone the last two years.
    People who grew up in 1950 and 1960 have lost much of their developmental context in our current time. It is and very much should be the next generation's turn to change the world.
    On Paul's question of topics the next generation will need: the ability to identify images and sounds generated by an artificial intelligence. Future generations will need to be able to identify falsified images, sounds, and video. It's relatively easy right now while the technology is in its infancy, but give it 20 years and you will find that faked photos and sound clips will be all the more common.

      They are also the most numerous generation in the 20th century. They have had the windfall of economic and medical science that noone else in their prior history ever had. The economic advatages were such and their generations lack of help for succeeding generations means it won't be felt by the middle class ever again. Vaccinations, cancer treatment, and most significantly treatment of heart disease means they will live and be active well into their 80s. It is really sad to see one segment of the population will basically open and close the door on the most progress ever made in human history...

    • @subtlewhatssubtle
      @subtlewhatssubtle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ididthisonpulpous6526 Very insightful, and true. Medicine has also affected their staying power.
      I think it is also worth considering the words of my late economic sociology professor, a baby boomer himself who had this to say of his experience: boomers are the "consumer generation" starting with the 1980s, but not just in the direction they have steered modern business. They also have more metaphorically consumed the opportunities of Gen X (and probably also the early Millennials) to influence their world, again because of the delays on generational transition.

    • @ididthisonpulpous6526
      @ididthisonpulpous6526 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@subtlewhatssubtle Well Covid is ravaging their age group more than any other I guess their is solace in that... I mean it's a dark joke and I don't want to see my parents or relatives die. I don't think Baby Boomers are monsters, but I think they have a distorted view of "opportunity" because of their unique position growing up when it was true and than becoming the reason it is no longer true for succeeding generations...
