    Oh Daesu's face at the end is haunting. It looked like the hypnosis worked at first, but then his smile devolves into pure despair.

    His sister WASN'T pregnant. The whole point of "daesu talks too much" and "your tongue got my sister pregnant" is that daesu spread the rumour about him sleeping with his sister (which was true) and so a rumour spread that she was pregnant. theres a thing called a phantom pregnancy where someone believes theyre pregnant and their belly grows and their period stops but theyre not pregnant, its a very real thing and its purely psychological but has a physical effect. so his sister wasn't actually pregnant, daesu's rumours and the stress from them made her believe she was so her belly grew which is why she killed herself because she believed she was pregnant with her brothers child. hence "oh daesu talks too much" and why he cut off his tongue. his words killed the "villain"s sister. He explains it pretty clearly when he's revealing it to Daesu.

      where does it indicate that the sister was not pregnant?

      @@jcon2060 her bother literally says it. He says that people talked so much that the next rumour was that she was pregnant and then she started to believe it. So her body reacted and acted like a pregnancy. That’s what he says during the confrontation in the penthouse.

    This is the second installment in director Park Chan-wook's revenge trilogy. While it can be said that the second installment exhibits the highest level of artistic merit, the other two films also have their own merits worth watching.

    Love the fact that you point out their bed room looked like his prison cell. Symbolized that even though he free himself physically, his secret will kill him slowly. You actually give good commentary on the flim and pick up things super well. Will follow

    Just about to go to bed and this popped up.
    So I had to watch.
    This movie when it came out was attacked and universally hated by the mainstream critics.
    So of course that meant I had to run out to see it an when it come out on DVD I pre-ordered at the video store to make sure they reserved a copy. Absolutely love this film. This is another film that gets analyzed and I'd highly recommended for film students for every aspect of film making lighting, color pallet, story telling, editing. Blocking, acting, directing.
    And the Japanese Manga is based on the Greek Tragedy Oedepus Rex.
    Even the name Odesu is a play on Oedipus.

    MAAAN PLEASE GIVE "I saw the devil" a watch!!! It's an amazing korean thriller movie, it's amazing but very underrated in the reaction community! I think there's only 2 reactions to it
    The main actor from oldboy is in I saw the devil, to me his acting was even more incredible in it than in old boy. Mostly because of the character he's portraying which is..lets just say...a very horrific and hard character to portray correctly
    One of the best I ever watched. I think I prefer it over this amazing movie too

    The whole story is different from original comic book's, except that main character has been locked up for 15 years for some reason.
    And I love the flow of revenge.
    1. DaeSu to WooJin (after release)
    2. Woojin to DaeSu (telling secrets)
    3. Woojin to Woojin (by suicide)
    Though he told DaeSu that his tongue made his sister pregnant, Woojin actually knew that It was himself who made his sister pregnant and who released his hand holding his sister on the dam. So he finished his revenge by killing himself to make it perfect

    This is the first in an unofficial trilogy.
    The next 2 are if I remember correctly
    Sympathy for Mr Vengeance and the third is Lady Vengeance both are definitely worth seeing.

    • @ayrtlamrin2264
      @ayrtlamrin2264 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mr. Vengeance is actually the first one followed up by Oldboy and Lady Vengeance. Idk if it'd be called an unofficial trilogy. The filmmaker addresses them as a trilogy, so does everyone.

    • @gerardcote8391
      @gerardcote8391 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ayrtlamrin2264 I know but like the so called man With No Name Trilogy, they do not involved the same characters and the plots don't follow an overarching plot.
      So they are not an actual Trilogy as people understand it. It isn't even like the Three Colors Trilogy Where the characters are different but there is a scene in each to connect it to the other 2. So they all take place in the same universe and the Final scene of the third brings all the characters together.
      This Trilogy is just 3 movies with a similar theme made by the same filmmaker.

    There is a line in the Bond film for your Eyes Only... Roger Moore as Bond say that when you set out for revenge always prepare 2 graves.
    Ode Soo is told that he should not seek out who or why he was imprisoned because he wouldn't like the answer. He goes out to get his revenge and in pursuit of his revenge he sleeps with his daughter. Had he not sought revenge that wouldn't have happened.
    The Bond line plays out perfectly. He goes for revenge his captor dies thar is one grave and he dies a different death himself.
    And likewise the villain sets off on his revenge killing himself in the process of getting his revenge.

    Woojin : "But it's true you simply for got."
    There's a saying. There are no perpetrators in the world; there are only victims. Because even if the perpetrator ignores and forgets what he or she has done, the victims cannot forget the thought until they die.

    After you've watched enough of them, you suddenly come to the realization that you've spent the majority of your life watching really terrible movies.

    Note him eating the live octopus is real. They filmed that scene 7 times and the actor was Buddhist so each take he said a prayer for the squid before they shot the scene and he ate it. That is no special effect those were real and alive.

    • @killervonkase
      @killervonkase ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eating the octopus represents his desire to kill, several times he says that he will kill Woojin and eat every last piece of his body, just like he did to the octopus.

      Eating live octopus is a common food culture in Korea. Of course, Koreans don't chew whole octopus like in the movie, but they eat live octopus by cutting it with a knife. Try it when you come to Korea. it taste good🤣🤣

    9:40 i think he ate a live squid thingy to remind himself of how much he seeks for revenge and vengeance. he wanted to kill something to enlighten his killer instinct, so that he can punish whoever took away 15 years of his life + his family.
    btw, what do you call that animal? it's not exactly a squid nor an octopus. maybe they only exist around korea, perhaps? 🦑🐙
