Thank you. I've been injecting aimovig for two and a half years now, and finally started waiting almost a full day with it out before injecting and it helped with the pain so much!
I am so glad for Aimovig, it actually really works, Thanks for showing, I'm still nervous giving myself a shot, I went to VA to my Neurologist and asked if the Nurse could give me my shot she did, in my arm, I was going to try my 3rd shot on my own, but I refrigerated after it was out for 4 hrs, , so I"m going back to VA on Monday to see Pharmacist if I can still use it or not, I'm going to have the Nurse give me my shot, I'll try to do my own next month. It works, i went through 4or 5 medications before this one, This one is working so much better, and I feel like my life is better, I can go do things with friends,
I still have nerves and I've been giving myself injections for many years! I've found that once I have everything ready to go, I need to give myself the injection. If I wait, the anxiety about giving hte injection only gets worse. I also try to focus on slowing. my breathing down ect. You can do it! And if you end up needing to go in monthly to have the nurse give it to you, that is okay. Sometimes the anxiety is too great for people. I'm so happy to hear that the Aimovig is helping you. That is wonderful! I love hearing that you can go out with friends and live life again! Thank you so much for sharing. And let me know how it goes next month when yougive yourself the shot. I'm rooting for you! You've got this!!
Hi Kelly! Thank You! My Daughter Is Away From Home And I Usually Administer Her Injections. She Asked Me For A Video So She Can Do It Herself. I Found Your Video…. She Thanks You Also! #BLESSINGS
Hi Kelly: This was super educational. Yoof! As someone who is terrified of needles, I have for years, avoided watching anything involving them. I'm slightly proud of myself that I didn't lose it watching this. I have no shame admitting that if I were ever to need injections similar to this, I'd get assistance; I know plenty of blind people who can do their own injections once shown, but I'll pick my skills; I'm not brave enough to keep poking myself until I get it right. Thanks for this.
Thanks Khanh. Good for you for watching something with needles while having a fear of them! This injection is a little bit easier than others because it is an auto-injector and all one has to do is get it at a 90 angle and push a button and the rest is done automatically. It will not work if it is not at 90 degrees so you don't have to see to get that correct. It also clicks when it is done injecting the medication so it does give audio feedback in addition to the visual feedback, which I actually listen more for the click than watch for the yellow window anyway. I think those who are blind and afraid of needles would find this easier than other methods of injecting. It took me a long time to get comfortable with injections and even now I still have to get my courage up at times.
To anyone who is doing this, I recommend doing it in your stomach. I also recommend leaving it out for several hours. I leave mine out for a day (you can do that, read the instructions).
That is great that the stomach works for you. I agree that leaving it out for at least several hours - the medication being at room temp helps with the pain.
Thank you for the information, After over 12 years of 24/7 headache and migraines, and years of trial and error on multiple various drugs, my doctors have finally agreed for me to try this. I am nervous about the pain of the injection, but if it helps with the headache I'd gladly take a bit of thigh pain once a month. im looking forward to seeing how it works for me.
I'm so glad the video was helpful. I'm so sorry you've been dealing with intractable headaches/migraine for such a long time. I truly understand how hard that is - I've also done multiple drug trials - over a hundred meds- to try to help with Migraine. This is a great step and I truly hope it affects teh severity & frequency of your Migraines if not stop them completely!! THe pain in teh thigh is really temporary. Make sure you leave the Aimovig out of the fridge for a couple hours before use and that will help. If you have pain after injection, you can always gently apply an ice pack to numb the temporary pain at the site. Just don't press too hard or you'll press the medication back out. The most the pain has lasted for me is 30 seconds, if I had pain. Please keep me updated on how this goes for you!
I know what you mean about deep injections. For my dystonia I need to do 50 ml Benadryl I m in my butt and the needle is an inch and a half! I really like how you edited this video.
Yikes! I'm sorry you need Benadryl IM for dystonia. I don't know anything about dystonia. What us dystonia and how does Benadryl help it? I used to take Benadryl 50mL 6x/week for Migraine with the 1.5 inch needle! So I have empathy for you! ! My sensitive body started to rebel and now I can't take Benadryl anymore!
@@IncredibleAnyway there are many types of dystonia. I have acute dystonia. It's in the Parkinson's family and it's a neurological movement disorder. Instead of your muscles jerking back and forth rapidly they tense up all the way... For some people this last long time but for me it's about two or three minutes and then stops and then starts again. Typically it's muscles that are doing opposite things Contracting at the same time when they should not be. It's very painful. Benadryl works by helping the brain to calm down as well as taking 2 milligrams of Ativan. Actually now just thinking about it I should make a video and post it to my TH-cam because there's so much more that is difficult to express in writing. There's something he said about being able to give yourself your own shot, and learning to just go for it. The Benadryl shot really takes a toll on the injection site sometimes leaving a hard mass for a few days or for a long time.
You are so welcome! I'm so glad this was helpful for you! Please let me know if you have any questions. And let me know how it goes for you. You are going to do great! I always leave it out of the fridge for a few hours to make sure it is room temp as I found that right out of the fridge (even 30 minutes out of the fridge), the cold medicine can sting when injected.
I find it unique that they send you 2 injectors of 70. I've been taking this medication since Dec 2019 and I receive 1 injector of 140ml. This is magic for me.. I went from 3 migraines a week to maybe 3 minor migraines a month.. zomig is for when I get those.
Hi there! The reason they sent me 2 injectors of 70mg is because I started Aimovig just after it was FDA approved in May 2018. When the company saw there would be so many people taking the 140mg dose, they created the 1 140mg injector. But it took a while, because I was still receiving 2 injectors after 7 months before I switched to Ajovy. I am SO thrilled for you to read that your migraines went from 3 a week to 3 a month adn zomig helps those! That is SO incredible! It brought tears to my eyes to read that! Thank you for sharing that as it brings so much hope to me and others! Your life must be so much different now that you don't have so many migraines!
I took my first Aimovig injection yesterday I am at the 140mg one. It did hurt but I’m hoping this finally works for me. I’ve had migraines for 16 years now with no real success.
Way to go. Aimovig most often hurts me. A trick I learned is to take it out of the fridge at least 6 hours before I give it to myself. The hour it says on the institutions is not enough IMO. If it is cold it will hurt a lot more for some reason. I really hope Aimovig is helpful for you. 16 years is a long time to not have found something helpful. I can empathize. I’ve been in the same boat. Let me know if the Aimovig helps or not.
@@IncredibleAnyway I can’t believe the difference in just the first injection! It’s not perfect but oh my goodness my migraines are far better now than before. I usually have a chronic headache 24/7 & even that is pretty much gone. I can’t wait for my second injection.
Brian, I'm thrilled to hear that you have already noticed improvement from the first injection! That IS fantastic! I'm so happy for you that the 24/7 headache is pretty much gone! Thank you for coming back and telling me how it went. Please keep me updated! I'm excited for your life is going to change!
@@IncredibleAnyway Taking my second injection in 2 days, I will be leaving it out for 2 days before I take it so hopefully it won’t hurt nearly as bad.
Thanks for making this video. You left it out for an hour and a half?! The directions say to leave it out for 30 minutes only and then inject it. The pharmacist told me it says to stay in the fridge when not being used.
If you read the institution manual- Aimovig can be left out of the fridge at room temperature for up to 7 days. Here is a link to the Aimovig website where it says as much. www.aimovig.com/start/aimovig-injection
@@IncredibleAnyway I just picked it up from the pharmacy and hour ago and read all the directions. I know you have been using it for awhile. But I was just saying that the pharmacist told me today was always keep it in the fridge. I was told not to leave it out for more than half an hour at most before injecting. Strange that my directions don’t say that. When I picked it up at the pharmacy they had it in a mini fridge. Thanks for the website link. I guess the pharmacist doesn’t know it can sit out for a week or is just being extra precautious.
Well you do what is comfortable for you and what your pharmacist/physician says. Did your instructions say it should not be left out of the fridge for more than 30 minutes? The pharmacy should be keeping the CGRP inhibitors in the fridge. The official website says “Once out of the refrigerator, it should be kept at room temperature (up to 25°C/77°F) in the original carton, and it must be used within 7 days.” This has been true since June 2018 when the FDA approved it and I started taking it.
I don't have the answer to your question. But your pharmacy could give you an answer if you called them. If you have insurance, you can contact your insurance company and ask them.
Hi Kelly, I've been given 3 x 140mg , which is obviously 3 months worth , after doing my first one it relieved the pain I was having, still getting them after a couple of days, not as bad as they use to is that normal
How much any medication helps a person varies from person to person because our brains/bodies react differently to these meds. After starting a medication, it can take a while for the medication to kick in as well (up to 12 weeks). With migraine, we still have the things that trigger our migraines. For example, with me, CGRP inhibitors eliminate a lot of the migraines, but if the weather changes (which is a migraine trigger for me), I’ll still get one. I’m so glad that you hvae found some relief adn that they are not as bad. If you are ever concerned or have questions, I highly recommend calling the prescribing doctor. :) I Hope that your migraines continue to improve as the medication starts helping!
Do you use like an app to track how many migraine days do you have? Because I’ve seen a lot of them on the App Store and I was wondering what your opinion was on them as someone who deals with this on a daily basis
Great question! I started tracking Migraines before there were apps and so that was always my go-to method. I have tried a couple apps that I did NOT like and I gave up on apps and went back to tracking paper/pencil. But, I think this would be a great idea for a video b/c if you want to know, others will too, so I will look into it. Tracking is good not just for tracking days, but also for tracking what we ate/what the weather was ect so that we know what triggered our migraines.
I got mine in the mail today. I really don’t want to do this 😂 Unfortunately Botox isn’t working completely. It helps and has changed my life completely but I need more.

But still she have pain . What she can do please can you advise and help us .she have cervical nubz damage problem as well .
I am so sorry to hear that your wife suffers from Migraine. It can be such a challenging issue to have. I'm not a doctor, so I can't give any medical advice, but I would make sure she is seeing a neurologist that specializes in Migraine because they know a lot about treating Migraine. Often they are called "headache specialists". There are many types of medications that treat migraine. This is a good website to learn about the different types of treatments/medications: migraine.com/migraine-treatment/ It can take a while for many people to find a medication that helps and so it is a slow process of trial and error of different medications and different doses. I find it helpful to utilize both medication as well as complementary/alternative treatments that help me cope with Migraine. One example is acupuncture which has helped some people who have migraine. There are a lot of online support groups out there (Facebook and otherwise) and it may be helpful for your wife to talk with others who have Migraine to get support. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Hey thanks for you video, I have a question, on the Instructions for use it’s written that the injection will take about 15 seconds, but in my case it took about 5 sec, is this normal ?
Happy to help. I think the biggest things would be that you made sure the window went completely yellow and you heard a second click before removing the autoinjector from your skin. That said, if you look at minute 11:32 in this video, when I inject it, I just counted and it takes about 5 seconds for the injection. I would say if the view window completely turned yellow and or you heard the second click before removing the autoinjector, you should be good. They may be saying 15 seconds in the instructions to make sure people don’t remove the autoinjector too soon. I’m not sure. If you are still concerned, you can always call the pharmacist or your dr and ask them. Hope this helps.
Im sure the warmer solution helps. But the speed and the heavy Guage the needle makes it so unpleasant. 27 Guage is a heavy needle. Not like a flu shot by no means. That's why bruising can occur. I sweat like crazy the day of injection. I'm glad they made 140mg now. Hey its only once a month thank goodness. Also Amgen manufacturer will supply you a free sharps container if you call and request it.
you don't need alcohol wipes any more (no need for sterile field) and band aid not necessary. Make it less medical and just a part of normal life. Pain is likely due to the anticipation, as the needle is so tiny and only subcutaneous not going into the muscle.
I would recommend everyone speak to their doctor about the specifics of injecting. My video nor any comments should be taken as medical advice. I will note that Amgen's instructions for Aimovig still say to clean the injection site with alcohol wipes. Band aids may be necessary depending on the person. If a person needs a bandaid - they need a bandaid. Pain is not due to anticipation and has nothing to do with the size of the needle. I give myself 1 and 1/2 inch needle IM injections for 17 years that are painless to me. The pain is due to the temperature of the medication. There is a marked difference between injecting medication when it is cold versus room temperature. Also autoinjectors are very different from injecting a pre-filled syringe in how they feel. An injection is medical and should always be treated with caution and respect because it is medical- let's call a thing a thing. Normal life can include medical things. We don't need to stigmatize medical procedures as if they are some how not a normal part of life. For many of us they are a very common part of every day life.
This video was from 2018, so things with insurance has changed a lot. In 2020-2021, I was able to get both Botox and aimovig covered by my insurance. But all insurances are different. You can always try to get it covered and then see what your insurance approves. Your neurologist may have more info on it because he deals with the insurance companies all the time. I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes!
The current patient insert indicates 3 areas it can be given: back of arm, abdomen and thigh. It is a matter of personal choice as one is just as good as the other. I have a lot of belly fat and I prefer a surface that is sturdier for an auto injector - so I use my thigh.
Good luck on shot. I am newly taking this. Thanks for information I am also looking @ Dannie J new review channel “The Headache Chat”. Thanks for sharing
I wonder if someone who is visually impaired do this ? I am visually impaired and have migraines all the time and I had not found a medication that work on me .
That would be a great thing to discuss with your doctor, but I imagine you could go into their office every month to get it administered by a nurse in the office if you aren't able to do it yourself.
Are you asking how frequently you should take it? I would ask your doctor/pharmacy exactly how often and how to count it. I am prescribed to take this every month, so I take it every 30 days.
There was nothing dramatic in this video. That is great it is easy for you to inject, but it isn’t for everyone and that is okay. Needles make some people anxious or wary as do new treatmetns. I wish you peace and hope the Aimovig is helping you.
I can understand that. But IMO, it the small amount of pain from the injection is worth how much pain it prevents with the Migraines. You dont’ see the needle at all with the autoinjector. Have ice ready and if it hurts, put ice on the injection site and that can help with the pain. Also, leave the medication out for several hours before injection. That usually helps with pain too.
Still helping folks in july 2024. Thanks for this, appreciate you

I’m thinking about talking to my neurologist about getting the shots this week. Did your insurance end up covering them once you stopped Botox?
This video was from 2018, so things with insurance has changed a lot. In 2020-2021, I was able to get both Botox and aimovig covered by my insurance. But all insurances are different. You can always try to get it covered and then see what your insurance approves. Your neurologist may have more info on it because he deals with the insurance companies all the time. I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes!

Awesome, thank you!
Is there any reason why you don’t use your abdomen for these injections?
The current patient insert indicates 3 areas it can be given: back of arm, abdomen and thigh. It is a matter of personal choice as one is just as good as the other. I have a lot of belly fat and I prefer a surface that is sturdier for an auto injector - so I use my thigh.
Good luck on shot. I am newly taking this. Thanks for information I am also looking @ Dannie J new review channel “The Headache Chat”. Thanks for sharing
You are very welcome! I hope Aimovig helps you! If you ever have any questions, please ask! Best of luck in your Migraine prevention journey. - Kelly
Is it mrna based?
Good question. I don't know. But I imagine that information is online somewhere or you could ask your doctor.
We count 28 days from day after inj?
Are you asking how frequently you should take it? I would ask your doctor/pharmacy exactly how often and how to count it. I am prescribed to take this every month, so I take it every 30 days.
Botox is best but I have to wait to get mine
Are you saying that Botox is the best thing that helps your migriane?
Oh and NEVER put the cap back on!!!! more of a risk of needlestick injury doing that!
don't be so dramatic just jam it into your leg i take this each month no reaction
There was nothing dramatic in this video. That is great it is easy for you to inject, but it isn’t for everyone and that is okay. Needles make some people anxious or wary as do new treatmetns. I wish you peace and hope the Aimovig is helping you.
Now I’m scared because you said it hurts.. I don’t like needles 🥹
It definitely depends on your pain threshold. It never hurts me for more than an instant, and the benefits of the medicines outweigh that 100x
