He was always one of my favorite Joes. Really hope they make this in the Classified 6" series. They have all the pieces to do it already with Gun Ho's hat and Beachhead's head sculpt.
That's a good point! I wonder how many figures the Classics line will eventually release. They are very difficult to find in stores around here and I know several people who have stopped collecting them just because they don't want to pay aftermarket prices on ebay. It would certainly be cool if the line lasted long enough to release some of the less famous characters!
He was an awesome figure! Look at him as a night operations specialist or urban commando. He will always be in my top 10 joes but wish they made a better re make of him for the 25th line
If he had first been released looking like the 2nd version that was black and gray and he had been listed as a "Commando", he would have been one of my favorites around that time! That 2nd version looks awesome! ...not that the first one isn't cool, but the 2nd one looks more 'military' to me.
@@acecommander1 It was just a square cut from a black, plastic bag from a store with a wadded up piece of plastic bag inside. I tied it at the top with a twist tie and cut off the excess plastic bag and excess twist tie...so simple even I could do it -Haha! :)

Shockwave is definitely one of the best of the line although rare and expensive the Night Force version of Shockwave in gray and black is def more military themed.

The Cover for Special Missions #22 looks to me like shock-wave is rescuing a kid from his abusive father. It's probably not that in the story but It always looked like that to me.
Someone who worked at the store where you bought him took all of the Shockwave figures out of the package and rubbed off all of the yellow then re-sealed them -Haha!
I can't say if I even bought this figure, and if I did, I guarantee he did not get any play. I HATED the urban camo look they started using on the GI Joe figures at that time -- it reaked of 80's fashion design. I also wasn't a fan of Hasbro giving the figures coloured weapons that somehow complimented their outfits. The best feature of this figure was his mask, imo, which harkened back to Beach-Head's look. Your photos and video definitely make Shockwave look better than I ever remember. (Love the mix of action figure, comic book, cartoon and personal history in your Joe videos, btw, seeing them pop up in my notifications is always a highlight.)
Thank you so much! I enjoy the photography and going back to re-read the comics when I'm researching each figure. You're right about the 80s fashion of some of the later figures and colored weapons. Black, gray, silver, and occasionally olive green or tan for some kind of camouflage were all cool, but colors like light blue, pink, neon green, etc. just never really worked for me either. I have several weapons that came in one of the weapons packs that were light blue and as a kid, I tried to color them black so they'd look better!
This was the case for me as well. It seems like this figure (or maybe this wave of figures) was near the end for many kids playing with GI Joe at the time!

@@camcordernonsense5264 I've been re-reading the old GI Joe comics lately and a lot of them really hold up. Not all of them, but easily more than half of them were well written for an 80s kid's comic...and ALL of them were well written for a comic based on a toy line!
I just got the pistol in a parts lot recently, but aside from that, the rest of the parts are all from my childhood figure. Since he didn't see much action as a kid, everything's still in good shape!

@@WeHadThat Yeah, since bases are cities in themselves they have to have law enforcement. Problem is, again, unless he's deployed to the front (as some MPs were) he's mainly just doing law enforcement on base.

@@WeHadThat As a kid I was more into the military figures like yourself. Don't get me wrong because I liked Shockwave as a kid but at the time he wasn't one of my favorites. He also looked like a cop type to me. But he had some awesome missions in the backyard back in the day lol.

Joe's needed an anti terrorist specialist to counter firefly. The jungle comandos and desert rats don't fit in when doing combat in urban environments. So the same goes both ways...
I agree and in that respect, Shockwave does work. I think the black / gray version that came out a bit later could have fit the anti-terrorist role too and it would have fit better into my idea of what the Joe team should look like for me personally. I still think this version is cool. He just doesn't fit as well into any of my Joe teams. :)
