I've been painting a long time, but this is the single best tip I've ever heard. Seems like a time-consuming pain in the ass, but the amount of time it can save is just beautiful. Wish I'd heard this years ago, could've saved me so many tears.

08:15 we can use a small square shaped either white paper or transperant plastic to check the mixed colour with that on the canvas (or reference photo or live subject)

Thanks for the tip. I don't like to have so many shades on the palette and they get dried before I could use them on my painting. You are so very right and now I know why my finished portrait looked chalky (though others may not notice it!!) now I will correct my old works and be careful in new work pieces. Thanks for the tip. You have tremendous experitise bringing life into painting, eyes are so very lively. My 9 year old grand daughter has taken my passion of portrait painting and she does amazing face drawings at her age! She wants to draw eyes everywhere and at any given spare moment and paper pencil around she would be drawing a face! I am amazed at her burning desire to draw faces. She is too young to show your videos but certainly I would introduce at little later so that she does not get overwhelmed. Even right now she is never satisfied with her work and does not want to show me thinking it is not as good as I do, wow...how can I make her understand the I have more than 30-35 years of experience while you don't have any and yet you are drawing so very well! :-D Thanks for your videos.

Make a color checker. Use a laminated print out of the original photo reference and smudge the mixed color over the section you need to repaint until you have a match

    3:00
    4:00
    9:45
11:11 if come in with idea that you want slight change in color then even if your mix comes I. Too strong you might not care too much because you want change
But then it can often be too much and totally change all the color relations
And so eventually need to adjust everything or else it looks off or the rest of painting looks off
as you cont to keep going
17:50 same idea for if you wanted to go darker or lighter you could overdo it without mixing what’s the first
15:44 actually process of remixing previous color literally doesn’t take much time
So don’t let it feel overwhelming it’s not a big deal
