ÌTHANK YOU , FOR ALL THE INFO, FROM THE TYPES OF SLIDES, TO THE BETTER TUNINGS ( E ). AND THE GIBSON SG'S RAISING AND LOWERING OF STRINGS. THANKS AGAIN!!
Super video! I love that SG; a classic set up. I generally play slide guitar on an old Telecaster. I use a standard guitar pick and the middle and ring fingers. I like a pick for any single note stuff, but that's one thing I like about slide, is that everyone's got such a different style.
What a great lesson. The Rolling Stones and Joni Mitchell used Open E without the slide. I prefer Open D with a capo on the second fret when I am not playing slide because your tuning down. But for slide, Open E is preferred and Open G. Thank you for this lesson. Duane Allman was one of the great slide players. You need higher grade strings because your tuning up and don’t want them breaking. But It adds some tension to the neck.
Hey Troy, try a JET SLIDE. You can get it on Musicians Friend and Reverb. I had one, going to get another. It has a Ring for your Finger, then a Brass Bar, but you can get it with Glass on the Front edge as well. It has a little TAB that you can use your other Finger to Hold in place when playing, but you can also play Chords when Not using the Slide. Also, I got this, DIP, a kind of Rubber Goop, and I Dipped, just the Ring PART Into the Goop, about, 3 or 4 Times, to Create a Softer Barrier for the Ring, as it's metal. It worked VERY WELL. I think the Ring size was a little Large for my Finger, so it really Helped.
Thank you for this lesson. I like Derek Trucks very much and now have the chance, to learn and understand how he creates his incredible sound and solos. Does he play in open E as well or does he prefer another tuning ?
Hi Troy, thanks for your very entailing lessons. I had to go lap steel and slide guitar because of neuropathy in my left hand after playing guitar for a number of years. I can no longer form bar chords and most open chords. In any case, I’ve been working on my lap steel for a couple of years and now feel the need to try some slide guitar. I have an SG and I am looking for a a suggestion from you on an approximate string height measurement for that guitar that may help me to not fret out. Thank you.
Hey Troy, I've been fooling with slide quite a while. You teach the basics perfectly. I'm anxious to see more from you. You're a great teacher. I'd like to see you teach Sonny Landreth stuff. You'll need to put that slide on your little finger.😁😁😁 I'm 84 and still picking. Gene in Az.
Troy Brenningmeyer Awesome! I’ve been getting into the Allman Brothers music lately and love the guitar playing Dwayne Allman and Derek Trucks. I think your lessons will be a great way to learn how to play in their style! Keep up the awesome work, Troy!
Hey nice video Troy. I tried a squier affinity telecaster but it couldn’t hand the heavy gauge strings, the neck has been shifting and just won’t stay in tune. I’m thinking an Epiphone SG with a set neck I won’t have to worry about the neck moving like a bolt on. Is this a Gibson?
Did you get this to work? I removed the neck on my older squire affinity Tele and found soft plastic shims taking up some of the space both under and alongside the neck in the pocket. I replaced them with strips of brass from a hobby store layered to the same thickness and it is much more solid now. I swear it sounds beefier too.
easily the best lesson I've seen on the net; thanks!!!

I have 4 Duane Allman slides, made from one of Duane Allman's Coricidin bottles. Learned so much from Warren Haynes.
Wow Scott you have 4 slides made out of 1 Duane allman bottle
Best lesson on the fundamentals and basics of slide guitar.
Chris Rea is also a great slide player who uses open E.
Great lesson. Thanks
Just what I’ve been wanting to see. I have my Dot tuned to E, so now I have a teacher🤠🤠
Nice lesson, I play both Lap Steel and bottle neck slide. I picked up some great tips, thanks!
Awesome!

Just coming across this video im a rhythm guitar player and always wanted to learn slide and this was a great video
Great video…I tune to open D, however I will try Open E. The Rock Slide is awesome in regards to sound and comfortable fit (Pinky)!

Prefer slide open at both ends, can get very sweaty in there after a while if one end is closed. Great vid, thanks Troy!
Thanks so much!!!
Nice tone, perfect for slide.
You are a fantastic teacher, thank you so much!!!
Lowell George !!

Thank you for this lesson. I like Derek Trucks very much and now have the chance, to learn and understand how he creates his incredible sound and solos. Does he play in open E as well or does he prefer another tuning ?
Derek almost always plays in open E, even when not playing slide.
I wonder what your amp and FX is set to, to get the sound? Thank you
I use a blue crackle finish ceramic slide which i find really nice not sure of make
To think i came here from Bocchi the Rock, it truly is a fantastic show

Should the guitar strings be high for good glide?
Thanks for being.
Thanks! Also, check out Dylan Adams. Dude is insane with the slide and plays open on a metal tele.
I wear my slide on my pinky finger also and I have both metal and glass.
You could do the same thing w/ a Resonator or Dobro
I'm liking what I'm seeing in this video so far. Are you going to make more videos on your website on Bottleneck Slide Guitar?
For sure!

My strings are low I'm building 2 slide guitars in a telecaster version

You mentioned all those slide guitarists but not the best.
Rory Gallagher.
Excellent lesson though 👍
Bottleneck Slide Guitar Basics = Get a slide tune to open E and watch Elmore James
❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊
Glass sounds way better. I have a short one and that way when not using i can use all fingers. Its about an inch 1/2 long.
Please Troy. Open G bottle neck🤠🇦🇺👍
David LInley
You talk to much
Thanks Jesse! Glad you like it. Thanks for the kind words.
I’m curious if you have discovered how to give a guitar lesson without speaking.
Turn your volume down then! Some of us like to hear what he's doing. Thanks for the lesson Troyj, I do appreciate your time and effort!
