  • I got my hands on a pistorm so join me this week as we put it together and get it setup. As someone who doesn't know the first thing about Raspberry Pi's this was quite a learning curve and I hadn't intended this video be become a tutorial but it might be useful for anyone looking to setup their own PISTORM.

    It's great that you didn't just "musical montage with titles" over the actual software installation & setup process.
    It gives a more realistic idea of what it takes for a "Rasp pi novice" to get the device up and running & get it functioning as desired. Well done.

    Nicely done. I like that it's done from a first time approach and not massively rehearsed. Honest approach.

    Very nice video. The beauty of the Pi is the community around it. It's the only SBC that really caters to the novice. The creativity that enables things like the PiStorm is amazing. I have a couple of 3A+ boards laying around and I'm about to delve into the PiStorm. I thank you for a very interesting and informative video without a lot of crappy music.

    As somebody who hasn't messed with an Amiga in years, just casually observing from outside. . . This is an incredibly cool hack, and I'm very impressed that somebody made it work. Mad science at its best.
    On the other hand, from a purely practical standpoint, it's nuts. You could take something like a Mini PC with Ubuntu, install Amiga emulation on it, and it would run Amiga software faster, and it would also run its own native software, which would also perform much better than a stand-alone Pi.

    • @paulgraves1392
      @paulgraves1392 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the reason why the Pi was chosen to be used is that they are quite ubiquitous with a standard GPIO port and have a consistent form factor. Part of the reason why PiStorm was created was to cut scalpers off at the heels by offering a cheap accessible CPU replacement.

    This was a great video, many thanks indeed. What you need is to use NewMode or ModePro to promote all the non-RTG screens to the RTG system (although expect varied results)!!! All of the Workbench reliant software will promote automatically (like FinalWriter or Wordworth), but the mode promoters will allow you to choose the resolution you want them at. I think you should choose a 1080 P screenmode - it will blow you way!!

    • @CRG
      @CRG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've changed the screenmode to 720p and its amazing, so crystal clear I just stared at the screen last night admiring the high res workbench while listening to mods.

    Pistorm is the amiga accelerator for everybody, in my opinion, nothing wrong with the other accelerators but Pistorm is going to get better, and better, might even do enough with a Pi Zero. It'll hopefully be a cheap upgrade for all Amiga owners and if they want to go faster they can. Until the PiStorm arrived you were looking at £120+

    • @CRG
      @CRG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't agree more and we are just seeing the start of what's possible. The new Pi4 version thats being worked on gives a massive, massive speed boost. It has been tested with a Pi Zero but results are similar to a stock 68k, marginally faster. But if that's all you need then it could maybe be seen as a means to replace a dead chip, that said though there may never be official support for it.
