Watching the the decline of their relationship and ultimately leading to a family torn between their ideals of Life, honor and Duty. I went through this whole scene and fight feeling like shedding tears 😢 I almost lost because of it too.

In large part, that first part is what matters. Jin cared about the people, Shimiura didn’t. That’s why honor exists, to keep the peasants in their place. So Jin helping them win the war that the shogun couldn’t is a hard L for them to hold.
@@moonmoon2479that is not how I view honor. Their viewpoint on what honor is supposed to be is rigid and narrowing. In my opinion true honor is found in compassion and strength and courage on behalf of those who can't protect themselves. That is why the ghost is a man of honor in my eyes.
But then again, there was a decent level of realism in this game before. And this looks like a mortal combat fight to me. Yet, I understand the decision from the storytelling perspective.
The fact that they showed their emotion, something samurai would never do, in the final fight just proves that this is one of the emotional battles in video game history.
Without honour that can’t be victory but without a mind and a heart that can not be a true victory that is what makes up a warrior as well as a samurai

Plus it gives Shimura an out from having to commit seppuku. Jin is a man without honor so the fact that Shimura was spared and wounded in battle demonstrates that he still upheld his by trying to kill Jin. That's why Shimura looks practically relieved when Jin spares him. He now knows what Jin has to do, but mourns him never seeing his adopted son again.
I mean first of all in my opinion Khan was just a dick even at the beginning I instantly hated especially when he killed Taka which also made me like him as the antagonist
Many fans have requested a shinobi type of AC game for a long time but it seems they didn't see the potential, This game i think will make them change their minds
I think Ubisoft don't want to make it because there are now too many games focusing on feudal Japan era and mostly if they want to make an AC Japan they need it to make it par with this game or sekiro.
I like how satisfying both endings are. On one hand, if Jin spares his uncle, he still considers him as family, despite having cast aside his honor and knowing his uncle will continue to hunt him for the rest of his days. On the other, granting him a warrior's death proves to him that Jin still has some degree of honor left, he even refers to him as "my son" one last time before Jin delivers the killing blow, with a smile on his face, promising that they'll meet again in the next life. Either way, Jin has nothing else to lose but his home by the end. That is a great way to set up the sequel.
I think a sequel will either take place in another timeline or a different country will be awesome it will be Sony's own ac without the sci-fiction stuff

But I’d say Jun’s uncle would be happier if he died at his hands instead, if he were to choose. Like he taught Jin in the flashback when he had Jin kill that assassin while looking at them straight in the eye, that’s how a samurai shows respect for the other’s life. If he commits seppuku, it’s to atone for his dishonor of failing. If Jin kills him, it would comfort him in death. Well, that’s assuming he has to commit seppuku anyway, since Jin acts like his uncle won’t be dying in the scene after with Yuna.
I'm not sure if shimura will die but I know he isnt dead because I heard a few peasants talking about how "Lord Shimura got to the castle gates and collapsed, the samurais had to carry him in" etc and that it'll take a few months for him to heal,

The representation i'm getting from the colored leaves they both sit on. Jin sitting on the white leaves represents him defending the people he cares for at any cost and gaining freedom from the code. Shimura sitting on the red leaves represents him being a slave to the code and having to spill his son's blood for it.
Since you spotted the petals, look at the Yin and Yang symbol they become when Jin and Shimura sit. I was thinking Shimura is wearing white to reflect order, authority and purity. Among red petals that symbolize blood, war, and death. While Jin is wearing red on white petals. Symbolizing he's a gruesome murderer among an order and authority. Who ever made this scene has appropriately earned an applause from many.
the ghost armor color is also based on the side you chose, chose jin and kill uncle you get the white armor or chose uncle and spare him , you get the red armor
Goddamn...the roller-coaster of emotions in this fight... *Sucker Punch* truly captures the essence of old samurai movie feels in this final boss battle. The tears, the haiku, and that subtle meaning in _their action of throwing their scabbards away..._ Compound them with the picturesque environment, and the melancholic music...truly, this is a masterpiece!
I know right and the choice in the ending. Kill him and recover his and your honor, but with The cost of a life of a loved one. Spare him and both of you lose your dignity, but atleast your love for him keeps Shimura alive. So poetical 😁

@@ishraque3601 Shogun is more powerful than Shimura so I doubt that whole Japan would be mad. Even whole Tsushima wouldn't be mad (Yarikawa hated Shimura). Shogun would order him to commit seppukku and would disband his clan. Killing him is a better option.
What is amazing in this fact is the detail : You are forced to wear the ronin armor, who is essentially "a samurai without a master". Which is what Jin becomes at the end of the story.
I must be the only one who uses the Sakai sword and not the others. To me, that’s Jin’s signature weapon and the sword he used canonically throughout the game.
At first I used the Hero of Tsushima blade just 'cause the gold looks cool. But after Jin fully became the ghost and was exiled I used the Sakai blade.
@@just1randomguy658 I know it may seem odd to others, but when I play games I tend to use the weapons, outfits etc that the official art has a character wear. I guess it’s what the devs kinda want you to use.

You vs the stranger who killed people you loved. Or You vs your loved , your last family member who turns into your enemy. It's obviously Why this fight is more emotional.
@@greentea1941 Bro, I have seen many fictions who can even make a fight with stranger villain feels more emotional, due to build up and good interactions between the characters. For example, Raiden vs Sam in MGR, Snake vs Ocelot in MGS. Ellie and Abby only meet each other 3 times in the game and they have literally zero interactions in each meet up. Of course players won't feel anything for their fight.
I really love this ending, it shows how Jin even though he became a ruthless fighter who taken down the Khan and even saved not only Tsushima but the main island where the Shogun is, he is hunted by the same people who fought for his same cause. Not because he defeated the mongols in a dishonorable way, but because he embraced The Ghost persona who sent a precedent for the common people to follow a different figure and in general threaten the Shogun's leadership, Jin opened his eyes and his mind when he become this figure to protect Tsushima and its people at all costs, when Shimura still puts the honor and his servitude to his superior above everything, even his nephew and the people of the island. Their fight shows how Shimura's blind faith made him try to kill his own family who risked everything to rescue him, and Jin victory and choice of kill or spare equally shows how he loves his uncle nevertheless(Killing him fullfil his desires of dying a honorable death, and Sparing him shows how The Ghost is not the monster the Shogun paint him to be and how Jin won't let himself to see another paternal figure get killed)
Are we not gonna talk about this MASTERPIECE of music they composed for this fight. Loud and fast but graceful and smooth as if it mirrors the fight and the emotions of both characters. This game dude. One of the greats.
I like the leaves forming a yin yang in white and red. Also you can catch shimura crying. As much as a slave to honor as he is, he still doesn't relish the idea of killing jin
"You were my son" That....That Broke me. And it takes a lot to break me! I spared Shimura. I wanted him to have a 2nd chance. But we all know that he would never love any other child the way he loved Jin. He said it himself: "The wounds you dealt my spirit will never heal"
I've never had more goosebumps in a game, movie or book as I did the moment they walked toward each other and lifted their blades while the music swelled. Amazing
To me sparing him is the canonical ending. Jin was literally telling Shimura moments before this that he had become a slave to honor. So him killing Shimura honorably literally goes against their entire argument they had with each other the whole game and before the final fight. Jin putting on the ghost mask one last time to his uncles disappointment is literally the perfect ending. The other ending goes against everything the entire game built up in my opinion. To the point where I question why they even bothered to have two different endings to begin with.
It also acts as proof that Jin still has honour and hammers home the implicit message of the game that honour isn't strictly tied to the system of Bushidō, just like the other ending does. In the sparing ending, Jin fully rejects all of Bushidō and his Uncle's wishes to demonstrate his commitment to breaking away from his Uncle's way of thinking. In the killing ending, Jin demonstrates that just because he has betrayed the code and gone his own way, that doesn't mean he is without honour. Both endings showcase that Jin has rejected Bushidō's strict concepts of honour for his own more flexible moral code and act as equally viable endpoints for Jin's metamorphosis.
There are two ways to interpret Jin's actions towards his uncle's request. The first is that Jin completely rejects the code, which leads to him leaving his family behind as a demonstration of his commitment. The second interpretation is that Jin ceremonially cuts ties with the code through one final "honourable" act while also severing his last link. This action ensures that Jin can never go back to the code again.
The kill ending is still more emotional tho as Shimura accepts Jin as his son after everything. In the spare option Shimura will probably still have to commit seppuku and they part ways on a bitter note
This was beautiful. The final clashing of blades between teacher and student, between "father" and "son". I love final battles like these, where the culmination of everything they've exchanged builds up to the final swipe of the blade.
Tear-inducing final boss battle where you reluctantly duel your character's mentor, in the field covered with white petals. I might have seen this in certain other Japanese game... Edit: I didn't know Ghost of Tsushima is not Japanese game by origin.
Damn that fight with Lord Shimura was amazing, you won against him by a stroke of the sword. 8:18 You both all are just one more swing away. it was so intense.
I mean..... this is the last time where mongols invade Japan at all so is very unlikely we’ll get a sequel but I do hope they can keep this kind of style and make some new games
Genghis Khan but that one they barely even made out to the surface and most mongols were death before the battle due to storm. And it is a huge win for the Japanese since the beginning not like the first time, but I really hope SP can keep this Asian artistic style to make something new. Not many developers do that in the western gaming company.
You made the same haiku as I did. The words just spoke to me, couldn't pick anything else. And i too spared lord shimura. Choosing to kill him would undo all the sacrifices Jin has made. 12/10 game. Really hope we get a sequel.
Thanks Sony for giving us this kind Masterpiece and love the games that ps exclusive they are all very good games with beautiful story lines. This game is my second best story based game after God of war
Never played the game but man does this fight seem amazing! They showed no hatred towards each other, only sadness and regret that their paths must cross like this. And they still walk away still calling each other family.
The uncle was a good man but too obsessed with honour that he couldn't see the good Jin had done. But i spared him because he was the only family Jin had left.
This final battle was nothing short of high art. The fight with Khotun Khan, and the Khan's stereotypical "big bad guy" character in general, felt relatively weak, but this last battle makes it clear that the story was never about just "fighting the Mongols". The build up, the haiku, and the choice at the end was especially difficult; you either do the honorable thing and kill the man who has only ever loved you like a son, or let him live but dishonor him forever. Story and build up, it is easily one of the best and most heartbreaking that I've ever played. Masterpiece of writing and animation. I DON'T KNOW, MAYBE DO A CASE STUDY ON THIS, NAUGHTY DOG. MIGHT HELP.
I just finished playing this game for myself on PS5 for the first time and all I can say is WOW! The graphics, the set pieces, the dialogue, the action, the stances, the weapon variety, the armor variety, the music, the main story, the side tales, the haikus🔥🔥🔥 I’ve never played a game as beautiful as this. Closest I’ve coke was playing God of War 4 and 5. The irony and beauty of Jin’s character is that he has done many “dishonorable” things, but for the honorable cause of saving Tsushima, and its people. Hats off to the creators of this game
I always thought that the character models, especially on the faces could have been better, but for some reason in this scene it's terrific. It's like they saved the best for last lol

remember when Shimura said don't let your emotion control you ? here Lord Shimura can't control his emotion he was too weak in the fight as the last boss because he can't do it you can hear it in his voice and words "it's my punishment" and he also cries which shows how he emotionally went ... That's why i like Shimura and i felt that he was my family and he was real ... Note : I played the whole game in hard mode and Shimura was very weak compared to other duels
Shimura was honestly pretty easy compared to Khan, Ryuzo and the other bosses. But I think it makes the fight more impactful, how you're forced to win against him.
I had no idea this was coming. I knew I was gonna be an outcast but I didn't know his uncle was gonna do it. It threw me off. I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after finishing the game. Such a good twist full of detail and support.
GOT has so much heart. This scene makes your eyes well up with tears, just as any brilliant movie would. The music is perfect, the acting and writing is impeccable.
God they knocked it out the freaking park with this game. The atmosphere, the voice acting, the gameplay, the characters. This game is pretty much perfect.
I actually like the ending better where you honor his wish and kill him. I convinced myself that he was already going to die of blood loss and would probably commit seppuku if I didn’t kill him. That ending is extremely emotional and sad, but also beautiful.
it's an ongoing debate on "Kill" or "Spare", my take on it is that "Spare" is more in character with Jin at the end of the game, like finally embracing his own code instead of the samurai code. there's a lot of comments that it may just result to Shimura committing seppuku later anyway, and that may be the case yes, but Jin decides not to take any part in it. he is just done with it by the end of the game...
Well in game Yuna says he doesn’t do that and in the end Jin writes him letters so it’s implied he lives, especially since he’s needed to train the new Samurai for the Shogun.
I killed him out of respect than honor. Its what Shimura wanted in this last fight if he lost and I feel its what he deserves in end after living so dilgently

I'm not sure if shimura will die but I know he isnt dead because I heard a few peasants talking about how "Lord Shimura got to the castle gates and collapsed, the samurais had to carry him in" etc and that it'll take a few months for him to heal,

The representation i'm getting from the colored leaves they both sit on.
Jin sitting on the white leaves represents him defending the people he cares for at any cost and gaining freedom from the code.
Shimura sitting on the red leaves represents him being a slave to the code and having to spill his son's blood for it.

@@ishraque3601 Shogun is more powerful than Shimura so I doubt that whole Japan would be mad. Even whole Tsushima wouldn't be mad (Yarikawa hated Shimura). Shogun would order him to commit seppukku and would disband his clan. Killing him is a better option.
What is amazing in this fact is the detail : You are forced to wear the ronin armor, who is essentially "a samurai without a master". Which is what Jin becomes at the end of the story.
I must be the only one who uses the Sakai sword and not the others. To me, that’s Jin’s signature weapon and the sword he used canonically throughout the game.
No I did the same thing for the same reason.
At first I used the Hero of Tsushima blade just 'cause the gold looks cool. But after Jin fully became the ghost and was exiled I used the Sakai blade.

@@greentea1941 Bro, I have seen many fictions who can even make a fight with stranger villain feels more emotional, due to build up and good interactions between the characters. For example, Raiden vs Sam in MGR, Snake vs Ocelot in MGS.
Ellie and Abby only meet each other 3 times in the game and they have literally zero interactions in each meet up. Of course players won't feel anything for their fight.

I really love this ending, it shows how Jin even though he became a ruthless fighter who taken down the Khan and even saved not only Tsushima but the main island where the Shogun is, he is hunted by the same people who fought for his same cause. Not because he defeated the mongols in a dishonorable way, but because he embraced The Ghost persona who sent a precedent for the common people to follow a different figure and in general threaten the Shogun's leadership, Jin opened his eyes and his mind when he become this figure to protect Tsushima and its people at all costs, when Shimura still puts the honor and his servitude to his superior above everything, even his nephew and the people of the island. Their fight shows how Shimura's blind faith made him try to kill his own family who risked everything to rescue him, and Jin victory and choice of kill or spare equally shows how he loves his uncle nevertheless(Killing him fullfil his desires of dying a honorable death, and Sparing him shows how The Ghost is not the monster the Shogun paint him to be and how Jin won't let himself to see another paternal figure get killed)

I like the leaves forming a yin yang in white and red. Also you can catch shimura crying. As much as a slave to honor as he is, he still doesn't relish the idea of killing jin

To me sparing him is the canonical ending. Jin was literally telling Shimura moments before this that he had become a slave to honor. So him killing Shimura honorably literally goes against their entire argument they had with each other the whole game and before the final fight. Jin putting on the ghost mask one last time to his uncles disappointment is literally the perfect ending. The other ending goes against everything the entire game built up in my opinion. To the point where I question why they even bothered to have two different endings to begin with.
It also acts as proof that Jin still has honour and hammers home the implicit message of the game that honour isn't strictly tied to the system of Bushidō, just like the other ending does.
In the sparing ending, Jin fully rejects all of Bushidō and his Uncle's wishes to demonstrate his commitment to breaking away from his Uncle's way of thinking.
In the killing ending, Jin demonstrates that just because he has betrayed the code and gone his own way, that doesn't mean he is without honour.
Both endings showcase that Jin has rejected Bushidō's strict concepts of honour for his own more flexible moral code and act as equally viable endpoints for Jin's metamorphosis.
There are two ways to interpret Jin's actions towards his uncle's request. The first is that Jin completely rejects the code, which leads to him leaving his family behind as a demonstration of his commitment. The second interpretation is that Jin ceremonially cuts ties with the code through one final "honourable" act while also severing his last link. This action ensures that Jin can never go back to the code again.
The kill ending is still more emotional tho as Shimura accepts Jin as his son after everything. In the spare option Shimura will probably still have to commit seppuku and they part ways on a bitter note
This is better than many movies, the animation and voice-over is masterful

This was beautiful. The final clashing of blades between teacher and student, between "father" and "son". I love final battles like these, where the culmination of everything they've exchanged builds up to the final swipe of the blade.

Genghis Khan but that one they barely even made out to the surface and most mongols were death before the battle due to storm. And it is a huge win for the Japanese since the beginning not like the first time, but I really hope SP can keep this Asian artistic style to make something new. Not many developers do that in the western gaming company.

Never played the game but man does this fight seem amazing! They showed no hatred towards each other, only sadness and regret that their paths must cross like this.
And they still walk away still calling each other family.
The uncle was a good man but too obsessed with honour that he couldn't see the good Jin had done. But i spared him because he was the only family Jin had left.

This final battle was nothing short of high art. The fight with Khotun Khan, and the Khan's stereotypical "big bad guy" character in general, felt relatively weak, but this last battle makes it clear that the story was never about just "fighting the Mongols". The build up, the haiku, and the choice at the end was especially difficult; you either do the honorable thing and kill the man who has only ever loved you like a son, or let him live but dishonor him forever. Story and build up, it is easily one of the best and most heartbreaking that I've ever played. Masterpiece of writing and animation.

I just finished playing this game for myself on PS5 for the first time and all I can say is WOW! The graphics, the set pieces, the dialogue, the action, the stances, the weapon variety, the armor variety, the music, the main story, the side tales, the haikus🔥🔥🔥 I’ve never played a game as beautiful as this. Closest I’ve coke was playing God of War 4 and 5. The irony and beauty of Jin’s character is that he has done many “dishonorable” things, but for the honorable cause of saving Tsushima, and its people.

Shimura was honestly pretty easy compared to Khan, Ryuzo and the other bosses. But I think it makes the fight more impactful, how you're forced to win against him.

I had no idea this was coming. I knew I was gonna be an outcast but I didn't know his uncle was gonna do it. It threw me off. I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after finishing the game. Such a good twist full of detail and support.
GOT has so much heart. This scene makes your eyes well up with tears, just as any brilliant movie would. The music is perfect, the acting and writing is impeccable.

I actually like the ending better where you honor his wish and kill him. I convinced myself that he was already going to die of blood loss and would probably commit seppuku if I didn’t kill him. That ending is extremely emotional and sad, but also beautiful.

This final boss scene is so serene and beautiful
it's an ongoing debate on "Kill" or "Spare", my take on it is that "Spare" is more in character with Jin at the end of the game, like finally embracing his own code instead of the samurai code. there's a lot of comments that it may just result to Shimura committing seppuku later anyway, and that may be the case yes, but Jin decides not to take any part in it. he is just done with it by the end of the game...
Well in game Yuna says he doesn’t do that and in the end Jin writes him letters so it’s implied he lives, especially since he’s needed to train the new Samurai for the Shogun.
I killed him out of respect than honor. Its what Shimura wanted in this last fight if he lost and I feel its what he deserves in end after living so dilgently
I've just finished the game and I felt that I had to honor him, he takes honor above all the other things. I didn't get a good feeling after my decision, but I think that's right.
I love the detail of where Jin is wearing ronin armour foreshadowing that he is no longer apart of a samurai clan
