Nathan Astle 222 off 168 balls - the best cricket innings ever! Biggest sixes you've ever seen!

- This is a re-upload of the greatest test innings of all time (in my opinion anyway!) by Nathan Astle playing for NZ against England in 2002.
Nathan Astle came in at #5 when NZ were 119/3 chasing a mammoth 550 to win. With Chris Cairns injured and not even sure he would bat, Astle let rip scoring the fastest double hundred of all time in test cricket, scoring at a rate that would be impressive even in a T20!
Astle's 200 came up in 217 minutes, from only 153 balls, featuring 27 fours and 9 sixes. Astle was the last man dismissed for NZ, ending up on 222 off 168 balls, with 28 fours and 11 sixes. His partnership with Cairns for the 10th wicket was 118 runs in 55 minutes, off just 69 balls. NZ lost the game by 98 runs, scoring an incredible 451 off just 93.3 overs.

Even Viv Richards would have been stunned at this display of explosive and controlled batsmanship.
This is when cricket was at its best , proper bowling attack , classic commentary ..
The third 6 off caddick is one of the cleanest shots I've ever seen. Absolutely smoked it.
Thorpe who passed away yeterday scored England’s fastest 200 the previous day and wouldn’t have imagined his monumental effort would so easily and quickly be overshadowed by Nathan. The only consolation for England is that they still won. As an England fan, it was fun initially but then it got increasingly nervous. Even though it was made by an opposition batsman, sometimes you just need to doff your hat and say “well played”. Well played, Astle
RIP Thorpey
Shoutout to Robelinda2, your work will forever be appreciated!
His channel is back with almost all the videos
@@MukeshPanickeris that really him tho?
@@user-ve2yw4xe2nit’s not him it’s one of his subscribers and a long time fan of his work. He literally took a week off from work to DL all videos right after 2nd strike and started uploading every video one by one. He did amazing work. I know this because he posted the same thing when he created this new channel. It was a lot of hard work considering he uploaded 9 years worth of videos in 1 week. Also added link to original Roblinda purchase coffee as it was his good work. Also this new channel is non monetised.
When astle was in form he was as good as anyone
Still the crispest bat on ball sound ever.
Shout out to Caddick for taking a stump with himself at the end of the match as memorable for his special treatment by Nathan 😂😂😂🙌🏻🙌🏻
Very Underrated Cricketer
watched this llive and was stunned as no one at that time attacked like this ...where were it might be its demolishing attack with just one wicket.if he had stayed a little patient he could have went on to score fastest 300 and also won the match that will be in history .still this is history.
The most brutal batting in the test cricket I ever witnessed. Astle went ballistic after he reached his 100.
listened to a lot of this in the UK in the middle of the night, on a weekend away. The pitch was a "drop-in" so started damp, and just got better to bat on. Thorpe & flintoff getting hundreds
Amazing game
Missing this healthy and pure cricket 😥
The forgotten man of NZ cricket. He propped up many an inning for NZ in tests and ODIs, and deserves better acknowledgment of his overall record and achievements. He's certainly the one I remember most from my years following the Black Caps from that time when I was at school. He wasn't the biggest Astle, but put saw off so many menacing, or formidable World bowling attacks with his clean stroke making. Also, great to listen once more to Martin Crowe commentating. What a batter he was too. Never forgotten.
Astle played EA sport cricket game before it introduced just wow 😅
This record is yet to be surpassed
Beast Mode at it's peak, Still exist this record 🔥
Mark Nicholas commentary is also ❤
My all time handsome big hitter and sweet opening batsman ever
Stick cricket fs

still no one can beat this record...!!!
Great batting...what a stylish batsman
I watched this innings of astle with cairns in the morning hours in tv live. Unbelievable
Let's just salute him!
We can call Nathan astle as viv Richards of New Zealand
as a batter, I'd noticed.. when you're in this 'angry as*-kickin-astle' mode.. shots that you thought weren't a part of your repertoire tend to come out and surprise you in a very pleasant way!
Underrated
MAINE BHI YAHI SOCHA THA CLAASICAL BATING BATSMAN INNING NATHAN SIR CLASSICAL STYLE❤😮😊
Astle Is underrated player.
Still bat sounds are fresh
The best innnings ever in a losing cause

Stylish player astle.

NEW ZELAND VS ENGLAND TEST MATCH KIWI IS MY BEST TEAM
England's premier strike bowler who was born in NZ.
The irony.
Best ever knock in history any form ..tests r more diff to score
Surprised no Indian fan has given you 100 innings of Tendulkar, Laxman, Dravid, Ganguly, Kohli, Rohit, et al that are a “million” times better than this.
But truly special innings. Personally I like Gavaskar’s last test innings of 96 against a very good Pakistan attack on a Bangalore minefield in 1987 more. Pakistan had 3 spinners who were weaving webs around the rest of the Indian batting (Azharuddin scored 26, I think everyone else scored in single figures). Gavaskar displayed batsmanship of the highest quality, you need to watch it to believe it. Coincidentally, that was made in a losing cause too.
Awesome batting❤🎉
That sound…..my god
That was shotgun stuff... Bang bang bang...
Real inning start from 18.12 MAMMA MIAAAA😎😎
Lucky he didn’t have a modern bat
Nathan Astle is the early modern father of aggressive and fearless openers., Sehwag is neat
Wow just wow
On of the foreign national Star of my childhood...#astle
Remember hearing about this as a 12 year old. Mythical stuff.
In this innings, nathan killed andrew caddick career.
That must have been the finest single piece of Kookaburra willow they ever produced. Sounded like cracking thunder.
CHRIS CRAINS SIR
