Yes, he can play good shots against macgrath, because he can play shots on the raise. Loving player, still remembering his famous 200+ with England in test match. Fleming team was awesome, Astle, Carins, harries etc.
Nathan Astle is one of the fastest batsman in New Zealand batting lone up. He was very agreesive when he did not ball well or batting well. Overall he was cute, honest and reliable batsman in New Zealand.
Nathan astle and Abdul razzac are the two batsmen who have confidently played against the premier Aussie fast bowler even Sachin and Lara was scared of McGrath
It was best Australian team that time however astle is beating them badly, today's kid doesn't know who was astle ,a very dangerous batsman he was playing fine every shot.
Brilliant knock... you could tell by his expression at 3:23 Warnie is thinking "how can I get one to drift back in so he plays straight?"... 2 balls later, he got him. Two masters, that time Warne got the better of Astle. We always seemed to do well when he and Fleming batted well at the start.
Because Sachin had pressure of millions of people... He was best batsman , so not played attacking cricket.. he had to play safely ... SACHIN gone , India lost .. Sometimes he also attacked Macgrath
In today's world the chasing team would have won it. Less than a run a ball from the last 25 overs and with wickets in hand as well but they made a mess of it and were bowled out for 250, I think.
That was half the problem in that era. So many potential matchwinners but only ever one or two fired and usually fizzled out in the mid 200's. Fleming Astle Cairns McMillan Twose Harris Parore Vincent if they all fired at once, that would be an awesome batting lineup capable of 350's no sweat. Just a shame they didn't do it often enough. I guess the '99 Champions Trophy, 4th in the '98 World Cup and top 6 in 2002 were the best we got.
There are three major reasons behind that champ.. 1) today's state of pitches is a joke ..flat as cement wickets.. 2) the absurd rule of having at least 5 fielders in the inner circle 3) and the most important one.. The use of two balls..never makes the ball older and softer where scoring becomes very very difficult... And there is absolute no reverse swing.. Basically these days they have made limited overs cricket nothing but a joke... Too much in favor of batsmen..
@@romeshsomani8459 because majority of the pitches were very slow. Otherwise 220 is a walk in the park in the modern era. Even the good pitches during the WC 2019 produced high scoring affairs. NZ vs WI, SA vs AUS, BD vs SA etc.
Its bcoz powerplays have changed and made batting easy these days. Pitches are made for high scores and boundaries are shorter too. Its not a fair compition between bat and ball these days. More entertaining though, so all good but modern day batsman cannot be compared to pre 2010 era batsman.
Astle playing McGrath like this shows the level of cricket back in the day. Sadly, the standard has gone down drastically and weirdly at the same time. Bowlers holding the best strike rates look ordinary in batting conditions. Starc and Cummins are hailed as the best duo in the world but they are almost useless in subcontinent. Recently, Indian batsmen feasted on them and hammered them everywhere. Imagine two Ws, Walsh, Ambrose and Donald ripping apart batting lineups on the batting friendly wickets. Cricket isn't fun anymore. I would still prefer watching McGrath bowling 132 Ks than modern day bowler bowling 150 and getting stick allover.

@@AndyParry82 during 2002 ,, india tour of nzl ,, 150 is a match winning score ,, before that in 1999/2000 aus tour of newzealand both teams used to score 300 + in every match ....
Why Newzealand is always behind Australia in Cricket? Simple - their batsmen have never been as consistent as the Aussies. In Australia one could always count on Gilly, Hayden, Ponting, Clarke, Martyn, Symonds, Lehmann, Bevan, Hussy and one of them used to always perform in every match those days. Whereas in Newzealand Fleming, Astle, McMillan, Twose, Cairns, Parore were not that consistent and used to score big occasionally and not as frequently like the Aussies
That Australian and NZ jersy, that scorecard.. Nostalgia!!!
And green wicket.
😋
Nathan astle one of the great opening batsmen of nz team and will play valuable knocks for the team
