Malay called this place as bukit bendera, remember this island is belong to malay not Chinese but Chinese became majority and changed name to Chinese. Penang is how Englishman said but in malay it's called pinang. This island also got a lot of China, Japanese and Taiwanese because of factory from those countries opened here
