- Warner Bros seems completely content to smash their heads against a brick wall following the failure of Suicide Squad. In recent statements made to press Warner bros has made its intentions clear, that it will continue to try to force a live service success, regardless of possible over saturation in that market, and will be unlikely to focus on single player AAA games going forward.
All in All it spells grim tidings for those of us hopeful to see a Hogwarts Legacy sequel and a return to the beloved Batman Arkham Games from Rocksteady.

WB are well within there right not to make single player games, just like im well within mine to never buy any of there games XD
No wonder they're 44 billion in debt. They deserve to close down if they can't comprehend what their audience wants.
As a huge hogwarts legacy and Harry Potter fan I can confirm we don’t want a live service Harry Potter game😂
Idk how they saw how huge hogwarts legacy sold and thought it’d do anywhere close to that with a rotating microtransaction shop and live service nonsense baked in.
@@orb-o-ponderer right like even though hogwarts legacy itself isn’t a masterpiece of a game it’s exactly what is Harry Potter fans wanted and you can tell it was a game made by fans for fans but of course they wanna throw all that out the window and try a love service micro transaction filled cash grab. I can confirm if they tried this shit I would not be buying that game and I broke my rule for preordering games with hogwarts legacy I didn’t even do that for Elden ring.
What if it was a MMO?
@@dragondude9637 me personally I hate mmos so no.
Ditto
Warner Brothers has lost my support permanently I'm not completely sure what they own for IP's but if a game has a WB on it be sure I will be looing hard at it before I even think of spending money on it the days of being a company fanboy are long over I used to buy everything Blizzard, Rocksteady, Volition, Bethesda, CD Projekt Red, etc. would release but that is over now and I have to do research before hand.
And I'm done with "live service games" ...let's see how this all ends
I've studied economics and business management and marketing in my young years and I can't fathom how WB reached a conclusion like this especially when they have concrete financials for these projects where it clearly shows which approach is clearly more profitable. Just because live service is more profitable in "theory" doesn't mean a thing, especially when you don't need a master's degree to see that there is a clear aversion against the practice within the customer base. This is quite literally completely insane decision making driven 100% by pure unadulterated greed with 0 future proofing or planning.
You said it well. It just seems like trend chasing and ignorant to the reality that is all the games that try and fail miserably to be successful live service games.
It's not just the WB gaming division. Their entire company is wack.
The suits arent gamers but goddammit they need gamer advisors to keep em on track and also to steer em away from anything woke
We should START A PETITION 💯
We should start a gaming company that cares more about games than yachts.
Warner Bros is just going to be in a similar direction with EA at this point.
Yeah in a lot of ways I agree, but EA is way more forward with their plans to still invest in single player games .
WB: we bombed so hard we need 10 years of mobile gaming to recover
Lmao
That’s fine. I just won’t buy anything from Warner brothers. If all they want to focus on is live service games then I simply just won’t support them.
Nothing like making a bestseller and then doubling down on a live service and failing. Only to say “hey we’re just gonna keep doing live service” 😂. Thank goodness there’s a bunch of other companies I can focus my time in.
Hogwarts legacy 2 is gonna have time gated daily /weekly spell progression, calling it now.
@@orb-o-pondererhonestly i cant see any value in a hogwarts legacy 2. the whole appeal was an open world hogwarts map. the actual content wasnt that insane. so i coukd see a sequal doing rather poorly
Loll. I'm sick of live service games. I want to play what I want to play when I want to play it. I'm not dedicated to "one game" 🤣
My time is limited and I won't be dedicating it to several "live service" games. If I choose to play a live service it better be damn good like star wars galaxies back in the day.
I'm just as guilty as most for speaking with my wallet and showing that I'll give the most money to live service games... But good luck competing for that time. You need to make something outstanding and each success will likely have 15+ failed attempts. The first step is making a game I want to put thousands of hours into.
There’s so many of these games trying to be the main time sink for players, destiny 1 and 2 has a couple thousand hours from me, apex maybe got 100 , poor attempts like babylons fall just aren’t going to cut it .
just wait they will be back all companys cant win the online games too much competition maybe one online service game but a company cant have growth putting all the eggs in one basket not to mention the phone market taking a slice warner are too late they will fail or get low interest if they cant even make suicide squad work in single how are they going to take slice of the live ghetto how much time do they think gamers have to game it getting to much i like to change games not play the same old game forever so leave the live service the the streamers
Capcom is fine because they know that they have monster hunter always waiting to crush sales. And look it's a single player with a 4 player option. Which I've put in 1 hour as opposed to my current of almost 10,000 hours in single
Well i'm done with WB so this works out perfect for me.
When I see a co-op/multi-player component I know that the live service elements are not far behind.
After Gotham knights and the recent rpg, looter brawler/shooter gear centric games like Assassins creed games I've also become more cautious especially if those components are the focus.
The new ac nexus stuff worries me but I’m hopeful ubi will let ac be ac. If they still had multiplayer , as fun as brotherhoods was for me and my friends back then, I wouldn’t be first in line to trust them.
@@orb-o-ponderer i actually miss the multiplayer of assassins creed. I hate that they took it away although with that being said, I do not want a multiplayer only assassins creed game. I prefer when games have both a single player and a multiplayer option in one game like GTAV. It feels like a complete package to me. When they seperate the multiplayer into a seperate game, it just kills my interest which is why I never cared to play Elder Scrolls online. Also PVp based multiplayer like what assassins creed had are actually good and way better than the looter shooter style multiplayer which I think are straight up boring.
And I’m done with Warner Brothers. Let them fail
Single player games take more work than a multiplayer game which makes it more costly than multiplayer.
I think it depends on the scope of the game, something like Hyperscape that was short lived was probably much cheaper than say Hogwarts Legacy, but something like Suicide Squad probably cost very close to Hogwarts.
@@orb-o-ponderer That is true, but I was speaking generally. Hogwarts Legacy took about 4 years, Suicide Squad about 9 years, Where as Hyper Scape was a 2 year dev cycle.
Sure, sure, it costs less in that you don't really need to pay writers for a complete story...
But server costs aren't insignificant either.
The reality is, companies want to dog-pile live service games because IF they corner the market on the "next big thing" it's practically guaranteed to piss money for years with little to no major cost investments. Just look at the EA formula, shit out a live service game, it wasn't an instant success? end support and close the studio. That's why, they want the next Fortnite.
A good single player or co-op game only makes money once... unless you're Bethesda repacking Skyrim for the 15th time.
@@orb-o-ponderer thats because suicide squad was trying to go for a poor fusion of single player and multiplayer like most looter shooters. Would have cost less if it was just a straight up arena style pvp shooter with no fake storyline
They should just partner with Fortnite and be done with it.
(2:13) You can't "attrition in". Attrition is bleeding out while "accretion in" or "accrete" would be gaining players over time.
(4:15) WBD is not a gaming company; they're a publicly-traded IP warehouse and corporation. It's about "maximizing shareholder equity" and "return on investment". That means "pay-by-bullet" trumps even the worst of reviews.
(10:09) "...pivot back..." I don't know. The movie studios (New Line, Castle Rock, etc.) are all bleeding out money and WB seems to have no interest in "pivoting back" to working formulae. $2.1B loss in Q4 despite Hogwarts Legacy, The Last of Us, and Barbie. It's cowardice mixed with an obsession for milking nostalgia. I don't think they're going to stop until they get bought by Disney.
Adding that to my vocabulary thanks ! Yeah I know they're not, the person in question was speaking at an event mainly targeted towards investors and business folks so I understand the sentiment of his comments but Suicide Squad should have been a lesson, play to your strengths or get the right people to allow you to explore outside of it, I don't think WBD gaming division is going to do either with regards to their next projects in gaming.
Warner bros did shutdown rooster teeth
rip rooster teeth; knew a dude who worked there
Cool I’m done with Warner bros games then 🎉
Actually it means gamers are finished with Warner Bros games
then we are done with WB
Bro how am i gonna play games like superman and the flash wb single player gave you money theyre so afraid of money they just want to make crap
Hogwarts legacy was a shallow gaming experience, suffers from the same problems from most modern media does - too much focus on setting and not on the story and character quality/development. Thats when i knew what this game is about. I will be doing better research for any sequels, lesson learned
Really? Then I am done with Warner Bros.
Impressive video explaining the current situation. Also I swear to god if they make a Hogwarts Legacy 2 and make live service and ruin what came before just like Suicide Squid Kill The Justice League I WILL TURN TO THE FUCKING DARK SIDE!
Thank you ! Yeah I do not trust WB to just give people who loved the first game a pure sequel with no nonsense tacked on but I’d love for them to surprise us all and do it justice
these companies follow te money, if single player games were more profitable than live service they would focus on single player. unfortunately this may leave people like me who prefer single player games behind, but that is the way the world works. we still are a market that will be appealed to but not like we used to, come to terms with that and move on.
How many live service games succeed or turn profit? What perfect?
I agree they are profit motivated but what I’m saying is the next 5 live service games they dump a collective billion dollars in that ultimately fail is antithetical to a profit driven business , esp when your studios are not well positioned to deliver that kind of game, they’d be better off leaning into their strengths, ie single player games
it is a market but put yourself in there shoes. would you spend millions making a live service game when most of them fail and lose noney in hopes of it landing and doing well. its like investing your life savings on lottery tickets
@@orb-o-ponderer Any business venture has inherent risk. without going too in depth, ill just ask a simple question. if you had to invest all your personal money into a video game solely with the intention of making money from it, would you invest in a game like fortnite or a game like soul calibur? there is no wrong answer
@@KarnageGaming there is o promise in any business venture, however, live service games have a huge potential while single player games have a very limited potential that is nowhere near as big as games like fortnite for example.
Make a game woke, expect it to fail.
broh, why tf do you have only 40 subs????????????????
I’m pretty new to this haha , all good things take time :)
@@orb-o-ponderer you deserve a lot more, just sayin..
I will earn it from you all 🫡
I’m not going to lie they need a multiplayer Harry Potter for hogwarts 2. There’s so many games that are single player that deserve co-op
I would be down with co-op, especially if they implemented some kind of synergistic spell castingz
Enjoy the live service that accompanies that co-op you want so badly.
Id rather have some PvP and a Quidditch addition.
Its not a big deal and besides this video and the rest of the comments that were complaining like children deserve to be blamed.
Be mad at me all you want, but I am both cross and annoyed by all of you. 😡👎👎
I respect the difference of opinion, and certainly people are spending on live service and that looks like an enticing market to wrangle a piece of from Warner bros, but people by and large with regards to WB games have spoken with their wallets by supporting games like Hogwarts Legacy and less so games like Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad , not sure what other signal consumers can send to execs at WB Games.
@orb__O__ponderer Again not concerned about money. If you hate WB then petition, riot I don't care.
I am in for narratives only. Tell that Suicide Squad and Hogwarts legacy for crying out loud
@@RRai2000 what are you blabbering about?????
@vice2versa I am not talking to any of guys. If you hate WB, keep me out of it.
@@RRai2000 you make zero sense
