And it's also something that the company who does own the game can even just randomly take away and delete at any time on top of that. I don't wanna be that guy, but games as service products are a trap and scams. I've always felt this way for years and I haven't seen anything to change my mind about that yet. That's why I refuse to support them.
What's crazy is marvel saw how great Batman was made spiderman. And now is doing that idea with giving us Wolverine. I hope marvel keeps different hero games coming out like this
Yeah Linear Games were dead to them. Now They also have dead space Remake. Keep in mind Battlefield and Many more of their live service games have failed.
Yep now WB is making EA look good. Even the ironman game they are making is going to be a single-player game. Dead space remake, Star wars jedi fallen order and survivor are the types of games I never thought EA would greenlight/publish again after canceling Amy Henning's project ragtag.
Probably in the eyes of WB executives, live-service and single player game are the same things, only that one have microtransaction and the other don't, I get that a single player game can't do more money after a period of time but they don't understand that it won't even matter if their live-service game don't do even a fraction of what a single player game like the Arkham games will bring

Perfect example/s of single player made with passion, well crafted, with appreciation for the fans, and look how well they are doing. Highly recommend ANYBODY to check them out. Point 3. All the Founders of Rocksteady are gone aswell. R.I.P DC man. I much prefer DC over Marvel and currently both are doing terribly movie wise. But at least Marvel has The games division holding them up Insomniac being their tallest and strongest pillar and Wolverine not being far behind i honestly wish WB would just licence the rights to Playstation or another compatent Publisher to get their name sumwhat out the gutter.
Yep I definitely did heard this and even listen to the earning call when David Zaslav brought it up and I don’t like this live service direction push at all straight up look at how the Avengers game ended up for a example giving a sad chance with how the Suicide Squad game going through some heavily problems lately it all have me very cautious and optimistic for future WB Games projects coming up down the line unfortunately my honest thoughts
WB is just the disappointment that keeps on giving. How we haven’t had at least 2-3 Arkham quality games (not just Batman games) since 2015. This indecisiveness is why RockSteady haven’t released a game in nearly 9 years. I don’t have any hope for them at this point.
This is disappointing about WB games they were able to make a trilogy of extraordinary games that stood out and pushed limits Batman Arkham Asylum Batman Arkham City Batman Arkham Knight They stood out in so many elements atmosphere graphics characters combat etc hell Arkham knight still holds up pretty damn well after 8 years so the thing I find disappointing is why stop making single player games why ignore the fans why do they have to make live service games cause eventually I feel like the service to said games will shut down With single player games we wouldn’t have to worry about that and be able to compete the game however we want and just have fun that’s another thing about Arkham is that even after you completed the story there were still secrets and easter eggs to be found dlc to be played challenge maps to get medals in All I will say is The Arkham Games were a blast and nothing will live up to them they are legendary along with the voices behind them Troy baker two face Nolan north penguin Wally wingert riddler Mark hamil joker Tara strong Harley Quinn city and knight Arleen sorkin Harley Quinn asylum R.I.P And Kevin conroy THE BATMAN R.I.P So the fact wb is going to just ditch single player and ignore the Masterpiece that is single player The Arkham Series It’s pathetic and the fact the last batman game we got was Gotham knights which looks like a plastic cut and paste sucks I understand suicide squad kill the justice league is coming soon and will be in the Arkhamverse and is Kevin Conroys last performance Wb games better not screw this up
And to think about all the wb games out there; Batman: Arkham, Lego Batman, Lego Marvel, Mortal Kombat, Injustice, the Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga game, Hogwarts Legacy, and countless other memorable and unforgettably amazing titles. But to think about the direction they're going towards is pretty disappointing to say the least...
As someone who plays exclusively single player games I find this really hard to understand. I don't like online multiplayer because of a number of factors: console players (such as myself) have to pay a live service monthly subscription to play free online games like fortnite, this is just my bad experience with battlefront 2 but I was excited to play an online star wars shooter, but it was completely pay 2 win and would die seconds after spawning.
Something I'd like to see more in the gaming industry are worker cooperatives so that artists really can be in control of their own art. I understand the structure of worker cooperatives offer some advantages and disadvantages that make them better suited for some tasks than others but based on my limited knowledge creative work seems like the perfect place for that sort of enterprise to thrive.
Why cant companies balance live amd single player? Whoever is doing public concensus research (if there is one) doesnt know what people want... they should be fired. I wholeheartedly believe that if theres a majority of live service games and only a few out of the years , then companies will go bankrupt imo
They gone keep trying to force this on us and we gone keep ignoring it until another great company dies because of stockholders who dont know a thing about games
It's depressing how underrated Star Ocean is. Square goes out of their way to chase trends instead of quality, and it shows in their marketing as well.
Don't worry this will bite them in the ass hard, this announcement reeks of not being up to date about how that type of thing goes for other companies who've tried to pull it. It's like their looking straight at EA and ignoring everything else about why they piss so many people off. Single player games are not dead that is a generic excuse the rich snobs use to justify going the live service route. There are so many still selling incredibly well and the train won't be stopping anytime soon. And the most stupid thing is we JUST got out of the strikes for movies, so all the CEO's who dragged it out should be working their asses off to get in everyone's good graces again. But in just like a day or two Zaslav has managed to piss off animation fans and now video game fans. That is the worst thing a CEO could've done at a time like this especially in a year where every movie WB has put out has bombed except for 1, he's practically admitting he wants to nickel and dime Warner brothers fans. So far the only good thing he did was put James Gunn in charge of DC at least for the movie side. From the sounds of it Gunn might not be able to incoprate Video games into his plans like he thought he would be able too.
I said something similar in my comment. Suicide Squad Kill the justice league won't even make up for the marketing costs. One would think those idiots would wake up from the backlash that crap got in the state of play.
Like EA back in 2017, WB will learn their lesson quick and walk this back. Single player games are the most important games within the industry 💯. They are some of most highest selling and critically acclaimed games.
does this sadly mean no 3d open world Games where the main character is Terry as Batman... there's only 1 Batman Beyond game in existence and since it's on PS1 I don't think they ever went with an open world 3rd person perspective
I recently started watching the teen titans show from the early 2000s again and realized how WB is just a waste of a company they don't put interesting shows, movies or games anymore.
I am SO done with this company and zaslav At this point it feels IMPOSSIBLE to get excited for anything DC related So stupid man. Idek if i want to buy suicide squad anymore
It's crazy dude. I'm going for the platinum on city and origins as we speak. my brother and I were litterally just having this conversation. And then I see your video. I hate the fact that wb owns the franchises that they do. DC especially. It's super sad what the future of games with some of the most beloved characters are going to be like. Neatherealm needs to get the hell out of there, but probably can't
Insomniac is the only gaming company that I like right now. They really need to handle triple A superhero games from here on out, cause they actually know what the fuck they’re doing, they care about us fans and they actually do something similar but nowhere as greedy or stupid as live service, for example giving us some popular suits and or updating them to make them better FOR FREE. I would love to see them tackle a DC game down the line, characters like Green Lantern, Blue Beetle, Green Arrow and The Flash would be perfect
A DC hero that could really use a game is Zatanna. A crazy, trippy magic type of game that could definitely have a good enough story and could do a lot on the new consoles and PC.
While DC fans like us would love it, her character is just too obscure for the company to risk banking anything on. With someone like Batman, he's a household name that even the most stubborn of "normies" at least are aware of and recognize. Unfortunately, no one outside of DC Comics fans specifically are really gonna know who Zatanna is. And that isn't gonna sit well with a company who's already iffy about taking risks.
Wasn't there just some news about the new Suicide Squad game being a live service and how that poisoned the perception of the game? I like parts of Gotham Knights but you can tell it was at some point it was meant to have live services attached to it. His point seems like its a few years behind the times, so many games that were live services that BOMBED terribly and costs the company a lot of money.
Haven't visited this channel in a while but I literally came here to suggest you do a video on this. My opinion. Zaslav and WB are gonna push for the live service stuff, right. And then when these new games don't sell, he's gonna think "maybe I was wrong about games; they AREN'T profitable". And then they're gonna stop making them altogether. At least for some time. It's funny though. These WB Games always do well and never have any real controversy surrounding them (aside from Hogwarts Legacy, but that controversy stems from something else entirely). These games are usually always praised until GOTHAM KNIGHTS and now SUICIDE SQUAD. The 2 games that push for this live service/rpg mechanic crap. I mean, Spider-Man 2 just came out and is MASSIVE rn. That's literally the Arkham Games but for Spider-Man. Why not follow that model (which WB originally created). It just enforces everyone's perception of studio execs and how out of touch they are.
I might as well forget about the Wonder Woman or WB Montréal's second project being good. Suicide squad kill the justice league will be the first of many to fail I guess. I'm certainly not a pay pig to be nickel and dimed. Let's see suicide squad not recouping it's marketing costs. I'll just sit back and watch the carnage.
Job listing stated that live service elements could be in there. Under a "nice to have" list or something podcast now covered it and showed screenshots
This is the part were I appreciate with all my heart and soul that I'm a retro gamer and collector. I've been sensing this kind of direction change in gaming companies for a while now. I've long since suspected that they all want to switch literally EVERY new product here soon to "games as a service" for the micros and "gotchya" business models for gaming. WB being one of the latest to switch over is a sad revelation, but not wholly unexpected, sadly. Look, I'm not against online gaming, or playing games online. What I AM against is the whole system of the "gotchya" model were, not only is the game infested with nothing but micro transactions, but then they add in extra steps of creating their own "token" system of fake currency, make you pay for that first, BEFORE and then you can use that fake currency to finally purchase the item you want. I wouldn't be against digital gaming and would've even support it if these newer games haven't started transitioning over to these kind of business models. Honestly, as far as I;m concerned, these kind of business models are nothing more than legalized gambling at best, and at worst, legalized scamming. It's sad. I'm old enough that I've been around the video game evolution and revolution since after the original NES came out, and it looks like this is how it ends up? Thanks, no thanks. I'll stick with my retro collection were I get to play with my physical games to my heart's content. Games that I only pay for ONCE, by the way. I really feel bad for these new kids just getting into gaming now. This will be their new "norm" and they won't even bat an eye at it.
I don’t know how the licensing works for these IPs but can a studio other than rocksteady or WB montreal make their own Batman game? Or are there specific studios that are allowed to work with the brand name? Imagine a current gen Batman game…
Nice video. I agree with some but not with the bashing of WB making it Batman focused and trying to do a green lantern and superman game. Both are problematic to do. A green lantern game would never sell outside the comic book fan audience no matter how good it is, the character is still niche to the casual comic book community.
man when i first start with superheros it was batman and DC and i really love there characters and when marvel started with there movies i started liking them too and there's some DC games i would love to see but with WB always online i dont think its gonna happen with me. well atleast we got marvel and i have not play spiderman 2 yet. marvel is gonna keep tearting DC apart if WBs dont get there act together. man its a good thing i came to time with batman in 1989 than superman.
It seems like WB and a lot of other big organizations fail to understand initial profit and net profit if they took there time marketing appealing to fans ideas within reason of course they would make more money over all but for someone reason they just don't.
I’m not sure who WB’s voice of customer is. It may just be their shareholders and not the end-use customer. Determining their voice of customer will answer the questions as to why they are moving to online-based play. Quality will determine whether the people continue to play it and WB has great intellectual property and their fingertips. People will buy it based on the IP. Getting the voice of the end use customer to determine the longevity of the game.
Monolih seem to be the only good studio in WB . Wonder woman game is their upcoming game . Rocksteady is dead after Sefton Hill leaving the studio and suicide squad seems to stay a live service game
Single-player games do matter here. Arkham Knight, still to this day, looks and feels like a game that was made today. Incredible story, amazing combat and compelling characterisation all blends together to make it stand the test of time. Multiplayer, on the other hand, is tricky; there's a certain unbalance to it. Console players are not as fortunate; look at PlayStation, for example. As someone who's been a lifelong PlayStation fan, its subscription service (PS Plus) is an extortion. In addition to paying £60-£70 for a massive AAA game over here in the UK, you also pay a fee to play the multiplayer aspects of that game. And that hurts a lot of people, myself included, who don't have the luxury of being able to throw money at the wall to play those type of "online games". And while it sounds petty that I'm complaining about another way that PlayStation earns money from their consumers, as far as I'm aware, console players are at a disadvantage when it comes to desktop players. Load up the game and they're straight in. It becomes frustrating overtime, especially with my own personal gripes, one of them being that there are games I'd love to 100% complete, get all the Achievements, it's that paywall that holds me and many others back. On top of that, games that don't have that much interest anymore (maybe the Last of Us Remastered for PS4) don't have that many players in multiplayer sessions, in a game where online presence is needed for all of the Trophies. A decision like this made by the corporate executives over at WB Games hurts console players who are either fans of the character or long-time fans of the games produced, but desktop players suffer no significant disadvantage. Because the best single-player games of the year just show: a game doesn't have to include paid-for multiplayer to be good. What matters is the effort put into it, your dedication to giving back to the players who are anticipating your next move when it comes to the development of a game. And in my personal opinion, Insomniac did knock it out of the park with SM2, and Jedi: Survivor was a BLAST to play as well. Those two examples of games that had love and passion put into them by these large developers to tell an intricate story just goes to show that some like WB are all in it for the green.
I fully understand that all of this (gaming), is a business, and ultimately that is what drives decision making. However it’ll never stop winding me up, seeing so many games with unbelievable potential, be ruined by too much input at executive level. I also think the balance between art design, gameplay systems & executive decision is lost far too often. A game such as MWII/Warzone is a great example of it.
Tbh id rather play single player games multiplayer game are not even all that anymore if you’re not playing with your friends . Something so peaceful about single player games sad people think live service games are the future which is horrible.

I hope marvel keeps different hero games coming out like this
Didn't EA go through this like 6 years ago and then immediately found success in Fallen Order?
Yeah Linear Games were dead to them. Now They also have dead space Remake. Keep in mind Battlefield and Many more of their live service games have failed.
Let's hope WB learns the same. But I gotta remind that EA made Fallen Order because Disney told them off due to critizism Battlefront was getting.
@@John-996except for the golden goose that is apex.
Yep now WB is making EA look good. Even the ironman game they are making is going to be a single-player game.
Dead space remake, Star wars jedi fallen order and survivor are the types of games I never thought EA would greenlight/publish again after canceling Amy Henning's project ragtag.
I agree because I feel the live service trend is not going to benefit companies and customers much
Probably in the eyes of WB executives, live-service and single player game are the same things, only that one have microtransaction and the other don't, I get that a single player game can't do more money after a period of time but they don't understand that it won't even matter if their live-service game don't do even a fraction of what a single player game like the Arkham games will bring
I can't wait for the articles talking about suicide squad kill the justice league not recouping marketing costs let alone development costs.
EA " Singelplayer games are dead '
EA maked Stars Wars Fallen Order '
Sold millions '
EA prove EA wrong '
I don't really like it how David zalsv announced they going to focused on live service games it feels like they don't really care but give you a jabbed to the face
I swear man this company hates money
this is why we need an Arkham Origins remaster, it'd get so much online traction now!
We actually don't need that multiplayer part. That actually brought the game down.
@@dustinhogle3844how so it added more content to the game and arkham fans actually enjoyed it i think it was very clever how they pulled it off plus bane was so damn fun to use.
@@dustinhogle3844 thats your opinion, the multiplayer is actually gold, i played it when i was younger, and it was a blast, i miss it, and i hope it gets brought back in a new remaster
Point 1. Arkham was one of, if not THE series that disproved the mantra of ‘single player is dead’. Wild that WB cant see that.
Point 2. RGG with SEGA, yakuza / like a dragon / judgment. Perfect example/s of single player made with passion, well crafted, with appreciation for the fans, and look how well they are doing. Highly recommend ANYBODY to check them out.
Point 3. I have 100% origins more than once. HOW DO YOU GET THAT SUIT? I NEED IT! 🤣
It's that genius running things. He really DOES NOT not what he's doing.
All the Founders of Rocksteady are gone aswell. R.I.P DC man. I much prefer DC over Marvel and currently both are doing terribly movie wise. But at least Marvel has The games division holding them up Insomniac being their tallest and strongest pillar and Wolverine not being far behind i honestly wish WB would just licence the rights to Playstation or another compatent Publisher to get their name sumwhat out the gutter.
i heard that WB will sale the DC rights to Universal studios. i dont know how i feel about that.
Rocksteady been tripping ever since Sefton Hill left.
No surprise WB continues to be asleep at the wheel of DC’s potential beyond Batman. Which ironically includes Batman Beyond.
Jay you speak only FACTS, I couldn’t have said it better
Yep I definitely did heard this and even listen to the earning call when David Zaslav brought it up and I don’t like this live service direction push at all straight up look at how the Avengers game ended up for a example giving a sad chance with how the Suicide Squad game going through some heavily problems lately it all have me very cautious and optimistic for future WB Games projects coming up down the line unfortunately my honest thoughts
I hope better companies take over Batman games and DC, for WB they can go bankrupt!
I hope PlayStation gets the rights to do Batman or Superman
@@Mad.boi_-mcgee Yes definitely!
Great video Jay and I sad that they decide to only make live service instead of single player story games
truly a wb moment
WB is just the disappointment that keeps on giving. How we haven’t had at least 2-3 Arkham quality games (not just Batman games) since 2015.
This indecisiveness is why RockSteady haven’t released a game in nearly 9 years. I don’t have any hope for them at this point.
This is disappointing about WB games they were able to make a trilogy of extraordinary games that stood out and pushed limits
Batman Arkham Asylum
Batman Arkham City
Batman Arkham Knight
They stood out in so many elements atmosphere graphics characters combat etc hell Arkham knight still holds up pretty damn well after 8 years so the thing I find disappointing is why stop making single player games why ignore the fans why do they have to make live service games cause eventually I feel like the service to said games will shut down
With single player games we wouldn’t have to worry about that and be able to compete the game however we want and just have fun that’s another thing about Arkham is that even after you completed the story there were still secrets and easter eggs to be found dlc to be played challenge maps to get medals in
All I will say is The Arkham Games were a blast and nothing will live up to them they are legendary along with the voices behind them
Troy baker two face
Nolan north penguin
Wally wingert riddler
Mark hamil joker
Tara strong Harley Quinn city and knight
Arleen sorkin Harley Quinn asylum
R.I.P
And Kevin conroy
THE BATMAN
R.I.P
So the fact wb is going to just ditch single player and ignore the Masterpiece that is single player The Arkham Series
It’s pathetic and the fact the last batman game we got was Gotham knights which looks like a plastic cut and paste sucks
I understand suicide squad kill the justice league is coming soon and will be in the Arkhamverse and is Kevin Conroys last performance
Wb games better not screw this up
And to think about all the wb games out there; Batman: Arkham, Lego Batman, Lego Marvel, Mortal Kombat, Injustice, the Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga game, Hogwarts Legacy, and countless other memorable and unforgettably amazing titles. But to think about the direction they're going towards is pretty disappointing to say the least...
I am just going to keep supporting DC and forget WB, that’s it.
It just shows you that Warner discovery does not give two flying fucks about gaming 🤦🏾♂️
I want a green arrow game, I will never get it
Why cant companies balance live amd single player? Whoever is doing public concensus research (if there is one) doesnt know what people want... they should be fired. I wholeheartedly believe that if theres a majority of live service games and only a few out of the years , then companies will go bankrupt imo
i hate how WB has access to these franchises i love.
the issue with the live services game
as a whole is it just become sort of like a job
Jay will always be my fav TH-camr nothing better than a crisp meal and dj
From the sounds of it Gunn might not be able to incoprate Video games into his plans like he thought he would be able too.
man thats fuck up.
EA didn’t learn their lesson. Because remember Apex Legends came out and became their golden goose.
@@rexthewolf3149 oh crap, your right 💯🤣
Goood to see you again. Looking good
I rarely play anything online so they lost me as a fan single player story games or the best they are going to lose money behind this bs
oh this sucks on so many levels it ain't even funny but just sad and depressing.
the people that made arkham knight have left wb. nothings going anywhere except wb maybe
Thank you so much 🌼😄
does this sadly mean no 3d open world Games where the main character is Terry as Batman... there's only 1 Batman Beyond game in existence and since it's on PS1 I don't think they ever went with an open world 3rd person perspective
I agree that single player games are better than online games and live service
Getting tired of unfinished live service game
Let this be the last nail in the coffin.
WB has officially killed the Arkham franchise
If it has live service elements vote with your wallet people, it’s really that simple.
I recently started watching the teen titans show from the early 2000s again and realized how WB is just a waste of a company they don't put interesting shows, movies or games anymore.
Love this insight from You and this video. I subbed. I also think Fires of Rubicon will be a GOTY nom.
I am SO done with this company and zaslav
At this point it feels IMPOSSIBLE to get excited for anything DC related
So stupid man.
Gotham Knights SUCKED and MK1 is woke with micro transactions
Insomniac is the only gaming company that I like right now. They really need to handle triple A superhero games from here on out, cause they actually know what the fuck they’re doing, they care about us fans and they actually do something similar but nowhere as greedy or stupid as live service, for example giving us some popular suits and or updating them to make them better FOR FREE.
I would love to see them tackle a DC game down the line, characters like Green Lantern, Blue Beetle, Green Arrow and The Flash would be perfect
We need more artists like George Lucas who are both business savvy and talented.
I’m curious what’s going to happen to the Wonder Woman game that they announced then?
Podcast now covered that the job listing isn't looking good
A DC hero that could really use a game is Zatanna.
W video jay, also I just wanna say that your looking good, like maybe you have lost some weight just something I noticed. Great vid tho 🤝🏾
As a big Arkham guy I’ve been wanting other dc hero games besides Batman for years. There was Wonder Woman but now it’s live service.
EA, WB; what is up with 2 letter companies just not getting it.
Hopefully the Wonder Woman game is good 🤞🏻
Job listing stated that live service elements could be in there. Under a "nice to have" list or something podcast now covered it and showed screenshots
@@baki484 Damn
@@ronniefazzio6979 I hope I'm wrong but it's WB so I'm not getting my hopes up.
@@baki484 We’ll have to wait and see but if it does hopefully it’s just a few cosmetics
Welp we’ll never get a Batman beyond game now… they need to focus on just making great games
So they cancel an already finished film ready to be shown and now this ?damn
When they release " live service games," simply don't buy them. They will then stop making them.
It seems like WB and a lot of other big organizations fail to understand initial profit and net profit if they took there time marketing appealing to fans ideas within reason of course they would make more money over all but for someone reason they just don't.
Facts. I just went back to Arkham asylum and platinumed it on ps4
