Annette Insdorf interviews Hugh Grant and director Marc Lawrence on their new comedy, The Rewrite. The two reunite after previous collaborations on Two Weeks Notice, Music and Lyrics, and Did You Hear About the Morgans?
The Rewrite is a smart contemporary comedy about a once-successful Hollywood screenwriter who, in desperation, accepts a visiting professorship at an upstate college. Politically incorrect and clueless about how to teach, he gets into scrapes with colleagues played by seasoned players like Allison Janney and J.K. Simmons. More important, he learns a lot from an older student, beautifully played by Marisa Tomei, including romance.

I find Hugh to be bright, thoughtful, quite witty, well read, sensitive, Self-degrading, humble and Charming

Hugh is still very handsome, it's actually remarkable so I can't believe she told him "nobody wants to be pretty all life" - like what?! and "you were too beautiful to act" or smth along those lines.

Why does she keep referring to them by their full names and talk to them in the third person?

Does this woman realize she’s the kind of person they’re talking about when they’re decrying pomposity?

Oh Hugh Grant your blew your career man by making all those American based films..what a loss for us.
The magic was Hugh Grant in England with the English sensibilities in the making and the writing..

I agree. I think his best film was "The Englishman who went up a mountain but came down a mountain" and it is never mentioned in interviews!

Annette Insdorf: what a pretentious, self absorbed interviewer she is.

Annoying how the reporter keeps pushing her knowledge on you. Would have been great to let Hugh and Marc talk a bit longer or even longer than her.

Lawrence went to Binghamton. How arch to have it as the site of his film.
