Really helpful demonstration of how to use tone - fascinating to watch depth and distance increasing with each layer. Going to try this out later. One thing though - your idea of a rough sketch would be in the realms of perfection for me! 😉
Yes that's a very good point about terms like 'rough' and 'quick' might ultimately be off putting to beginners. I want to encourage people and not put them off. It was fun sketch but I thought the colour coverage was a bit patchy. Not great paper and maybe a bigger brush. You know what the say about workman blaming tools!! 🤣
your art is AMAZING! I am truly enjoying following along your tutorials. I started watercoloring a few months ago and found line and wash about a month ago. By far, your art inspires me to another level. I'm hooked!
I clicked the link to your gorgeous website & found several lovely reference photos. This particular one wasn't on that page. Just a tip for you in case other have issues too. Looking forward to watching you work. My high school art teacher had us paint the entire gray scale with gauche and then we had to do a still life drawing and zone it out & number each zone on the scale then paint it. It turned out to be my favorite assignment. It was a matchbook from.our local tiny motel & buffet/bar. It was the bible belt so we only had 3 pubs. 😂😂😂 It was quite a controversy to paint that matchbook. Everyone prayed 🙏 for me soul 😂😂😂😂
I've sorted the reference now. Big thanks for the heads up! Love the idea of zoning and painting on a matchbook. I reckon your soul is safe and sound 😄
@@dougjacksonart My bad. I didn't paint on the matchbook. It was my subject for the 10 gray zone painting. I believe we used 9" X 11" watercolor paper. So it was a large painting of a bar & grills matchbook. 😂😂 I loved a controversy. I did a portrait of James Dean from Rebel WOAC movie for my final. I'm grateful for your channel for getting us inspired to make art 🎨 😊
Hi Doug, I discovered from another artist on YT, that comments need to be a minimum five words to 'count' for monetisation. Now I'm aware of that I try to bear that in mind before commenting something pithy. So in future if I ramble on, this will be why (not that I have any problem with rambling 🤣) Pabi 💝 Lovely, useful lesson btw
I need help with this type of perspective, sketching, so please please please do not do a time lapse on that part! You are so great at doing this, and I wanna watch every moment of it
