It's like a kindness boomerang. You do good deeds to others, it will come back to u. U helps others, that is the same as u helps yourself. It will come back to u later or sometime, instantaneous.
Happened to me as well, I was having breakfast with my big family (including my grandparents). And suddenly when we wanted to pay the cashier said someone paid the bill already! The kind person was a nice young lady dining alone, we managed to thank her before she left.
I did it too to tourists and it’s a Malaysian way showing great hospitality and glad you enjoyed it too and it’s so happy to see such hospitality in such hard times as well. You are truly blessed as well my friend. 😊

That was Mamak 24 hours restaurant actually most of them are foreigner from Southern Indiana. But yeah Mamak culture is vibrant especially in big Cities like Kuala Lumpur. For Malay try roadside stall for Nasi Campur or Tom Yam.

If you go to Pakistan also they will treat you..in Islam, it's encouraged to be nice to guests coming to your home, and foreigners or travellers is also considered "guests" If there's no pandemic, you can expect many invitations to our homes, especially during festivities such as Hari Raya or wedding

Kaz try Pak Din ikan bakar Tanglin in Perdana Botanical Gardens. Very famous, busy & crowded during lunchtime. You have to go early. Tanglin also is famous for nasi lemak.
You are welcome. Another you must try is Nasi Beringin in Menara Mutiara in Jalan Liku Bangsar. You can goggle it. Their ayam goreng ie. Fried chicken is very sedap. Also crowded from 12pm. They open their stall at 11am. A lot of people get addicted to this Nasi Beringin who has been in business more than a decade.

Happened when i was wit my parents, strangers paid for our breakfast… maybe becus they saw my parents are elderly, it happened mostly on friday becus muslims encourage to give more charity or donation on that day… hope you will enjoy your stay in malaysia more each day 👍

Kaz, you should ask for the 'Dhal' dip too apart from the Curry dip. You can have it separately or mixed together with the curry. I recommend try separately first.
It is the “law” in friendship whoever left the table first should pay the meal or left some big amount on table… then they can leave. Without doing so it is shameful.
My father always did that. If it looks like there is a family with shabby clothes or a mother eating with many children, if my father has more money, he must go to the counter and then immediately ask the cashier to count the person's table. For me, that thing is like a normal thing in the lives of Malaysians.😊

To add up, i can see that when my family go to a restaurant and we meet my father's/ mother's friend there, we will pay the bill for them. Sometimes they paid for us too. And that's usually depends on who leave the restaurant first.

To add up, i can see that when my family go to a restaurant and we meet my father's/ mother's friend there, we will pay the bill for them. Sometimes they paid for us too. And that's usually depends on who leave the restaurant first.

You also have to realise that sometime the restaurants give you free food not because you are giving them free exposure... but just because they are Malaysian... it is MH... Malaysian Hospitality... You have to understand this... you don't get free for something you give...
