    Great video!!
    I've been to Colombia close to 30 times, mostly Medellin I just got back yesterday😍 no problems nor have a witnessed any problems/crimes etc.. The gentrification has NOTHING to do with the deaths. The deaths are simply robberies and druggings gone wrong. Not that it justifies the deaths but gentrification and locals having issues with it is happening in almost every major popular city in the world due to inflation and other factors. So people looking for inexpensive places to retire and now millions of people are able to work remotely. Why not work/live in a beautiful city like Medellin for about 30% of the cost of the USA but unfortunately that drives up prices for the locals which they resent of course.

    I lived in Medellin for 10 years but recently left for many of the reasons you describe. I live in another region of Colombia where I never hear English or see an expat (I won’t say where). Most of these problems you address in your video became an issue after the pandemic ended. Unfortunately Medellin is a sex destination and when these men started coming in droves it ruined the city. Most stand out through their actions, dress and lack of Spanish and then make things worse by going to the wrong places too late at night. From my observations a high percentage were “one week millionaires” and were there just to party and have fun. Anyone I knew that lived there full time, none are still there. If you want to retire, or live full time, in Colombia, Medellin is not the place.

    This comment comes from a Latin American living in Latin America.
    Remember Colombia has one of the most highly sofisticated organized crime. Cities like Medellin and Cali used to be centers of the greatest and most violent drug cartels and the entire country had guerilla war for many years. There are true badasses there.
    The type of crime you may find there and other Latin American countries is of a higher level than any crime you have heard of in USA, Canada or most western European countries.

    They should really blame their government. Thailand and other countries in SE Asia have tremendously more tourists/expats and don't have close to these financial problems. Instead of doing that though it's easy to blame the gringo. With that being said though, they don't have to worry about me going there.

    • @colcat1
      @colcat1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Both the government and the so called ''''''''''''expats'''''''''''''' are at fault here. The government for being so trusting and the inmigrants for being scum. You could choose to behave, be respectful, not harm the locals and learn the language, but it's easier not doing it and instead taking advantage of the situation until the local government HAS to put laws in place so you can start doing those things like a decent human being would without them huh?
      Accountability is kriptonite for your kind. Countries in SE Asia are suffering from gentrification aswell, thing is you don't hear it on the news that much, countries like thailand and indonesia are living proof of this. You do it everywhere you go, even in your own ''country'', if you don't believe me ask the people of Hawai'i. Gringo hatred is on the rise on all of latin america, not only in Colombia and that speaks more of your people than it speaks of our governments.

      The same thing is happening in Europe right now, especially with vacation rentals. They blame tourists and expats instead of blaming the government policies that allowed for this sort of thing in the first place. Like you said, I guess it's easier to drive out the gringo, then to get your government to change their policies. But that's just the economic aspect of it. Assimilation is a whole other issue.

    This stuff is happening in a lot of places, but it's not something that deserves death! That's just insane! I've been to Latin America a few times over various periods, and the resentment towards gringos, especially Americans, seems to have gotten worse after we had Trump. If you aren't Hispanic, they won't treat you the same way.
    The thing about this video that doesn't sit well with me though, is that White Western countries literally have the same issue with Latin American and Middle Eastern people migrating and feeling entitled and not respecting the local culture. But if you dare to talk about THAT, you get branded a racist and get demonitized for hate speech. That also makes Colombians hypocrites. This is a double standard that doesn't sit well with me.

    • @DantheExpat-co8hf
      @DantheExpat-co8hf 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Tinder is used by the gangs like flypaper to catch Gringos. Even guys who travel with a buddy have been drugged and robbed, or extorted, just because they don't pay attention to the risks, and don't know the local dating culture. If two girls from a club want to go back to your place and party, you didn't get lucky. You are gonna get robbed. I used to meet ladies on Latin American Cupid and never had a problem, but I think things have changed a lot over the past few years. I found my forever girl, so I'm not dating any more. I think dating would be a lot safer in smaller cities that don't have a lot of tourist traffic, because the criminals are not organized for it. However, if you don't speak a little Spanish it may make things more difficult.

However, as a matter of fact, very few girls, if any, were virgins when met foreigners. Being that the case, I wonder who the predators are, locals or foreigners?
    Increasing rent prices and general inflation is not a foreigners’ issue; it is a government issue. In many countries, including USA, there are legislation controlling real property rentals, including rent ceilings. There are also price controls regarding basic items. apparently, medellín government is not willing to conduct its fiduciary duty, and instead, blame immigrants for abusing virgin girls, promoting prostitution, increase in criminal activity, inflation and homelessness.

Aside the fact that Mexican migration to the US has been in decline for many years, this polarization of how the condition of a Mexican immigrant versus the condition of an American in Mexico, is what gets people upset. Americans that otherwise would struggle in their home country come here earning US salaries, get a break from their expensive lives, and are able to pretend they can afford the lives they can no longer afford in NY or LA, have a real impact making everything more expensive for locals, do not pay taxes, and don’t even have the decency to acknowledge they are in a different country that’s isn’t theirs…. that’s the problem. This relation is not a win win. It’s a one sided win for Americans. On one hand, the Mexicans contribute to make things cheaper and competitive in the US, but on the other, Americans come here get to enjoy a cheaper lifestyle at the expense of those Mexicans in Mexico, which ends up displacing all those who cannot compete with their purchasing power.
