    Dogs lie - I could have told you that. We once had a dog that was a big time con artist. If he wanted a spot on the sofa that someone was sitting in he would fake having to go outside to potty. As soon as you got off the sofa to let him out he would dash over to the sofa instead. Likewise if the other dog had something he wanted he again would fake the I gotta go stunt knowing the other dog would drop whatever he had to hopefully follow him out the door - only to have his treat taken by the con artist instead. He also knew how to pour on the charm to get out of trouble. Whenever you caught him doing something he shouldn't all you had to do was scold him and he would act totally crushed and pour on the charm until you just couldn't remain mad at him.

    • @hhiippiittyy
      @hhiippiittyy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      My current dog likes to eat things he shouldn't when we are outside. He is never about to eat that thing you saw him going for, though. He was just sniffing the thing next to it. What's the big deal? Just sniffing flowers here.
      And when full on busted, he is REALLY sorry. Chew chew. Couldn't help it. Really, really sorry. Will never do it again. Chew chew chew. Never.

      i had a cat that did the "i want out" fake out on the dogs. he'd signal/yowl to go outside and the dogs would want to follow him out, then he'd turn right back around to go back inside after all the dogs are outside.

      I watched this video 8 months ago, and only just yesterday, realized that my cats, so probably others, also, do this, too, when they sharpen their claws.
      I have two cats that sharpen their claws on the tree by the front door. One gets a bit higher than the other. Sometimes, neighbor cats come over and inspect the sharpening area. I gather, they can probably tell a lot about it, especially that one cat is taller, and therefore bigger, than the other.
      It's weird I get a notification, on this, this morning. Too often it feels like TH-cam is not only paying attention to my phone activity, it can also READ MY MIND!🤔

      They also make fake food caches (and rob them too) the more accomplished the thief the better they can fake caches by keeping an eye on who or what is looking. I have noticed caching birds and squirrels are constantly wary of each other as they will all raid each other's stashes.
      Around here we have taken to referring to our blue jay visitors as bossy birds as they love to come in and show other birds their place they have lots of different antics.

    • @al145
      @al145 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I always suspected this, and then one day saw one actually doing it, which is hilarious in a way because they're bigger than most of the birds I normally get, they could just intimidate them away, but instead are lazy and just yell real loud.

    • @Christopher-N
      @Christopher-N 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In the Pacific Northwest, we have a species of jay that is erroneously called a blue jay... because they're also blue. These jays have a similar behavior, pretending to bury a tree nut, but will instead make a fake cache, especially if they think they're being watched by something that will raid the cache.

It was hilarious! But none of their owners had the vaguest idea how they learned to do it or why.

      Sounds like an episode of _Laurel and Hardy._ They join the French Foreign Legion to forget about women, and at some point, a discussion is raised about what they'd like to be reincarnated as if they die. Stan Laurel sensibly decides he'd like to come back as himself (the human that he is). Oliver Hardy suggests that's not allowed, and that he'd like to come back as a beautiful horse. Shenanigans happen, they die, Laurel is later walking along a country road when he comes across a horse whom declares, "Well, here's another fine mess you've gotten me into."

    • @marisu9765
      @marisu9765 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. The only times I lie are when I know for a fact I have no choice and I'll suffer repercussions to my health or well-being as a result of being honest unjustly when I have done nothing wrong.
      For example, I suffer from many chronic illnesses and I'm disabled, including sitting disabled. I cannot sit up and in order to rest I must lie down on a bench or most often just the floor because there's usually no accessible furniture anywhere I go. I get harassed nonstop literally just for lying down in a public place when it has no effect on anybody else around me. People feel entitled to try to talk to me and ask if I'm "having fun" or why I'm lying down. I have anxiety and no desire to have small talk with any of these strangers bothering me. I make it clear I want to be left alone when I'm just trying to rest, but they still bother me. When strangers ask why I'm lying down I just lie to them that yeah, I'm having fun, and I say nothing else.
      If I were to say it's because I'm disabled, people feel entitled to ask me 20 questions about my disabilities when it's none of their business and it's always the same questions over and over, and they always have a look on their face of pity and dismay like I just ruined their day. It's just constant undue harassment. And that's not even getting to the 99% of all other passing strangers who just choose to insult me for resting, complain to management, gawk and glare at me and use non-verbal gestures to insult me and show how disgusted they are that I'm lying down in a public place.
      Yeah, strangers are not entitled to know about my medical history. I have no obligation to share that with them. Being honest would physically harm me because dealing with people bothering me is exhausting and I just want to be left alone. There's nothing wrong with lying so people leave me alone. It's comparable to how people lie about other aspects of their identity to avoid harassment socially. That's a very acceptable thing to lie about.
      Nonetheless, I would never lie if it weren't for circumstances comparable to that - to avoid unfair treatment for who I am when I've done nothing wrong. There's just no real benefit to it in nearly any situation where most people choose to lie freely. Building trust with friends, family and community is a valuable tool that's not worth petty trickery. And persuasion doesn't even require dishonesty in most situations.

      so i choose to suffer from other peoples ignorance rather than their curiosity, because suffering from other people’s ignorance requires less effort on my part and is otherwise exactly as exhausting
