Hello, I went freediving yesterday, and in one dive I went down, still in my descent( so still had plenty air) felt an extreme pain on the top of my head, so I ascended straight way. The pain still last for a minute or so, and during my time in de water after, even putting my head below 1metre of water, would bring the pain to come back. Now on the next day I feel fine, but have some slight pain in the back of my eyes. Note: (the Google's were not comfortable)
Do you guys have any idea what it could be? Thanks

I was surprised to find that a stop in skip breathing could stop my routine diving headaches, but when I tried smoother breathing and relaxing my body , it worked! Thanks

I received a bad concussion 9 yrs ago causing post concussion syndrome with whiplash, I’d like to learn scuba, but am very protective of my head/brain, and neck and back from whiplash. Scared to even try. Thanks!

Most of the time it’s being dehydrated and tired, skip breathing, and biting your mouth piece too hard (usually with new divers).

I recently had a headache after a dive. Very likely caused by skip breathing while doing a pretty strenuous dive. Not a fun feeling but it passed in about an hour and was a good lesson to stop skip breathing.

As others have already said, dehydration has to be a frequent cause. Unless you live near Phoenix, humans are used to breathing humid air. I look at a weather map of the UK today and it's around 85%. Breathing gas with practically zero humidity will extract a large amount of water vapour from your body. An hour in the water may mean you need to drink an extra litre. Combine that with the wish, especially in a dry suit, not to have to pee while bagged up and you have a diver who is reducing water input at a time when they actually need more. A headache at the end of the day is then almost inevitable.

In my early days of diving I'd get a headache right after the dive. Figured it must be common cold since the weather was too cold for a tropical country, and also by the fact that I blow my nose right when I resurface (and sometimes the snot has blood 😬). I also have regular vertigo long before I started diving.

And how are you now? I would like to know how you deal with it, since I just feel that today.

hi sir, ive had the same experience. but mine was worse, it was just some shallow diving(no equips). after the dive, ive had a really bad headache that lasted more than a month! the headache only stopped when dark blood came out of my nose, then i blow my nose and seeing more dark blood came out.
