Hey, your tutorials on the 4 stroke types for beginners are easily the best out there! This basic technical building block is more complex than a lot of people realize, and you designed excellent simple exercises and workouts to master all the different aspects of the basic stroke motions. You even specify exactly where the prep motions should happen, which is neglected very often! Great stuff! Only suggestions I'd have would be to maybe include the 'whipping motion' for the upstroke and following accent, and to maybe embed this into a drum solo that contain all these, then taking apart some essential parts and show the building blocks, then how they can be mastered. Then follow it up by applying them to hand to hand accent patterns (I like to use groupings of 8ths like 3+3+2 and its permutations, 3+3+3+3+4 or 3+3+3+3+2+2 with its permutations, with the first of each group accented; also the other clave patterns (3+3+4+2+4 etc.). Then do sticking patterns. I find that for students it's very important to start from a complete piece of music that sound great to the components, rather than just starting with building blocks in an isolated fashion, without the students 'getting' what they need these motions and excercises for, and for integrating this into the whole picture. It's a great motivator that helps students know what to practice these neccessarily somewhat boring exercises for. Such abstract, reduced exercises can take students who are keen on playing real music and are really talented a lot of concentration and focus in my experience. Anyway, thanks a millon for these outstanding videos!
