I was wondering how to use that mic jack in the back! I was befuddled why they put that in the back in such a dumb place. Mine didn't come with a leg like that.. I can certainly make one... Thanks for the tip!
Hi Scott, do you know the name or where to buy the accessory attached to the recorder that allows it to be stand up on a table or that serves as a base if you know what I mean (that stick) Thanks a lot.

hey, awesome video. I have a question, will this also work with a larger board? Do you know if I would be able to record a whole band like this? and will it sound good?
Dude, unless you want to record with both the built in mics (or the little imput your useing) AND the bottom 2 inputs you don't need to change your settings like that. Just hit the Mic1 or Mic2 button and it will automatically switch to those inputs. Using 4 channel, you're doing just that. You will record from both the bottom inputs and both the built in mics(or a stereo signal from the 3.5mm input) Learning about your zoom a little better will make your life easier mate!
Also, your way will create an extra unnessesary recording on the SD card. Unless you are wanting to get audio from both the built in mics and the bottom imputs of course.
Is this able to be used outside? Like if there is a small speaking event and I put it on a tripod near the speaker, will it capture their audio clearly or will they have to speak directly into it?
very cool! could the zoom h6 be connected to a mixer if the mixer was also connected to 2 PA speakers, and record 5 to 10 inputs (mics, keyboard, voices, guitar, violin) playing live in church?
Thanks a lot... You are the best. Please I do have a question. When I record, the output to my camera always have a background noise. But when I play the zoom h4n audio directly I don't hear the background noise. How do I remove the background noise from the output...? Thanks
If you are using the H4n's headphone jack to send the signal to your camera, that signal is Very Low. A "headphone level" signal is much lower than a "mic level" signal, which is lower than a "line level" signal. The H4n should really have a separate, dedicated "line-level" output jack. Your camera's audio input jack is designed to accept either a mic or line level source. In your case, it's better to just use the audio that's being recorded to your SD card (in the H4n). The audio going to your camera should only be used for "reference"...
My zoom won’t pick up any sound when an external mic is in the small hole near the internal mics. The two on the other side do... but nothing happens with the sound when a mic is plugged in on top Please help!
Great video but I'm confused if you're connected to the board's headphone jack, how do the people who set the board up monitor their sound, is there more than one headphone jack?
If I'm hooked up to a mixer and running karaoke inputs and Mic inputs can I record using this device and then put it on my computer and make cd's for people?
I don't use my Zoom H4n PRO much because of my type of video (TOY R/C Model Planes) where I need someone to figure a way for my Canon XA-30 or T5i to take my H4n PRO from pause to record and back to pause as I press the Record/Pause button on the camera. I have the Wired Remote for the H4n PRO but need the H4n PRO better synced with the Record/Pause of my camera as there many shots are very short 3 to 10 seconds and as many shots as 25 to 30 or more in a single flight. and can be of different aircraft. So you can see the synchronization of audio can be very time consuming if not at all impossible. Any help out there PLZ.
I got a line output from mixture and put in the mic jack in the back of H4 with the stereo plug, when I start the recording process, only left channel is recording? why both Right and Left are not recording like your video.? Any Idea, thanks
Do you recommend connecting the zoom xlr to a speaker xlr? I’m doing a wedding this weekend and the DJ recommends that this is the easiest set up....I’m just not sure.
can any help me pls? i used it as quarter input and with auto level. it's not sound after i import to final cut. i only heard little bit sound. thats why what level is good to input with quarter?
thank you, but what's next? i switched to 4ch mode and put 2 mics into these 2 inputs on the bottom. and then i plug in my headphones into the zoom to check it, and then i hear that one of my mics (which is plugged into the 1st input) is in the left ear only and the second mic is in the right ear only. how can i have both mics in both ears simultaneously?
thank you but I already found an answer. and actually the answer is 'NO'. either I did not ask correctly or you did not understand my question. but now everything's fine. thank you for your time again.
thank u so much! i couldn't find MODE so i had to turn off Stamina at the back where the batteries are...then completely turn off the zoom and start it up again so that Stamina is off... then i was able to access to MODE to switch to 4 Channel :D im putting a quick 10 second tutorial who to do it on my MindWaveStudios Yt channel.
There is terrible hiss on this recording... Perhaps you need to reduce the built in pre amp in camera to +1 and use a Fiio E3 and it'll take care of this hiss.
Thanks indeed. This recorder is amazing!
I did not know about the back input, awesome!

Perfect option for anyone on a budget.
very useful, thanks!

I tried it with a 16 channel. It did worked.

What is the name of the cord in the back?
So the eight inch input on the back is line level as well as mic level?
Hi I need to record synthetizer or mixer
Which channel I have to use? The tiny one on the back or the bigger two in the front?
What's a sound board?
Also, your way will create an extra unnessesary recording on the SD card. Unless you are wanting to get audio from both the built in mics and the bottom imputs of course.
How you have connected this with mixer ?

Abc 123 I don't see why you couldn't at least try that setup.
Thanks a lot... You are the best.
Please I do have a question.

ive seen in another video this same concept except the person used the xlr/quarter inch inputs under the zoom. What is the difference if any?
I think that through the headphones output you got a more suitable level (-10db i think), less distorted..
Very helpful. Thanks!
My zoom won’t pick up any sound when an external mic is in the small hole near the internal mics. The two on the other side do... but nothing happens with the sound when a mic is plugged in on top
Please help!
It’s been a while since I published this video, check the menu system for input selection and level/volume adjustment.
@@TechScottBrown I’ll try that thank you Scott!
great video - thanks for the lesson!
Thank you!
Great video but I'm confused if you're connected to the board's headphone jack, how do the people who set the board up monitor their sound, is there more than one headphone jack?
Thomas McCoy, I presume that you could use the monitor jack out of the H4N
The front of house speakers? 😂
If I'm hooked up to a mixer and running karaoke inputs and Mic inputs can I record using this device and then put it on my computer and make cd's for people?
Laurence Ramos yes

Does the H4n Pro work with an SD card larger than 32 GB?
dinoatcharterdotnet not sure but from my experience, the larger the card the longer the boot time for some reason

J Jana if line out is stereo then I suspect that you don’t have a stereo cable
I'm no expert, but perhaps this video about the mono mix setting can help you: th-cam.com/video/pA8pMhbQ9C8/w-d-xo.html
You can get a y xlr cable and then it will record to both outputs
How would I set up a safety track on this recorder.
thanks
Tim
I'm assuming you mean a back up? I suppose you can split off into one of the 4 channels.
Do you recommend connecting the zoom xlr to a speaker xlr? I’m doing a wedding this weekend and the DJ recommends that this is the easiest set up....I’m just not sure.
Hi Samuel, I'm no expert. I've found that it's best to test and prove that it will work!
I believe that this will work. It's best to test to prove.
XLR In is not line level. You will get distortion if you do don’t use an attenuater
whats the name of the cable you are using?
+oscar moreno Hi, 1/4 TRS balanced patch cable with a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter.
+Scott Brown thanks Scott!
can any help me pls? i used it as quarter input and with auto level. it's not sound after i import to final cut. i only heard little bit sound. thats why what level is good to input with quarter?
I am recording a live band. Where do i connect my Zoom to the mixer? Thanks.
Michael Openshaw one of the aux inputs on the mixer should suffice, its best to practice the set up well before production.
Thank you and hopefully, I will be able too.
@@TechScottBrown why did you say to put it in the headphone jack in the video and you told this guy put it in the aux?
Does the 1/8 plug cancel out the stereo mic on the Zoom?
Mark Wellendorf, yes that's how it works.
Can this work through a aviom when I plug it in through the headphone jack?
I don't see why not.
do you think it will get clear audio?
In most cases yes, the headphone jack is clean
Scott Brown thank you sir
Hello! Do you know, can I record 2 different stereo channels from 2 ext mics (bottom 1 & 2 jacks) simultaneously? Thank you!
Yes, you'll need to put the unit into 4-channel mode in order to accomplish this task.
thank you, but what's next?
i switched to 4ch mode and put 2 mics into these 2 inputs on the bottom. and then i plug in my headphones into the zoom to check it, and then i hear that one of my mics (which is plugged into the 1st input) is in the left ear only and the second mic is in the right ear only.

Or take it out in post - the filters are very good now

不错,非常好
three minutes in and I'm lost.
Good info. But reflections prevent the audience from seeing the screen.
that doesn't help me
There is terrible hiss on this recording... Perhaps you need to reduce the built in pre amp in camera to +1 and use a Fiio E3 and it'll take care of this hiss.
