Marrying an unbeliever would probably be a challenge because I think we won't be in the same page, but only God can speaks to the hearts of each individual.
I'm the only Athiest in my family,I married the woman I love because of who she is, not who she worships and have been married for 20+ years
Those who are willing to listen and learn might end up changing for the better... in my experiences, at least, I would definitely say that God's love is cutting through to his heart in small steps. Change, even on a spiritual front, isn't easy. I know what the challenges are when it comes to dating a non-believer, but if the person you're with is narrow-minded or isn't willing to step out of his or her own perceived self, then obviously it's not going to work.
@@amyhoover9I experienced a situation where I fell in love with a non believer. We spent a great deal of time confiding in each other as we grew emotionally involved. I entertained the thought of marrying this person as I believed at the time we had quite a bit in common. It appeared we had what it took to grow together however in all honesty I ignored certain warning signs in the beginning. For example, relatively early on in the relationship she told me that she didn't want children. As for myself, I had begun to compromise telling her that I wasn't necessarily gun ho about having kids myself, thinking at the time that would be a compromise in support of the relationship. However, she took it a step further stating that she would terminate the pregnancy if she were ever to conceive. This really bothered me as from a believer's standpoint, I cannot wrap my mind around the concept of killing my seed established in the circumstance of "Holy Matrimony" to a woman who I said I loved, and who said they loved me. I began to entertain the idea that just maybe she would change her mind but she remained adamant that she would "never carry a child" which at this point really shed the light on how unequally yoked we were. No matter how much I tried to explore the concept of her receiving my support through her hypothetical pregnancy, she remained consistent that she would never do it. Not to mention she then asked me my thoughts on her getting her tubes tied, and if I would consider a vasectomy. The more she spoke, the more spiritually disconnected I realized we were. In fact, during my discussions regarding the Bible, she stated it was nothing more than a book of stories with no real significance or application to life. One of the most heartbreaking things she ever said to me was, she would never have a child because if she did, she'd resent it and that the child would know they were unwanted and not loved. The initial stages of a relationship can be very deceiving as lust is often mistaken for love. I can only imagine if I had married that person.
This might sound hard, but you don’t need a man/ woman , you need God, and God will give you everything that you need and everything that is good for you.

However, you should ask God for everything,, EVERYTHING. nothing on this earth can't be solved or healed by God. The One Who split the sea is able to change your life in an instant. Just ask God for help.
It depends on Gods will for your life, some people are actually destined to marry an unbeliever for a purpose. You will have to find out for your self. forget what other people are saying, that’s why the Bible says work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Many people in the Bible like Esther married an unbeliever but it was Gods will and the purpose came to pass.

@@angel_12334 Aweee I’m glad to hear that!! ☺️ I met an Indian guy at work who I never noticed before but he made himself known to me and acts in thee most gentleman like manner as well towards me, and the connection between us is so strong even though we hardly know each other. But I’m trying so hard not to develop strong feelings for him because I know there might be a strong chance he’s Hindu lol, and if that’s the case our values just won’t align. Clearly bible says if ur single try marrying with someone who will pray with you and another thing bible says if a believer is in truly in love with non believer n married it will be challenging for each day for believer.n jesus came to share his love not for skin colour or race.i advice couple for those whose partner is non believer pray for him or her to save their soul one day God will touch their heart.this is a challenging part but u can do coz m also in a same situation lord helps me alot.believe n it shall be done unto you

What if God is using the relationship to lead the nonbeliever to Christ? His ways above our ways, His thoughts above our thoughts. I've an atheist friend that I've been talking to for awhile now. We've discussed dating and marriage. She's really cool and aside from politics and religion, we clique up really well. I've been praying on it too. She's beautiful and absolutely amazing. @@runningwithscissors1564 You should really pray about it. There are some Christians out there who don't consider it a sin to marry an unbeliever. And they don't consider 2 Corinthians 6 to be talking about marriage when it talks about being unequally yoked.

God didn't say maybe be unequally yoked he said do not be unequally yoked. A non believer does not have the same values if one wants to live for themselves and the other thinks a relationship is about service to others and being selfless you will end up being in a toxic and unhealthy different pages relationship that is draining both people and you can't make God as a priority.

St. Paul is referring here to those who where married 'before' believing in Christ, as Mark has already explained. They may stay together with the unbelieving spouse.
But if a single believer comes to Christ they must only marry another believer.

It's only if you were already married to an unbeliever BEFORE coming to Christ, then you can remain with your spouse.
Otherwise if others being a bachelor or spinster when accepting Christ, then the above command given by Almighty God applies.
If such people fail to obey and defiantly become unequally yoked in marriage, then Almighty God will by the very implication of the passage, not accept such rebellious people as His son's and daughters.

Am a Christian from south India And to be more frank, I don't understand y everyone sees religion as an obstacle to marry. Religion should help us grow into a more humane personality rather than restricting us to share life with another person. Anoohya Rao my girlfriend is not there yet either, but I need to continue to pray for her. We (mainly me) pray every night and sometimes it gets to me that she doesn’t join in with words. We’ve only been together for 2 months and I know I need to practice patience too. I’m confused too which is why I had a friend explain this scripture to me. My friend tells me that the other scriptures about being unequally yoked isn’t sayin directly not to marry a non believer. Also, he told me these scriptures are saying that it is ok. Never. IT only brings heartache. Most of the time you will loose your love for God and they pull you away from the Christain walk. I dated a non believer after being saved and he told me that he was so sick of me talking about Jesus.Jesus this and Jesus that.
If a women has a husband who is a non believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him, or leave him. Love is sacrifice and respect. He did not respect you, so it did not work out. True love would have been if he respected your way of life, and even more if he wanted to look into Jesus out of love for you.

The problem is that your translation of 1 Cor 7:39 is wrong. I have no idea what translation you are using, as none of the four translations I looked up agrees with yours (KJV, NKJV, NRSV, NABRE). The pertinent part of the verse, in Greek, is ἐλευθέρα ἐστὶν ᾧ θέλει γαμηθῆναι, μόνον ἐν κυρίῳ, “she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.” (Cultural note: men were said to marry or lead a woman, active voice, whereas women were said to be married to or be led by a man, passive voice. It was a thing.) The “only in the Lord” (μόνον ἐν κυρίῳ) is an adverbial phrase modifying the verb, “to be married” (γαμηθῆναι). It cannot qualify the “to whom” (ᾧ). So the question is what “to be married in the Lord” might mean. That the husband be a believer is one possible and reasonable interpretation, but by no means the only or even most likely one. And do realize it is a nontrivial interpretation. It may alternatively and perhaps more likely mean to be married according to Christian rather than pagan customs and rituals. Pagan marriage customs at least frequently involved doses of pagan religious beliefs and practices, especially as seen from a Christian perspective. Which is it? As none of the other biblical passages I have heard you reference actually involve marriage in the NT, I believe you are pinning an awful lot of unchristian and unloving exclusion on a very flimsy and debatable biblical basis.

I was coming to faith and breaking down my wall to come into light but then the disciples mentoring me said I had to separate from finance Bc she was not a believer. Biblically, I have not been born again. If we were to get married then I was a born again Christian would that be okay?
A firm believer in Christ and the fact that God places people in our lives for a reason. I’m a Christian girl and I came across a Muslim boy in which we both have mutual feelings for each other. I pray He keeps us going. I pray that He strengthens our bond, our FAITH and most importantly, the growing love there is to be shared by us two. If this is God’s way of using me to direct people towards the truth, I hope and pray it is him. Dear God, hear my heart when my mind cannot fathom and speak. I wish there were more open-minded religious people like you. I truly understand why someone wants to be on the same page. However, I don’t think it should totally rule over your relationship. This doesn’t probably make sense to the majority but that’s just what I think, you meet your significant other for a reason.

It's not our responsibility for another individual to have a relationship with Jesus. You can tell them about God yes but at the end of it , they will make that decision on their own. Everyone has to have an encounter with the lord to want to follow him. . The Bible says a man should love his wife as christ loves the church. When you love God before a man God will honor that .

The man I love is a Hindu. I want to lead him to Christ but since I am not the one who an change his heart but God alone, I have decided to stop talking to him for a while. When I used to talk to him about Jesus and the Bible, sometimes he listened but other times he got annoyed. But there were also inatances were he went to the Church by his own will and he even prayed to Jesus. I can't tell if Jesus is calling hin towards Him. He also told me that he will believe in Jesus but can't convert because as the only son of his family, there are certain things only a son can do when the family member passes away and to do that he must be a Hindu. It seems like there is no way around this. Now that I promised God that I won't be talking to him for a while, I am praying every day for his soul to be saved and for him to accept Jesus as his Lord and saviour. But my heart is hurting and it is so weak. I am tempted every moment to just talk to him. I need strength, please pray for me. I know that the Lord doesn't want anyone's soul to be lost. I am hoping that Jesus will one change his heart of stone to a heart of flesh so it can accept Christ. My heart is hurting every moment. I want to love Jesus more than anything including him and I wish he could also do the same. It is unbearably painful to watch someone you love who hasn't been saved yet.
Abraham obeyed God when He said to sacrifice Isaac, his only son. Can you "sacrifice" the person you feel love for--- for God? Jesus calls for RADICAL OBEDIENCE & this is the COST of following God: Luke 14:26-27 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters- yes, even his own life- he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not carry his cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple.… Decide if your love for a man is more than your love for God. Whatever your decision there are surely consequences.

My family dont know about my marriage. But my family knows we love each other. They want us to break up. They dont want a non believer. Many pastors told me a prophecy that he was not good for me and should leave him no matter what. Even I feel so that God wants to separate us. I am totally confused and helpless. I married him. I couldn't leave. I don't want to leave him. I love him so much. He has no problem wid me being a Christian. And I don't want to go against god's will. What shall I do.? Pls help me. Please.
Assuming that you're still married, what I will say is this; you're tied under the eyes of God, making your marriage divinely legitimate thus unless he chooses to leave (which I hope he doesn't), what you should do is reflect Jesus as much as you can. Who knows, maybe your husband will get to know Him someday. :)

I noticed woman who are Christian don't give me a chance, yet a unbeliever looks for me, and I tell them about God, maybe if they find the love and grace of God, and become believers, then you can build a relationship after?

I have realised one special thing(Passion's, tolerance waiting in God )especially when your about to marry because for a true christian who is real and serious devoted to Christ avoid marrying unbelievers even if they look beauty as far as there is no Christ in them stay away
What does the bible mean in 1 Cor. 7:36 "If anyone thinks he is acting improperly toward the virgin he is engaged to, and if she is getting along in years and he feels he ought to marry, he should do as he wants. He is not sinning. They should get married."

This one was directly for me. Lol....I pretty much know exactly what the Bible says when it comes to this, but I’ve been so tempted recently, I’m usually good at making God my first priority in relationships but this recent one was hard. I’ve known the person for awhile and the individual is a preacher’s son, that knows the Bible inside and out but had walked away from the faith due to his experience at church as a child. What challenged me the most about this was the fact that I couldn’t really tell the state of the person’s salvation and when we discussed about being equally yoked he said to me “It’s not like I can unlearn what I’ve learned all those years.” ...I was so busy trying to find scripture/wise counsel to justify pursuing a relationship with him. But, then I asked myself why would God want me to be with a man that will not draw me near to Him?! I know better. Grateful for God’s patient with me. After all these years I still have moments in my life where I try to rush ahead of God and do my own thing. But, He’s still so patient with me. Thank you for this Mark!

So I am asking myself since christians don't marry non Christians do Christians think that they are the only people that are going to heaven. This sounds very self righteous, I believe in God but I am not a Christian I am not interesting in religion. I know an individual doesn't have to be a Christian to try and live their lives the most righteous way possible . I don't mean any offense or to go against you, but I think it is allowed and the Bible does not contradict itself.
At the time in Israel, fathers would give their virgin daughters in marriage, at a cost (or service). Usually in different clans. This is why they wouldn't know if the other was of the Lord. This is why it makes sense for 1 Corinthians 7:12-16.
We have the convenience of seeking our own wife / husband in this day, but back then there wasn't a choice. It states only for the widow in 1 Corinthians 7:39 to marry a man of the Lord, not even to the husbands that their wife has died (as it usually makes a point to mention both in the previous chapters). There is most likely a reason for widows to find men of the Lord to marry.
It states to not be unequally yoked (2 Corinthians 6:14-18), which does not mean marriage. Yoke is for bondage (or slavery), and usually in the bible mentioning oxen yoked to a donkey (for example).. Yoke is a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals.
1 Timothy 6:1 "Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed" .. There it states yoke as a slave/master relationship.
As far as I'm aware, yoke is not mentioned alongside marriage.
If I were to weigh in my own opinion (I, not the Lord), I'd say it is allowed, but you would most likely face troubles. For example, are you seeking that woman/man because of lust? If you marry an unbeliever, what stops that person from divorcing you? A true believer would know one should not put away his wife, even in hard times (unless the other has committed adultery).
Also, another reason to not date / marry an unbeliever would be, if you go to Church, what about the spouse? Both are spiritually bonded, does it not create division of interests? Would it not be easier and less division to go together, and have the same mindset?
I agree with Mark that you should seek a Christian believer to marry, though I don't think it is against the Bible to do so.
I agree with some of what you said. Paul uses the term yokefellow in Philippians. That term can refer to a wife. However, it is in the masculine term. So, it isn't talking about Paul's spouse probably. Yoke doesn't need to mean marriage.
Also about widows, marry in the Lord doesn't necessarily mean marry someone in the Lord. In the Lord modified both nouns and verbs.

Scripture is up to personal interpretation & is led by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will convict you if you are right in marrying an unbeliever. Just look at the example Paul gives: For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial?...These examples are telling you that the contrasts are EXTREMES from each other. In other words, for example, you as a believer should not marry a murderer or rapist. Think of it this analogy: A believer marrying an unbeliever like the example Paul gives is like pouring gasoline into a styrofoam container. But because Paul's examples are way far extremes from each other, it is OK for a believer to marry a non-believer. This is like ice cream with Earl Grey and Lavender or eating ice cream with rose petals. It is rare, but it is not so extreme that it destroys the union between two ingredients. People tend to remember "Most of the time you will loose your love for God", but failed to remember that the key word here is MOST. This does not mean ALL. The rest of us it works out fine. I've been saved by the blood of Jesus since I was 20 years old. I married my teenage sweetheart. She was a non-believer. But thru my actions of living like Christ, she came to the Lord and got saved. She died in a car accident (after she was saved) when our son was 9 years old. So nobody can say it is right or wrong for a believer to marry an unbeliever. You don't know if this was God's plan all along to save someone's soul. If you a believer, the Holy Spirit will let you know if this was wrong or not. Work out your own salvation, but to truly be saved, you can only go to Jesus Christ and believe in what he did for you on that cross to be saved. He is the Way, the Truth, & the Life. NO ONE comes to God except thru Him.
I am having this issue now. My husband and I married in 2016, and we both believed in God. I have recently been getting deeper into Christ and will get baptized, but my husband has converted to Islam about a year ago. It’s very saddening
He does not get angry or tell me not to be in my faith, so I’m working on not being judgmental. I do hope he comes back to the Lord.

@@kika0803 yes! Took me sometime to accept. Specially since I kept growing in my faith with god I felt like I was doing this but forgot to realize it’s we me and my partner . There was a point where I was ready to take another step in my faith and everything kept leading back to my fiancé because he is a part of this journey and god has bigger things in mind for both of us . It’s beautiful that when god tells us you and your family will be saved he means it , I’m just trying to understand the process and not beat myself up , I keep thinking that I am not worthy of god in the state that I am not married yet , which I know that won’t stay this way since we are so close to getting married and we both know we are taking this to heart and we are not leaving our relationship when things get tough. Paul was addressing those people who were ALREADY married, and one of the spouses got saved.Remember, in the early church time, there were many Jewish and Gentile marriages where neither spouse was saved, and then 1 spouse got saved. These words are what to do for those who have a husband or a wife that gets saved AFTER they were married as non-believers.

I would say really, really pray about it. Saint Augustine of Hippo, who lived in the 300's, said that he didn't recall a place in the gospels or writings of the apostles where it said without ambiguity that the Lord has prohibited believers from marrying unbelievers. Also, Martin Luther said "Know therefore that marriage is an outward, bodily thing, like any other worldly undertaking. Just as I may eat, drink, sleep, walk, ride with, buy from, speak to, and deal with a heathen, Jew, Turk, or heretic, so I may also marry and continue in wedlock with him. Pay no attention to the precepts of those fools who forbid it. You will find plenty of Christians, and indeed the greater part of them, who are worse in their secret unbelief than any Jew, heathen, Turk, or heretic. A heathen is just as much a man or a woman-God's good creation-as St. Peter, St. Paul, and St. Lucy, not to speak of a slack and spurious Christian. Some say that 1 Corinthians 7:14 is better stated the unbelieving husband/wife is "sanctified to" the believing husband/wife instead of being sanctified BY. Sanctified to meaning being ceremonially clean. So, marrying an unbeliever is not as clear cut an issue as it looks.

You translated 1.Cor.7:39 wrong. It doesn't say "he must belong to the lord", it says "μονον εν τω κυριω" which means "only in the Lord".

Same here.. i'm in a relationship with a non believer, he is hindu. I've told him that i couldnt be with him before we started dating. And i also dont want to force him to convert because it will hurt his family but he said his family will be okay as long as he can be married. But after we dating, we havent talked about this again. I love him so much and I can't imagine being with someone else at the moment. I had to cut it off although I am broken hearted I am praying every day to God for his soul to be saved. He told me he is ok with believing in Jesus but he can't convert because of his responsibilities to his family as the only son. He does go to church at times. And since Jesus has said one can only come to him by the Father's will, I am praying that the Lord will be merciful to him. I am waiting on the Lord now. I have promised Jesus to not talk to him till my college year is done. Till then I will pray for him everyday. Moreover, I am gonna trust His plans even though it is so hard to do so now.

I've been having a hard time dissecting my own relationship. My girlfriend isn't a believer, she doesn't believe that christ is the son of god, and she doesn't consider herself a christian. I've been with her for about 2 years now. We were highschool sweethearts, and before I truly cherished my relationship with god, I didn't realize the consequences of loving someone who isn't a believer. I've only recently started reading the word, going to church, and praying daily. We've had sex outside of marriage as well as argued for religion, but besides that we're very happy and I can't let her go. Knowing this, it feels like i'm falling prey to idolization in a way...I don't consider her a god or anything, but she is someone I couldn't possibly let go. She's a kind hearted person, loves others, devoted to charity, volunteering, helping others, and forges her own future to benefit others. She's started to go to church occasionally but its a muslim church and I just don't know what to do. I feel dishonest praying to the lord about it or trying to think in the back of my head that the lord will bring us together somehow. I don't know if shes holding me down or i'm supposed to lift her up. Does anyone have any good advice on how I should pray and what I could do?
