    Looking forward to the new ASIAir features in 2.0. Thanks for the video. I wasn’t aware that ZWO was working on a major update. I’m really impressed at how much you can do with ASIAir now compared to when it first came out.

      I agree, I only have the original version and never used it much. It sat in a drawer for years actually.
      However since they released the all sky polar alignment I use it every session just for this feature. I can’t see the South Celestial Pole from my balcony but the new feature has made it so muc easier to get a good alignment anyway.
      I then switch to traditional software for imaging and control for the session but at least feel like I got my money’s with on the ASI air now

    I’m running the latest update and all I can say is, for me, it’s so much better than any of the others. I did have one CTD but overall, the new features and the operations are awesome! I used to struggle with PA mostly because plate solving would often fail and it would sometimes take me twenty minutes to do a simple polar alignment. Last three nights since the update, two minutes and done! Your mileage may vary but for me, this update is a game changer!

    • @SimjetAU
      @SimjetAU 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found when doing PA looking through my LXextreme it hardly plate solves but if I swith the filter wheel to a position with no filter...BAM it instantly finds it. Never hasd issues before until I have that filter in line

    • @clearskiesastro1028
      @clearskiesastro1028  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimjetAU more light coming through makes plate solving easier and faster. If using something like an L-Extreme or Antlia ALP-T dual narrow band filter, you just need to increase the exposure time during PA. It does take longer though, and using a different filter by no means makes your PA any less accurate, so definitely a good idea to use no filter or your least restrictive filter like UV/IR or L-Pro.

    • @roymedina638
      @roymedina638 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah previously, I would struggle with PA no matter what position I had on my filter wheel on. Plate solve would also fail when I tried a GOTO on an image from the night before. That feature never gave me problems before but recently it just sat there and did nothing. Now, everything is so smooth and very quick!

    Very clear explanation. Thanks.
    When I started this weekend (after 2 months of clouds....) the new version was uploaded.
    I however had problems with the autoguiding. It oscillated continuously up to more than 8" up and down. I had even to stop the autoguiding to get something done, trying to take some pictures of M81. Any idea what I did wrong? I appreciate all comments... (it looked like a conflict/overshoot between the mount and the corrections by the Asiair)
    My configuration is CGX-mount with the Asiair Pro, guiding by ASI290 and taking pictures with the ASI071

    For each his/her/their own but I really am glad I got a mini-PC instead of the ASI Air Pro. I was actually waiting for one that was back ordered but got a mini PC for around half the price. Thanks for the update! QUESTION: Telescopius & other software products provide the option of (a) constructing a mosaic with all panels having the same rotation angle, or (b) constructing a mosaic in which each panel is rotated a unique amount in order to end up with a perfectly rectangular mosaic. (..spherical geometry? woo hoo! lol..) It appeared that your example represented the latter of the two options, which would be a pain if shooting multiple panels in one evening & having to do a new manual rotation over & over again. So, I am interested in knowing if the Beta version also provides option (a), which is less efficient but requires less hands-on work.

    • @clearskiesastro1028
      @clearskiesastro1028  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ASIAIR does not rotate each panel to preserve a perfect rectangle, and each panels rotation is identical. The farther away from the celestial poles the target, the more the mosaic will appear rectangular as if they were individually rotated, but they are not. When you create a mosaic near the pole, the panels do not form a rectangle at all, thanks to that wonderful spherical geometry, the same as in Telescopius when you disable the "rotate panes to preserve alignment".

    • @jimcollins1922
      @jimcollins1922 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clearskiesastro1028 On this question, in your example it appeared to me that you could have framed the capture with a 2x5 mosaic if you had rotated your camera for framing. So is there a way to use a selected rotation of the camera for the mosaic or is a default rotation always used? Given a default rotation for the mosaic, how is that default rotation determined? Even if a default rotation is used, in the case of a mosaic how do you rotate the camera to the default rotation?
      Thanks for the video. Is ZWO going to release a published list of new features along with a user manual?

    • @clearskiesastro1028
      @clearskiesastro1028  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimcollins1922 Hi Jim, ZWO already has published the list of new features for Beta v2.0 on the "ZWO Asiair" FB group and if you go onto the TestFlight app (iPhone) and look for the beta version, you can see the full list there too. Not sure about Android, I'm sure its there as well wherever their beta apps are stored. ZWO continues to update the yuque-dot-com online manuals as best as they can but even those are still lacking. I believe they are updated by a single person though so still not cmoplete enough for most. In regards to the rotation for mosaics, I think the best way would be to look at the targer in Sky Atlas, figure out optimal camera rotation for the least amount of panels, and then use the new rotation assist feature to get your camera on that angle, and then just setup the mosaic. Assuming you're successfully plate solving then your exact rotation is known and displayed in SkyAtlas via the blue scope field of view box/rectangle.

    This is a list of my hardware: Explore Scientific ED102 Essential Series Air-Spaced Triplet APO Refractor (ES-ED10207-02) , 2" Hotech field flattener, ASIair Pro, EAF, ASI294MC Pro. I have been using this setup for the last month with absolutely no problems. Last night I went out and setup to run but I could not get the Plate Solving to work. Is there some way to find out which update is running? (I don't remember if I ran the lastest update) There has been NO hardware changes, so I figure it's a software. Any ideas or solution?

    • @clearskiesastro1028
      @clearskiesastro1028  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree it’s likely a software issue or more likely a settings change post update. You can see which version you’re running in the app when connected to all your gear, or the easier way is just to check the app version on your phone through Apple Store or Google play. The app version always matches the device it logs into, so one can’t be different from the other.
      The following things will affect plate solving:
      - bad focus
      - not tracking (star trails)
      - noisy image (short exp and/or high gain)
      - dark image (short exp + narrowband filter)
      - wrong scope focal length
      - too small of a field of vue
      It’s been known to happen where an update will inadvertently change some of your existing settings so go over all of these with a fine tooth comb. I would recommend you also delete the ASIAIR app and re-install it.
