    Newb here - so we take a flat with the panel on the end of the scope - now (as I understand it, I have to remove the camera and cap it to take a dark flat with the same exposure (flat dark? Which?!) - doesn’t that mess up the alignment between the two?

    • @clearskiesastro1028
      @clearskiesastro1028 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You typically take the flats with a light panel at the end of the scope, keeping the same optical train alignment as the subs that were taken of your astro target (dont rotate anything, like the camera or focuser, etc), the scope can be pointed anywhere, I usually point it straight up after my session. The dark flats (or flat darks it doesn't matter what you call them), those are usually taken right after the flats where you just take the panel off the end of scope, and then you put your scope end cap back on to make sure no light is entering from anywhere. I also sometimes cover my scope and/or camera with a jacket, or blanket if there are strong enough street lights, or neighbour lights which are hitting my setup. You really don't want any light leaks affecting the dark flats.

      Can you tell me if you are having any issues with the ASIAir on the current release V2.1.1 10-74 controlling your mount directions from the mount controls in Preview, Video or Focus. I find on my AVX mount that when slewing with the ASIAir controls when lifting my finger off the icon on my iPad the mount keeps slewing for another 5 seconds or so. It doesn't happen all the time but probably >50%. Seems to occur more on the DEC also. It feels like ASIAir App is overflowing a buffer on the iPad and when you lift your finger off the iPad keeps executing commands in the buffer. I installed the latest beta and its still present. I did write a bug report but ASI has it at a low priority. Thanks

      Thanks you. I think others on the ZWO forums are having this issue but didn't mention their brand of mount. As long as I don't use the fastest speeds I can manage or just use the hand controller. I've discovered with my C8 SCT at native focal length and my planetary camera, ASI585MC, I had problems plate solving especially when trying to perform the PA procedure. When installing my 6.3 focal reducer plate solving started to work. The other night I set the camera's BIN value from 1 to 2 and in native mode the plate solving in PA worked! I was able to go to different objects and they centered. However, when it comes to planets, like Jupiter, ASIAir gets close but never can center. It times out. I'm wondering if it is due to my exposure set too high. I've seen another youTuber use Jupiter for focusing on his ASIAir but he's not using a C8. I will have to try this before Jupiter is gone. Thanks

    Nice video but a few questions if you can please answer them. 1. After you rotated your image and shut down your asiair, the next time you start up your asiair does it remember the rotation. That is in sky atlas will it show the last known camera rotation? 2. If I want to make a plan again after I have restarted my asiair without doing anything else, what rotation will the plan use? 3. In fact if I never used the rotation feature, what rotation does the plan use in sky atlas? 4. If you set up a mosaic in preview mode, you can rotate the frame, but I can't see any way to get the mosaic loaded into a plan with the chosen rotations and in plan mode there is no rotation capability. Do you know how to do this. Thanks so much for any answers you can provide and a helpful video.

    • @clearskiesastro1028
      @clearskiesastro1028 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. The ASIAIR always shows you your current actual rotation based on plate solving. There's nothing to "save" or remember. If you physically rotate your camera using the rotation assist and never touch it after, then it will always have that same rotation. 2. Any plan or autorun will use the actual physical rotation that your camera is set to. This isn't something that rotates your image in software after the fact, it just helps you achieve the true physical rotation fo your camera with the help of plate solving which lets the ASIAIR know your exact actual rotation. 3. same as above, your camera's physical rotation that is set is the only rotation that can be used. The ASIAIR can't alter or change the rotation, it can only help you confirm your rotation when you physically manipulate the camera with your hands to achieve the desired roration. 4. You need to figure out the roration needed for mosaic, and set it up before running your mosaic plan.

    • @abulka
      @abulka 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You could startup the asiair, go into preview mode, hit sky atlas - what rotation would you see? No plate solving has yet occurred. Presumably the asiair does indeed remember the rotation from last time.

    @aliljenb ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for posting this - I though I was alone with this noise. It's sad that a mount of such high mechanical quality has such poor quality in the electronics. My guess is this is due to either bad internal power supply or bad AC de-coupling of the internal power lines or bad driver software. This could also be the reason many people (myself included) have USB connection issues. Either way, iOptron shouldn't state this is normal. I had a much cheaper SkyWatcher HEQ5 mount that was dead quiet, the CEM40 should be too. The CEM40 performs better, but its sound doesn't signal quality.

    Thank you so much for your ASIAIR videos, they’re fantastic. I don’t know if you can help with this, but let me give it a try. I’ve been trying to implement the mosaic on the new update. I’ve tried everything, I’m exhausted. I’m able to get the panes transferred into the plan mode but, typically I either get “select a target” (which I don’t understand since the target name is clearly listed in the box) or my imaging gets stuck on the same pane and not progressing to the second, third, etc. pane. I just did a firmware update…I know I’m missing something…..PLEASE if you’ve tried the mosaic mode, I would love for you to give me the precise sequence of how to get plan mode to work with the mosaic. Perhaps even break the process down to the most minute level. I’ve wasted three nights now, and I’ve tried every trial-and-error combo. Help!

      I'm hoping for clear skies tomorrow night so will try and record something for you. I did a quick 4 panel mosaic a few weeks ago just to test it out and it worked fine for me. There's nothing really special you need to do. Make sure you're in PLAN mode and then enter Sky Atlas and find your target. Setup how many panels you want and then just hit the icon in bottom right to add it to the Plan. Exit out that window and go into your Plan settings and you'll see all the panels there. Setup each one with how many exposures and exp times etc....and then just start it.

I have been using this setup for the last month with absolutely no problems. Last night I went out and setup to run but I could not get the Plate Solving to work. Is there some way to find out which update is running? (I don't remember if I ran the lastest update) There has been NO hardware changes, so I figure it's a software. Any ideas or solution?

    • @clearskiesastro1028
      @clearskiesastro1028 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree it’s likely a software issue or more likely a settings change post update. You can see which version you’re running in the app when connected to all your gear, or the easier way is just to check the app version on your phone through Apple Store or Google play. The app version always matches the device it logs into, so one can’t be different from the other. The following things will affect plate solving: - bad focus - not tracking (star trails) - noisy image (short exp and/or high gain) - dark image (short exp + narrowband filter) - wrong scope focal length - too small of a field of vue It’s been known to happen where an update will inadvertently change some of your existing settings so go over all of these with a fine tooth comb. I would recommend you also delete the ASIAIR app and re-install it.

    I never take dark flats. With the ASI294MC Pro I use, I only take darks and flats. Bias I also skip as the ASI294MC Pro is very inconsistent when using short exposure times (<1 sec). To circumvent that, I apply a calculated bias as explained on the website of Siril (I'll refrain from posting a link as the comment will probably get removed). With my ASI2600MM Pro, I don't even take darks anymore. I didn't see any noticeable difference, so I am just skipping those. With the 294 I obviously need them because of the amp-glow.

  • @dmintz88
    @dmintz88 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The rotating angle isn’t irrelevant it’s just relative to the current angle of your rotator, which the ASIAir doesn’t know, so it simply assumes you’re coming into it with the rotator set to 0°. If you do that, the angle it shows after you adjust the rotation on the ASIAir is the angle you need rotate to. But if you “park” your rig in a different rotation angle, such as 15°, then the angle of rotation on the ASIAir is the amount of degrees you need to adjust your current rotation by to match the framing you just set in the ASIAir app.

    • @clearskiesastro1028
      @clearskiesastro1028 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree but for 90% of people using the ASIAIR the value of the rotation angle will be meaningless and they will simply be wanting to match the FOV targets to get the framing they want. For those people wanting to know the amount of rotation then yes as you said your initial rotation value will simply be your reference value, and the final value you end up on will determine the total rotation amount (equal to the difference between the two values).

  • @BorealisLite
    @BorealisLite 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this, I was unsure of proper usage & yours is the first video I have found to specifically explain. One question, after the rotation is there a need to solve in preview to update the fov, since there is no new goto which would solve to center. Also, in image management rotation is now stored in info for each sub. I believe that when you goto from an older sub that you can now get rotation assist to match. Helpful in multi night work.

    • @jeddymo7052
      @jeddymo7052 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks everyone. A dumb mistake on my part and several iterations later. I think I have a process that gets the data loaded. Some observations: 1) I bring up the Telescopious website on my IPAD (rather than my PC), login, and after loading the target etc. in the mosaic mode, copy the CSV to the IPAD clipboard. Looks like I should NOT choose "entering the center coordinates" or "rotate panes...", although that appears to make sense. May experiment with this later. 2) Over to ASIAIR, I need to have all the equipment (camera and mount) connected and ready to go. Otherwise, the data import locks up and never loads. That includes my convoluted AVX Celestron process of connecting to ASIAIR. 3) In the IPAD ASIAIR app, tapping twice to paste/import the data is the obvious answer to my problem of loading data. I thought hitting "import" would just paste the data automatically. That solves the "incorrect format" problem. 4) Adding a plan appears to require a start time. So planning ahead, saving the plan, and executing later does not appear to be an option. Might be wrong here. 5) After importing the data, the first "Pane" shows up. I have to add as many sequences as there are panes. Then hitting the back button, the other panes show up. Hopefully now its ready to go, although I haven't tried it yet realtime. Maybe tonight!

    That's very helpful, but it means (doesn't it?) that you need to do your automated flat frames for each filter before doing the dark flats for the same filter. So you'd need to so (for example), flats for H-alpha, then do the dark flats, then do flats for S-ii, and then do those dark flats, etc etc?

Once finished with all his flats, he's left with darkflats in autorun for all three filters and runs those.
