Jack I agree with your comments except that , the Gracie's have always given credit to Mitsuo Maeda the Judoka who taught it to them . But the true credit goes to the Fusen Ryu school of Jiu Jitsu which is where the Kodokan learned it and were it not for academics and the Japanese penchant for record keeping that fact would have been lost to history . Also that at time Jiujitsu and Judo where understood to be the same thing ,and the words used interchangeably .
That is untrue . The Gracie's of course used that basics that they had learned from Mitsuo Maeda , however they not only modified a great deal of the techniques they created a new system of training by creating a set of rules for newaza and awarding points based on positional strategy . To say that BJJ is Just a watered down version of JJJ is to not understand Jiu Jitsu history .
its pretty cool how old guys are doing this
just goes to show how effective judo is
Wonderful to see a video of old school Judo.
Holy crap - this is Judo??? Sign me up immediately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man these are some serious chokes, hehe. Some interesting variations.
yup nothing new under the sun, just a cycle of things being forgotten and rediscovered
If you watch the other videos in this series, you'll see De La Riva guard in several places, as well as something like X-guard.
