I was in the 3rd grade when this happened and my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Black's husband was at the hotel, on duty when this happened.
I remember all of the sirens that seem to go on for hours that night; my parents glued to the tv, in tears
Mrs. Black was very quiet the next day and we read "independently" most of the day. A week later she apologized and told us she "didnt know if her husband was the officer who was shot."
I will never forget that week.

Will grow up without a family. I think this man who was trying to save people said he also found a blood-covered but alive child underneath the body of his mother who died trying to protect him or her. Allegedly this gunman believed in the "great replacement" theory so often pushed by Tucker Carlson on Fox News. Rupert Murdoch, Fox News, Trump voters, the "MAGA-GOP-NRA" Party ...destroying America. @@landor7610 I don't know where you live, but gun crimes are prosecuted a lot, and yes there are incarcerations. Don't know where you're getting such programming that suggests it doesn't. Why do you think there's such shock from non-right-wing talking points when some citizen or cop gets away with the murder of a citizen. It's because it breaks the expectation which happens to the typical gun violence perpetrator. In general cases, the ones that aren't prosecuted or incarcerated yet are only the ones who managed to avoid being caught.
And who said anything about preventing law abiding citizens from owning guns? They never said to take all the guns away. But you can definitely tell that in the more gun restrictive areas when there is a gun violence thing, it's almost always with a small handgun. Way less victims when it happens. Nuance in talking points. Don't believe the news that literally changes what other people are saying just to plaster a narrative to you. As Jon Stewart mocked of some talking heads at Fox, whenever they hear a talking point that might fit somewhere in the line of an ideology, let's immediately argue the point as if it means to suddenly take the ideology to the extreme. It's the best way to attack away any argument, no matter how good and originally nuanced it is, as long as it's coming from someone you deemed "the other side".

Texas seems like ground zero for so many shootings. Over 50 plus years ago on August 1, 1966. The University of Texas tower shooting was the deadliest mass shooting by a lone gunman in U.S. history, 25-year-old Marine veteran Charles Whitman, indiscriminately fired at members of the public both within the Main Building tower and from the tower's observation deck. He shot and killed 15 people, including an unborn child, and injured 31 others before he was killed by two Austin Police Department officers approximately 96 minutes after first opening fire from the observation deck.

I thought seeing the photo would make it more real to people and perhaps, naively so, that it would shock them into re-evaluating their thoughts and 'values'. I know it won't. I saw a photo of a family before the shooting where only 1 of the 4 survived. I sat there staring for a long time... I tried to think of something to say , to reply to this photo on Twitter...I kept sitting there, tears rolling down my face wondering how that one left alone would survive without their 3 family members. Two parents, two children. I don't know which one wasn't assassinated and likely never will. I'm not an American and I don't watch much news. I know tonight as I sit here at 3am that I won't sleep. My heart aches and I think tonight it broke completely. I wouldn't look at comments by these deranged politicians that made excuses or were going to pray.....There comes a time in everyone's life , often unprepared, when we break. This is how I feel tonight as my mind sees a loving family of 4...now is one. I cannot ever ever comprehend the pain nor can I do anything to try to comfort them. Then I saw a warning issued by a few countries about traveling to the US and to not go. Our neighbor and ally... Never would I have imagined anything like this barring a world war. To be afraid to go out, go to work, send a child to school not knowing if today it would be their school, to go shopping, to a movie .....I still cannot wrap my mind around this and maybe I never will. It’s The American Dream, Lawrence. That political, moral and cultural vacuum that for some strange, unfathomable reason seems to consider itself a beacon of hope and goodness for others to aspire to. That noise you’re hearing from outside your borders? Not awe but laughter.

That summed up America Lawrence. How tragic, stark and knowing mass murder will never cease in the country whose "experiment" is tested by every event that now defines the utter loss of connection to itself. Sweet acceptance of your death, but never knowing when it is your moment... as a target...Oh America, tears are not enough, and your thoughts and prayers, do less than tears.

Very Sad day when I was 10 in art class the teacher wheeled in the cart with a tv on it , a voice on the PA system said students the president of the United States has been shot and has passed away. The teacher turned on the tv and we saw the murder. There were sniffles in the class room and the teacher wiped her eyes dry. I was a teen when Martin and Bobby were also murdered.

Thank you for sharing. Talk about a vivid memory😢I was almost 4 when my mom burst into tears and yelled at the television when JFK was assassinated. I have never seen her as distraught as she was that day. She felt he was the nations best hope and it wasn't long before her hopes were dashed again with the murders of Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.. My mom never gave up on activism and politics...from community building to voting to social and environmental action...we vote blue on every ticket💙🇺🇸👵👵

Australia has had almost as many mass shootings in the last 27 years as they had in the first 90. You are being lied to. Would you like a list of the 13 mass shootings, 15 before, in Australia? Just to give you a taste, Monash University. Hectorville, 2011. Monash university. Modbury High school.

@@Johann-uc9sn omg go away. Oz is a completely different class to America. Guns a just not part of men's identity like in the states. Aussie men have sport and women(or men if they bat for the other team) to occupy their time and don't need guns to feel manly. Guns are just not interesting to most Australians. Those Australians that like to shoot them for sport can but it's just not an interest for most of us. It's just not.
Monash the offender was an international student 2 people died the offender is in mental health facility. Hectorville offender is also in a mental health facility - 3 died. Modbury High School "In 2012, a year 8 student at the school took a revolver to the school and fired bullets. No one was killed or injured. The student and his father were charged with possessing an unregistered, loaded firearm, possessing an unlicensed firearm and unsecured ammunition.[3]"

@Joann That must be why Australian schools don't have 'active shooter drills' and why in 40 years of teaching in a metropolitan secondary college I never once experienced the threat of an armed intruder in the school in which I taught. Don't know where you get your statistics from but I would suggest you look outside your normal conspiracy bubble next time. Even if your stats are correct they don't hold up. Australia's population is about one tenth that of the USA. The USA is having more than one mass shooting per day. If Australia were comparable it would be having about one every ten days. So far in 2023 I don't recall Australia having even one so far. Yes, Monash University mass shooting was 2 people in 2002. Yes, and the Hectorville siege in 2011 did happen. I think the last mass shooting was in 2020. But get your facts straight, Australia's gun problem is minor compared to that of the USA.
