Give me ten of those and a pot of tea and that would be my annual leave sorted very nicely, thank you very much. Wonderful collection as always, just mouth-watering. I need to read more (much more!) of the 87th Precinct series but I enjoyed "Cop Hater" with its Ulysses-reading 'tec and deaf girlfriend. There was a born storyteller at work right from the beginning.
I keep finding treasures on your channel Jules. I’ve just discovered this series of novels and am enjoying getting stuck in. Thanks for a fascinating summary.
Fantastic video! I have gone on and on about Ed Mcbain to my friends and family but they didn't seem to get the bug- I have about 100 of his books and am so glad to see your passion for this fabulous writer!
Great video, Jules. I love the US paperback original covers from those early 87th Precinct novels. It was McBain's 87th Precinct novels and Ernest Tidyman's Shaft books that got me into crime fiction in the mid-70s. I have all McBain's 87th novels and am currently going through a re-read (I've got about halfway through and at the moment I am reading 1973s "Let's Hear it for the Deaf Man").
Great stuff Steve, you're a few books ahead of me at present. It's great there are so many! I've a couple of Shaft books but never read them....one day!
A prolific author . A good follow up to the short you did . Always amuse when i find out that some of my faves wrote some ' sleeze ' ( Silverburg , Elison , Koontz ) among others . More amuse when some distance themselves 😊. Some cool covers , although that ' Axe ' cover is a bit much .lol Thanks for the video . Bye
Thanks Sylvan! There is no definitive proof that he wrote those sleeze books but McBain experts think he wrote some. He's a superb author though, whatever genre he turned his hand too.🙂👍
Excellent video. Been trying to collect the middle-period McBain content which I had stupidly given away - the Pan volumes with the gold banner. As you say they are difficult to find in good condition nowadays and especially with the spine lettering unfaded.

Absolutely, Cop Hater is a superb start to the series, I've read it three times! I shall indeed be taking a couple of holiday next month🙂

Thanks Paul, yes, it's well worth going back on some of my older videos, there's some gems to be seen. Still enjoy collecting Ed McBain 🙂

Excellent stuff, thanks Paul. I fear he may be slipping from the limelight after all these years👍
fascinant collection.-
Thanks Sergio!

Thanks very much. I'm still missing a couple of those Pan editions but they are definitely out there. Patience is key!
Not easy finding a nice copy of any of the earlier Perma books but especially Cop Hater. Been looking for a while
For sure Bob. I paid a bit for this one but it's worth it👍
Which of my McBain books are worth the most? My Aunt gave them to me. Some are 30 years old.
It depends what you have, hardback or paperback, UK or USA?
@@JulesBurt paperback all 87th precinct

Ok, are any 1st editions, what condition are they in?
